Note de MrSpoons
An excellent film featuring a slightly manic and wonderful performance by Anne Heche, leading a stellar indie cast. Insight into relationships between friends and couples. Funny and heartwarming.
From the network that brought us "The Larry Sanders Show" and "Sex and the City" - another example of classy, well-written television, designed for grown-ups. James Gandolfini, Lorraine Bracco and Edie Falco head a stellar cast that includes the legendary actress Nancy Marchand, winner of four Emmy Awards for her work in "Lou Grant." Marchand is brilliant as Tony Soprano's mother. If Emmy voters can get past the 'adult' nature of "The Sopranos," she should receive another nomination for 1999.
"David and Lisa," is one of those rare productions that remind us how good television can be. Portrayals of people with mental illnesses are always difficult. That there was room for reality and subtlety is a tribute to the creators and performers. Brittany Murphy's performance as Lisa will be on my mind for a long time. I can only hope that it will bring her more and more important roles, along with her first Emmy nomination. Thanks to Oprah for bringing this wonderful story to a new generation.
