The premise for this - surviving a plane crash alone in the wilderness with no skills or training, was sound, and appealed to me enough to watch.
Unfortunately the lead is written in such a way as to make you root for the wilderness.
She's obnoxious, foul mouthed and self absorbed. It would have been much more interesting and emotionally engaging if she had been the opposite, so that the audience was encouraged to care for the character. Instead you end up willing her to stay lost, because she's just another in a long line of dislikable people clogging up the planet.
The flashbacks to her past were interesting, but over used, and you do feel sorry for her when she was a child. It would have been so easy to build on that to create a strong, humble and inspiring adult who you could form an attachment to, but who still found room to grow from her wilderness experience.

I have to feel really strongly about something - good or bad, to write a review. I'm only writing this to suggest anyone who hasn't see this yet who really loved everything about TNG or any of the 'vintage' series, to seriously consider not viewing it. Keep your memories safe, and let your own imagination decide the fate of Picard in history.
The show is not Star Trek. It doesn't even feel as if the writers even bothered to watch any of the original series, or take time to understand what it was that made Star Trek unique.
It moves at a glacial pace and it's been incredibly boring. I switched it off half way through the latest episode, I was so bored. I'm not a big Marvel/Blockbuster movie fan, so it's not a case I can't appreciate an understated or thought provoking show, but I do need to see SOMETHING happen from time to time. Talk, talk, talk and then more talk, between not very likeable characters and there is virtually no storyline. Maybe that's why its all talk and big pretty set pieces.
All those wonderful characters from the original series are AWOL. 7 now speaks with an American accent. This is just a pay day to Stewart because he has virtually nothing to do.
Amazingly it's green lit for season 2. People may stick with season one because of the time they invested in it, but each episode is slower than the last and I'll not be bothering with the rest of the series. There will be a big viewer drop off for season 2.

If you like foliage, shaky cameras, blurry dark scenes, screaming 20-somethings that you're willing to die from outset, and a plot where virtually nothing happens, then this film is for you.
This apparently cost five million to make. If I'd financed this I'd be chasing those responsible through woodland for real. And not to congratulate them. If I'd been involved I'd have wanted my name taking off it. I can't believe Adam Wingard, such a promising director, blew his shot at a bigger career with this. All the material for a great horror film is there in the Blair Witch lore, but isn't utilised well at all here.
Total, absolute, garbage. Book Of Shadows was better, and that's one of the worst movies of all time.
I can't ever see them being able to do anything else with this franchise after this mess.
