Putting aside all Stargate concept, let me write something about this series. It's to put it simple, heavily unbalanced. On one side we have excellent cast (and some consistently incredible performances) and really detailed SFX and other technical aspects. On the other hand, writing is complete nonsense at times (for example, Destiny leaves the galaxy, runs in intergalactic - totally empty, as pointed out in a conversation - space and suddenly stops for a planet or runs into pulsars). Not to mention classic "sound in space", Star Trek transporters - first yes then no - and other "plot technology" and a lot of pseudo-scientific (actually impossible) garbage. And a lot left unexplained (characters, events and so on). Someone - writers and producers - really screwed up here and it's really annoying. No Sci, just Fi The series jumpy quickly from Hard core SF to Mexican soap opera and back, and several times within the same episode, for that matter. It also seems that it was more important to keep the episode length on a stop-watch than what is happening, which explains abrupt cuts. Yes, it is a visual and some acting skills feast , but come on. If this series was only about exploring the ship, step by step, with no "Alliances" and other filler BS, it would have a predictable overall number of episodes (say 3 seasons x 20) and finish neatly rounded and coherent. It would make sense. As is, it does not. 6 stars for actors and technical team (they deserve 11, actually). Oh, yes, of course, everyone there is American (other parts of the Earth simply do not exist), regardless of the nationality and race, although some aliens dare not to speak English. Strange. They should, the whole Universe does, no? (yes, this is sarcasm). Anyway, they cancelled it. No harm done.
The ingredients are simple: lure some stars with synopsis to a project, but then put all of it in hands of bad writing, amateur direction, tons of nonsense and awful sfx, plot holes large as the local group of galaxies, drunk editing, absence of any coherence and attempts of acting (actually, what acting? True, some of the participants in this gave it a try but, alas, to no avail). Did you know that you can perform a large shootout (no one reloads even once) with a lot of explosions and noise in a relatively small town (they call it village), allegedly in Poland ("enemies" speak Russian, of course, and die like in John Wick, by dozens, being incompetent like kindergarten children), and no inhabitants even come to the window to see what happens? There's nobody anywhere near but "our heroes". The cherry on top of this mess is a strong hint on possible sequel, since this abruptly ends. God forbid! There are A movies, B movies, even C movies. At the bottom there are BS movies. This is a fine example. Two stars for skill of engaging Sly and Scott Eastwood. Were they blackmailed to participate? Nothing else could explain it. Run from this before it's too late.
... and not particularly funny. This movie looks like a construct, obviously artificial, borrowing elements from almost every other Marvel movie so far, aiming only at putting Wolverine and Deadpool in the same picture and justifying it thereof. And the jokes are weak at best (for me, that is). The whole thing consists of action scenes and swearing. Ocean of VFX (visually fine, but what's the point if there's no coherent plot?). On the other hand, acting was relatively good here and there, considering the aforementioned. It's one of those movies where visual effects try to compensate for the lack of anything else worth watching. 5 stars for the VFX crew, nothing for the rest. It is sadly shallow and superficial. Avoiding this movie gains you two hours of possibly quality time spent on something (anything) else.
