David Kyle Johnson presents this in several episodes. Sadly, "The Great Courses" is leaving the DVD market. I have several shelves of "The Great Courses," but I watched this one from the local library on Hoopla.
The program follows the title. Each episode features different sci-fi movies and connects them to the philosophy they explore. During the lecture, you're encouraged to watch the film beforehand, which is a great idea. I have over fifty years of viewing experience. Still, if possible, it's a good idea for newcomers to watch the movie again before the discussion.
Many times, David Kyle Johnson hits the mark and offers ideas for further reflection. Sometimes he is so black and white that he overlooks other possibilities.
Additionally, numerous philosophers' names are mentioned. I have read most of them, but I get surprised by others. Looks like time to fill in the background.
You cannot cover an immense number of movies in a finite lecture. But I missed "World on a Wire".
The bottom line is that you will now have to see all those movies again in a new way.

It just won't do to buy this series in pieces. You have seen them all a million times, or you would not be reading this. And this is John Cleese at his best. Yes, he has made some unforgettable movies, but it is also the crew of Fawlty Towers that you watch this for. Everyone has a favorite episode, and mine is "Basil the Rat". I would go into detail, yet just in case you missed one, I'd rather it be a surprise.
The basic situation is that there is a small hotel called "Fawlty Towers" after the proprietors, Mr. & Mrs. Fawlty. We get a mixture of cerebral and slapstick humor as Basil tries to promote the hotel, and many times his schemes backfire. Of course, this would not be so funny without all the supporting characters helping snowball small situations into something ridiculously absurd.
A series worth watching over and over again.

This is a pretty good production for Michael Moore. Some of the presentations may feel like he has gone off the deep end. However, he mentions some good points and fills in some information that many people may have missed.
I am not a Michael Moore fan and possibly a verge on fascist. But you cannot afford to miss this presentation, as here and there, now and then, he mentions some things that you would not have seen. Of course, you have to weigh everything that you see with the fact that you know Michael Moore is trying to put forth a unified theory while using media soundbites.
One trap that Michael Moore fell into with this production. The United States is a Republic. It may be a Democratic Republic, but it is a Republic. Even in the Roman Republic, not everyone was a citizen.
A lot of his focus takes aim at the Republic and wishes we had instead "mob rule" ... Oops, a pure democracy. Whether democracy is an advantage or disadvantage, the organization of this Republic is not the thrust of the movie, yet it can easily distract from what Michael Moore is trying to present.
I can give more specifics on the contents of this movie, but I do not wish to sway someone with my opinion before they even get a chance to watch it.
