If you titled a series with "Jackal" then you also have to provide a little determination and quality. This is the case here for the first 20 minutes, but then (as is so often the case) it goes steeply.
The budget was definitely there. Stage design is good. Camera work is okay, without too much artificial shaking, but a lot of blur.
But the script is bad, often just stupid.
A "Jackal" is simply not to be seen here, they should have called it "The Day of the Auto-Bomber".
To the actors: Eddie Redmayne delivers a useful job, but Lashana Lynch was pretty much the greatest miscast I saw this year.
Is not worth switching on.

The movie has 5 short stories by different directors.
I'm not a huge fan of the VHS franchise and genuinely hated the first two parts. I was about to switch off (rate 1/10). Beyond my grasp why "Flying Lotus" is still allowed to direct horror films.
Now, 3rd and 4th were a little entertaining, so i kept watching.
And with the 5th part, the viewer is greatly rewarded. "To Hell and Back" is amazing (rate 8/10). Joseph and Vanessa Winter are incredible new indie horror directors. I can also recommend "Deadstream" and will be on the lookout for more movies from these two.
My 4/10 rating is a summery for all parts.

A hidden gem! If you are a film maniac or work in the movie industry, you have to see this one. They created the perfect sci-fi/horror B-movie.
Production and entertainment value at it best, considering the low budget (6M). A very good casting job including Brad Dourif (steals the show), William Hootkins, Richard Brake etc. btw did you spot the young Rachel Weisz? A good mix of humor, one-liners, non-stop homages and hidden details makes it fun to re-watch, but you will need a little movie knowledge.
Make sure to see the full version (128min).
