I must admit that this is one of the few Lou Costello films that I actually saw in the theater. Most have now been seen on T.V. and I must admit that Lou is really enjoyable and he gets the girl, too. This was my first time seeing Dorothy Provine perform and of course I fell in love with her like so many others that day. I have seen most of the work she has done and enjoyed each one. Her performance in The Great Race is one of the reasons I bought the disc in the first place!
Every comment on this movie tells that this is the one movie that Lou Costello did with out Bud Abbott, which is true, but if Lou had lived he would have made many more. He really does a good job and doesn't have to rely on his old routines to get laughs. I for one am sorry that the little man from Patterson,N.J. didn't get the chance to do that.
I hope this comes out on DVD some time so I can add it to my comedy/sci fi collection.

This was a pleasant accident one Saturday afternoon. I had time shifted a program from earlier in the day and found this following it. It was really the better of the two! A very good family program with a good to excellent cast. So good that I watched it again right after the first! It's good to see seniors not acting in the mold we put them in so often. My only gripe is with the TV channel that put the promo for the next show with the credits and kept me from being able to read them. If it is released on DVD,I'll get it and the full credits, too.
It really is worth watching because of all the different characters in it.You can get something from each one. I've seen it 6/7 times and have not tired of it yet. It touches home with me because I was in the military at that time and know of the problems of the returning vet. If you weren't there, maybe this will help you to understand the ones that were.I'm still looking for that perfect woman that Ed Harris talks about. Watch it with your favorite girl and maybe you will find out that you have found her. Who says that Kathy Baker is not beautiful? Her inner beauty just glows here along with a girl next door kind of looks.I still say that De Nero is the best and this only shows it more. I'm only sorry that this is not yet available in my region in DVD and don't really know why. Those of you in regions that have it in DVD are lucky.
