I was expecting to get a French movie, with Bérénice Bejo as the lead character. Instead...I've got a movie in Spanish, Chilean, if I would like to be more accurate. Also, the leading actresses were two young woman and child actresses: Sara Becker and Alondra Valenzuela.
It seems, from the first gaze on this movie's poster, that we are going to get a version of "Cinema Paradiso" or every other movie for movies lovers. We are getting exactly what we've expected, but somewhere along the way, something is getting lost on the way to real greatness.
It is a movie about a child and her family, that are all cinema lovers, back in the sixties, on a far away and remote mining small and pretty neglected town. The family depends the main providers and lives by his abilities to care and provide, while the mother raises and takes care for all other necessities.
This movie speaks about losing the childhood innocence, about an actual love for the experience of movies on the biggest screen around and also about the change in movies consumption. It is also dealing with family crisis and an actual adorable way to deal with each and every crisis, off course, with an enormous love to movies.
Somewhere along the way I've lost attention to the details of the movie. It started to repeat itself and didn't answer several questions that were raised along the way. It just stayed adorable, loving and admiring for one of my biggest desire - cinema. Sometimes...this is all you need from a movie to succeed.

Yeah...it's 2025 and I've never watched this movie...until now. It came after watching the local theatre musical version of it and decided that now is the proper time to watch the movie also. 31 years after debuting on cinemas around the world, I've caught up with this movie also.
It's a story about the will to blend in a genuine way in the society, about the will to have full and satisfying life and above all it is about wearing women's clothes without the fear of being judged or beaten. It is about improbable friendship between three different types of personalities.
Each and every character has such a strong personality and performance on this movie, that it became a cult with the runtime of years. Still, after a little bit over thirty years, it is getting versions on top of versions, homages and other references.
Nowadays world and reality contain much more. This movie, that was considered groundbreaking, is now an old document, which shows that change can be achieved with time. It's not always brilliant or coherent, but the main plot and adventures get the job done.
All three actors get their A-game on an unforgettable performances and nail it each and every time. Three lost souls on a journey to find salvation - each of the characters in his path and quest to find the missing thing that will bring happiness.
But as they search for whatever will re-define them Why not enjoy wearing exaugurated outfits and dance their way into self-definition. For that mission all three have exactly what it needs to light up the day and color it in a lot of colors - mainly pink.
It wasn't always my cup of tea, the story was sometimes divided into several short sections or segments that not always felt related, but it is definitely understood what are the reasons for this movie to become as epic as it became through the years.

I am not a great fan of plot spilling in reviews, so I will try to approach this film round and round. It has so much more; other than the plot itself and one of this movie's main occurrences revolves around the fact that there is a word and a situation that no one wants to describe or call by name.
First of all, I have just adored the fact that this movie is playing with his timeline. I've like it since I first encountered it at Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" and from that day, I have a soft spot for those kind of movies, that makes us assemble the plot and it's details, according to stages from different times.
Second - this movie has some fine small scenes and conversations that doesn't feel related to the plot, but together those situations, scenes and sequences make this movie to be what it is. Small encounters and conversations that makes this movie to be so unique - sad, funny and dramatic - exactly like its main character.
It is directed and scripted by the main character and actress (Eva Victor), that I've personally never heard or watched in other movies. The other actors and actresses, that hovers above and aside are so good and contributes to shape and mold her character's...character and nature.
The puzzle that the viewer needs to assemble is composed out of several chapters, that have hinted headlines. The directing and screenwriting of several situations is just brilliant. Leaves you wonder about a situation that you can guess what it is according to details that were put on the sides of the way to the scene.
And like in each one of "Harry Potter" books and films - there is one word in this movie that is not allowed to tell or say. It can be vaguely described or hinted, but if someone will spill it out, it will make the main character confront with her emotions and feelings.
Thus, and after all being said, we understand that our protagonist should find other ways to deal with what she's been through. Sometimes it is through laughter or sarcasm and sometimes...through speaking with characters that cannot judge or understand.
Anyway...this movie has a lot of charm in it. Great acting skills and surprisingly also great writing and directing skills by a young, promising young woman, which demonstrates control over each and every one of the described skills. It deserves 7.5 stars, from my side.
