I do agree with what most negative reviews here point out, but i was so immersed in the exploration of the house that all the weak points didn't bothered me. Except that inwas rooting for Ben to get killed as soon as possible as that character makes no sense. As for the girl calling "Ben" all the time , i would do the same in her situation and to me that was not exactly bad writing but an attempt to not have "movie" dialogue in the film and make it more real.
The beginning of the movie was not that appealing, all that found footage style filming didn't felt natural to me and took me out of the story in a bunch of moments.
But...
The moment they dive in the lake and find the sunken house, i loved it. Theres even a great jump-scare in there and i loved the fact they kept those to a minimum when i was expecting it to be over used all the time.
All the underwater scenes where they explore the house are excellent, the sets are perfect and if they filmed this in a pool with an actual built set in there , congratulations. It worked. The last time ive seen such a good haunted house set was in the classic and scary The Changelling from 1980 with George C Scott ( best haunted house movie ever ). But this sunken haunted house is super well done and its the reason the movie works so well when it comes to setting a classic haunted house vibe.
The rest of the plot is not that great, but it really does not need to be, to be effective. The ghosts are decent enough and work well most of the time with a couple of good scary moments.
The story is good for what the movie needs. Although I dont know whats up, with these found footage movies but once again, I always get the sense these found footage filmakers always have good concepts but no idea of how to finish their stories.
But overall i really enjoyed this movie. Its well made, its got a great haunted house atmosphere, a great jump scare and some really good visual sequences. The only thing it almost ruins it is the main character Ben, which simply makes no sense as nobody in that situation would act as he does.
I bought the movie on blu-ray just based on the concept and its a good title to add to my haunted house movies collection.
Recommended if you like haunted house movies and want to see a genuine good attempt to create something unique.
Low budget, but well made and with excellent diving sequences.

I've noticed many evangelical Christian's here are on fire accusing of this story to be anti-Christian. This story is e dry fundamental Christian wet dream as secretly or not so much , many would love to live in this future where "the word of god" was as "respected" as in this cautionary tale, Well movies and stories like this are important as they will help preventing futures like this when in fiction they depict the horrors of what a fundamentalist religious state can really be like. The story this book and movie tell is already a reality in some cultures and hopefully because of movies, books and tv series like this, will never happen in the west.
Although taking into consideration how the woke religion is infesting modern culture with their own fundamentalist beliefs I wouldn't be surprised to find a totalitarian regime like this to arrive in the near future. Particularly in the United States where bibble thumpers are a thing apart which would love to see a bibble ruled state , more than religion already rules that country.
As a book adaptation this movie does a good job , although I still think the recent tv series has perfected the whole horror of the concept.
Nevertheless this is still a great movie based on one of the best and most important novels ever written on par with 1984 when it comes to totalitarian regimes go. The handmaids tale is to American Christianity as 1984 is to modern woke lunacy.
So overall, an important movie, with great acting , well directed witch stands high in the sci-fi genre and it's even more relevant today than when it was made.

We need more movies like this that use humour to mirror the insanity of our woke reality.
Bill is perfect, the dialogues are spot on and the jokes are really on point. This is like a new " Idiocracy " for the woke era.
Fun characters, insane situations because they are based on reality and overall a fun movie. Not only the humor is perfect but its one of those scripts that hopefully will make people think while they are laughing.
Its not the best comedy in the world but i give it maximum note because in this day and age its a brave effort to criticize the indanity of current days and the best comedy is always the one that mirrors reality.
