"Oh, please release me, let me go
For I just don't love you anymore
To waste our lives would be a sin
Release me and let me love again."
Songwriters: CARLA MARIA WILLIAMS, JONATHAN COFFER
Of course, the movie is a tad different than the book, as usual. A lot of the subtleties and observations have been removed for brevity. Not too much and has been moved around for the film, and the ending has the same results, just more implications than speeches.
They chose the best actors for the parts, Walter Huston, Ruth Chatterton, and Mary Astor, to name a few.
An auto manufacturer, Sam Dodsworth, still interested in the industry, is convinced by his wife to take a "Long" European vacation. Their idea of a vacation seems to vary as he is still interested in the industry, and his wife, Fran Dodsworth (Ruth Chatterton) interested in staying youthful and flirting. Sam overlooks Fran's intercessions in the name of love. Eventually, due to circumstances, he has time to spend with divorced Edith Courtright (Mary Astor) and sees what a real woman can be like. He sees his bitchy, unscrupulous, pretentious wife for the first time and must decide if he will be a victim of habit or otherwise.
Watch the movie, kibitz, and make your choice.

(1985) or (1993) depending on your copy.
I came to this film through an introduction by another film called "In the Mirror of Maya Deren" (2004). Although this previous film was well-balanced, it still contained quite a bit of information on the film you are about to purchase.
This film, "Divine Horsemen - The Living Gods of Haiti," is a snippet collage from 20,000 feet of film of Voodoo (or Voudoun) ceremonies, taken over a long period of time in Haiti. The title comes from the book of the same name. The narrative of this film is adapted from that 1953 book.
Depending on how you look at this film, it could be either too long or too short. However, there is enough information in it to make it an almost how-to documentary.
In any event, you do not want to miss this documentary, as it gives you a feel of what Maya Deren may have experienced.

This is the third of six Inner Sanctum films of the Universal Inner Sanctum series. Titled "Dead Man's Eyes" (1944).
I was thinking of a psychological thriller like "The Hands of Orlac" 1960. A pianist who loses his hands in a plane crash receives the transplanted hands of an executed criminal. Only this time it looks like the victim is going to be stared to death.
Turns out that the movie is a straightforward who-dun-it; Dave mistakenly puts acid in his eyes. His fiancée's father offers to donate upon his death. You guessed it.
The blind man, Dave Stuart (Lon Chaney), must ferret out the murderer before he is dispatched for the deed. Everyone knows he is just the type to do anything to get his eyes back.
There are also several love triangles to complicate the search.
