Note de Raven-39
I wish I could give it a negative rating. I forced myself to watch the whole thing. I kept waiting for it to improve. It didn't. It was depressing, both in tone and visually. I had to keep turning up the brightness on my phone just to have a clue to what had been filmed. After I pushed myself through it, I had to watch the 1992 version to cleanse my palate. I will also search my bookshelves for the book and really get back into the story. Agatha Christie was a genius. I've read all of her books. If this had been my first introduction to Poirot, I would never had read any more.
If you go to this movie intending to have FUN, you will not be disappointed. Silly, campy, noisy, you can laugh and scream and jump and have a good time.
If you are going for the eye candy, Jackman delivers. Wait for it, the view improves as the movie progresses. And Jackman isn't the only pretty face in the film.
If you are a fan of old Grade B horror films, they've brought in almost all of your old friends. Only one is distinctly missing and I couldn't figure out how to bring him into the story either.
Having only every seen David Wenham as the noble Faramir in Lord of the Rings, I was totally unprepared for him in this role. What a versatile actor. As Carl he is just adorable.
Now, if you are an unhappy or frustrated critic, this is the movie to go to as you can see by some of the other viewer's comments. Apparently, there are all sorts of things to pick apart and run down in the movie. You'll have a blast making your own list.
I recommend that you go to have fun, it is a kick! I would see it again and I'll happily go to the sequel or prequel.
