The rewatch of the former DC cinematic universe lands me on what is probably the highlight of the whole run, Patty Jenkins' 2017 film "Wonder Woman". Even with the 2025 'we've all turned on Gal Godot' eyes, it still holds up.

Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crashes on Themyscira, hidden island home of the Amazons. He informs them about the great war that is raging beyond their walls. Diana (Gal Godot) is convinced that Ares, the god of war, must be behind the war and so leaves the island, with Trevor to defeat him. Seeing the horrors of modern warfare has an effect on both Diana and Steve, from cowardly generals sending men to the deaths from hundred of miles away, to the ineffectiveness of trench warfare.

Even though right at the end it devolves a little bit into a CGI battle, for the most part the film looks great and is a solid combination of origin story mixed with a first adventure. We have, at this stage, already seen Diana in "Batman v Superman" so know a bit about her, but here we see her as a child in Themyscira, growing up and challenging her mother before an adventure as an 'innocent abroad' in the rest of the film.

I know this sounds like damning with faint praise, but this is Gal Godot's best performance. She makes Diana a likable and fun character, though plays the emotions of disappointment and anger when she believes that Trevor and his 'not the howling commandos' aren't going to do what she believes if the obvious right thing to do. Her chemistry with Chris Pine is strong and the film also has good performances from David Thewlis and Danny Houston. I will say that I enjoy the reveals that the film has about some of the characters towards then end, that is a well-played element.

It's all downhill from here in every sense for the DCU. Even Jenkins couldn't come close to matching herself with the muddled sequel, but for now, this remains the best film (perhaps even the only good one) to come out of this version of the studio.

I've reviewed each season of "Fresh Meat" and you can find those thoughts against the final episode of each run, if you're so inclined - but now I've finished the rewatch I thought I'd put something here to sum up my overall feelings about the show. I watched "Fresh Meat" as it aired and enjoyed it. I decided on a rewatch as it appeared on a Guardian's best of TV list a few years back, and it has been nearly ten years since it finished so perhaps it was due.

Six students, Kingsley (Joe Thomas), Josie (Kimberly Nixon), Vod (Zawe Ashton), Oregon (Charlotte Ritchie), JP (Jack Whitehall) and Howard (Greg McHugh) find themselves lodged together in an off-campus house in their first year of university. Though quite different people, they find themselves bonded together in and against all aspects of the experience.

In my recollection, Josie and Kingsley took a lot longer to get together, VOD was much more exploitative of Oregon, Oregon's relationship with her tutor took much longer to get too and they all hated JP for much longer. Instead, all that happens in this run. Along with the protest trips to London, Kingsley's diversion to Drama and JP's father's funeral. We're quite soon after the end of Armstrong and Bain's "Peep Show" but I wasn't aware just how much Robert Webb was in the series; I remember him being in it but he's credited as the seventh lead! There are also recurring roles for Gemma Chan and for Jack Fox in this first run.

It's Armstrong and Bain writing so, as you might imagine it's quite funny. It's not a university experience particularly in keeping with mine, there's not quite so many nights in playing "F-Zero X" on the N64 - but it's at least recognisable, messy kitchens, bad food, bottles of lager around the house.

Because there were three years between the third and fourth seasons, if does feeling like all of their second years at university are missing. Overall, though, despite that feeling of missing portions of it, I've really enjoyed rewatching "Fresh Meat".

Having taken a three-year gap, we rejoin the housemates for their final year. It's a little sad that we didn't get to see more of the middle of their adventures, but as both actors and writers became bigger and bigger stars perhaps its just nice that they managed to come back at all.

It's the final year of university for everyone, except Josie (Kimberley Nixon) so whilst everyone else begins to panic about finals and life afterwards, she is concerned just about losing her friends. JP's (Jack Whitehall) elderly brother Tomothy (Richard Goulding) arrives to ensure keep an eye on his investment in the house. Oregon (Charlotte Ritchie) is the new student president but inherits a budget nightmare that she immediately worsens by cancelling various sports to fund a poetry prize.

There are perhaps less stories of the week, to the shorter six-episode season than in previous years. Rather more it's the big, longer themes spread out. There is another trip to London in one episode though, for the boys anyway. The girls head to a commune so Vod can discuss her future with an old friend. Vod and JP try to organise an alternative end of year party. Josie is confused about her feelings for JP, whom she re-instigates a sexual relationship with, but also doesn't like. Oregon is harangued on all sides for her mismanagement of an already struggling student council.

Watching it now, having come straight from the third season, it does feel a bit like "where's the rest of it". The go from Freshers to finals really quickly and Candice and Sabine drop our of the story altogether - though Sabine makes an appearance in the first episode of the run. Overall though, despite that feeling of missing portions of it, I've really enjoyed rewatching "Fresh Meat".
