I just finished this whole series on Netflix. Could not stop watching it! I loved the love story! The lead actors are reminiscent of Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh - even look like them - and have as much, if not more, charsima and presence. Totally addictive - highly recommended! Melodrama yes - but extremely high quality melodrama!
Disgusting disgusting disgusting. What is the rationale here? That Canada does not have enough dark, grim drama and stories? (hello Alice Munro hello Margaret Atwood) So we just have to take one of our enduring positive images and mess with it? Oh how I hate this show. Anne looks like Gollum - weird eyes, lifeless skin, almost balding. In this rendition Anne is not brave, she's just explosively angry and slightly psycho in a dark, scary way. Also, the palette of the show is washed out - why? To make sure the show is taken seriously? I have to avert my eyes. Shame on you Moira Walley-Beckett - whoever you are- you shall live in infamy. Please ... stay away from Huckleberry Finn.
This is one addictive show! It grabs you from the start, thanks in particular to the charismatic leads, Amaia Salamanca, who plays Alicia and Yon González, who plays Julio. The other actors are also compelling and excellent; the location, a beautiful old Spanish estate on the water, is glorious; the costumes are a delight; the scenes of old Spanish towns, with cobblestone streets and lanes lighted by torches, are wonderfully atmospheric! The plot swings from some truly touching moments to flights of operatic grandeur but it is the love story of Julio and Alicia that keeps the whole thing grounded and keeps you glued to the screen. Awesome!
Watched this on Netflix and am waiting breathlessly for them to add Season 3 so I can see the resolution of the plot!
