It's very hard for me to write down my feelings and emotions for this movie. To be terribly cliche, it made me laugh and it made me cry. This movie is very touching. It made me truly appreciate life more. Some people may not like the dark dark dark (emphasis on the dark) humor, but I found it refreshing. It also has the greatest soundtrack ever. Cat Stevens is a genius and the songs on this soundtrack are all beautiful. I can't listen to "Trouble" without getting a lump in my throat. If you haven't seen this movie yet, I definitely urge you to see it, because it's one of the purest, most heartfelt movies ever made.

I found out about this movie in the 50 greatest cult films issue of Entertainment Weekly. It sounded like a funny, semi-serious biography of Karen Carpenter, whose music I do happen to enjoy. When I finally watched it, I realized that the movie was a very serious and in depth look at anorexia. It's haunting, brilliant, moving, and touching. I had never seen the life of an anorexic person played out so well as by that barbie doll. It's a shame that this film has not been widely distributed, because it's a darn fine movie that is very educational.

Now, from the title of my review, you may go ahead and assume that I am in fact clinically insane. However, I assure you that I'm not and never have been. I enjoyed this film immensely. Some parts were quite difficult to watch, but I thought that the cinematography was beautiful and the score was magnificent. Yes, it is a very rough movie to watch and I suggest no children under the age of 13 or so should see it, but of course this is truly up to the adult who decides whether the child is mature enough to watch it and not do anything stupid. I, myself, saw this film when I was 14 years of age and I did not go and do anything stupid, but some children are more easily influenced. My point is that it's not a Disney family film. It's art. Take it for what it is. And what it is... is great.
