There's thousands of them out there, the Kevin Smith disciples that swear he is the comic genius that Hollywood (or just film in general) need. Well I don't have an alternate answer for you, but if Smith's the future, then we have a serious problem. I've seen Clerks to Dogma and there have been plenty of funny scenes, and interesting ideas, but unfortunately nothing very new. Since the cult scene is becoming more and more popular, I understand why these movies have reached their level of acclaim. I'm not here to burst anyone's bubble about the Smith series, but after I saw this one I just had to comment. I mean it's really just not that good, but maybe I've seen too many good comedies prior to this one. Overall, if your mouth hurts after watching this movie then it's probably because everyone has convinced you that this movie is hilarious and you feel obligated to cough up some humor. Sure this movie is a big hit, but then again, so is Full House.
Yeah, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Deer Hunter, etc. It's Robert De Niro, and everyone knows he the best. I just saw this movie, walked in a the door a few minutes ago, and I'm surprised to see that most of the reviews on this movie are not so favorable. I was actually very satisfied. The acting held together well, protagonists were demented (but kept the movie going), and the movie wasn't really asking for anything outrageous. Sure sure, it's not Taxi Driver, but that's not what I went in looking for. Ed Burns and De Niro really make this movie work and Kelsey Grammar plays a great jerk-off. I enjoyed it, definitely worth my time (especially with movies like See Spot Run as an alternative). I'd say go see it, it's a good movie to have on the mind these days, and thanks Bobby, you never let me down.
I saw this on Showtime (or something of the sort) a while back, and it was surprisingly some real funny stuff. The story flowed well, the acting was good, and the comedy fit right in with the characters and timing. Assuming that Clerks is one of the best comedies ever (A ridiculously ludicrous assumption), this movie could be called the best since then. I don't think of it like that though, it stands well by its own, and is one of those evening movies that can keep you in the house when you really want to go out. Of course Keri Russell attracts many to this movie (justifiably so), but that doesn't prove to be a problem since a fan and a critic would both love the performance. It's a comedy for now, so see it soon, because now is always changing.
