A movie about journalists and the relationship between there lives and their work?
A movie about a violent schism in the American public?
Check out Haskell Wexler's "Medium Cool" from the Golden Age of American filmmaking. It was famous then.
And it took place in an actual domestic battle scenario.. But there weren't any automatic weapons fired.
I do have to give it to Civil War, if you like military action films, you'll prefer it. If you like some sort of meaning in the spectacle, not so much.
I understand a lot of people liked it though. Found it meaningful and stuff. I tried, but couldn't.

I thought the first Pacific Rim movie was dumb, but this one takes that dumbness and lobotomizes it. From the very beginning concept that you can't just blow the Kaiju up, you have to beat them up like in an MMA match, to the realization that they are absorbing the Jaegers' blows and reflecting the energy back, to finally defeating the Kaiju by beating them up like in an MMA match. Or the concept that the pilots are actually going through what the Jaegers are going through; when the Jaeger gets kicked in the face, the pilots get kicked in the face? When the Jaegers shoot out rays from their fingers, the pilots have to shoot rays from their fingers? Let alone the other basic concept that it takes the two pilots doing synchronized choreography, to "carry the mental load" of controlling the Jaeger? I understand how that leads to all the interpersonal drama in the flick, but at the cost of really stupid concepts.
I liked Transformers movies a lot more than this movie or the last one; and I still don't like Transformers movies very much, but at least they don't make me wrinkle up my face from their stupidity.
