I pretty much steer clear of Hallmark these days. Most of it is highly obnoxious. But for reasons unknown I gave this one a shot. And it wasn't bad. It wasn't great but it managed to be cute enough reminiscent of some of the cute but not so great old Hallmark fare.
Andrew Walker did well of a bit awkward at first playing a 38 year old man who kinda acted like a 22 year old kid. But he got better enough as it went along. The actress who played Prudence had to grow on me but when she did in liked her well enough.
The story was simplistic and predictable but that's not always a problem. The villains were cartoonish and unnecessary. A conflict not needed since the others could've been filled out.
I won't call it a must see but I wouldn't warn anyone off either. Take it or leave it. Hallmark has much worse to offer these days.

...is the imbalanced audio. Seriously, who did the sound for this film and soundtrack. It doesn't matter if it's the move or the album, you cannot listen to this at a normal level. You'll always have to turn it up for the quiet parts and down for the louder parts. This isn't normal. I watch plenty of shows and movies where you can set a level and just enjoy it even if it's softer or louder without such variation.
Okay, complaint aside, I like this movie. I wish we didn't live in a time where Hollywood agendas added annoying context to certain story points, but even aside from that, it's still a great film. No it's not historically accurate but very few films are. There's the difference between "based on actual events" and "inspired by actual events" and even still they'll take many, many artistic liberties with the truth. But even still this was an enjoyable film. And despite the sound level issues, the music is really powerful too.
Hugh Jackman proves once again he's got an incredible range in talent. Not many actors can cross genres as well as he can, especially when it comes to musicals. But he does it with incredible style.
The rest of the cast does very well too. Zendaya was wonderful, it was great to see Zac Efron back in the musical scene, and the girl from Dawson's Creek (I'm sorry I don't recall her name), I hardly recognized her but she did amazing too.
