I am told by a friend that the French/Belgian series on which this is based is a superior watch. However, as I have yet to see that original I cannot compare, and can only judge Patience on it's own merits. So, I enjoyed it. It was a little different from the run of the mill detective series, and the better for it in my humble opinion. I thought the two leads were very good indeed, and were backed by a decent supporting cast. I thought that Patience's autism was handled with sensitivity although one or two elements of her condition seemed to be magically resolved by single incidents. That didn't, for me, take anything away from my overall enjoyment. I'll watch Astrid soon so I can make the comparison.
So very, very predictable. You just knew that Schofield would blame anybody but himself for the situation he has found himself in. This is nothing but self-serving rubbish from start to finish. I can't imagine what convinced a TV executive that this was worthwhile programming. If you are a huge fan, no doubt you will find this riveting viewing, but to anyone with at least half a brain cell it is no more than a puff piece designed to justify Schofield trying to get back into showbiz. He talks about being thrown under the bus when, in fact, it was his lies and deceit that have caused all his problems. Save yourself the trouble and don't bother. You're welcome.
Quite possibly the worst 'drama' I've ever seen. There are so many things going on that simply wouldn't happen in reality it makes a mockery of genuine drama. I've read that by the end we're supposed to empathise with 'Sian', (I'm writing after 3 episodes) but I can't think of any character I've ever disliked more. Whatever her backstory, there is no excuse for her actions. Whilst Lee Ingleby and Claire Goose are good actors who can usually be relied on to turn in an accomplished, believable performance, here they are hampered by a myriad plot holes and very clunky dialogue. Jill Halfpenny basically plays Jill Halfpenny, as she has done in anything I've seen her in. All told, very disappointing. (2 stars for the location).
