I've rarely seen and appreciated as much as SMALL POTATOES... Poor blokes and a girl, just lost in our world, trying to live and dreaming of a new life, really touching and moving and soooo funny. Too bad it is not broadcasted again, it is impossible to find a video or a DVD. Emma Rydal, as Juliet, is incredibly good. The boys are all, each in his own category, great. All the characters are well imagined and built. The episodes are well filmed and these little "non-stories" reach your heart, make you laugh and bring you a sincere understanding of all this almost underground population, who are just human beings with their qualities and their weaknesses.

Voyage Surprise is the funniest and surprising trip of a circumstances sampled group of poetic and comic characters in the post-war France. Each character is rich, each actor just perfect. Every word, every sentence (by Jacques Prevert) might be kept in an anthology. Who didn't leave Fleurville aboard Rossinante, who never visited the SOS Hurricane bedroom in the former Verdeau's whorehouse, who never performed Latude's Escapes in the Palavas-les-Flots' casino, misses a wonderful part of the french humor, wit and poetry. I probably never saw a film with so many scenes to remember and treasure. In fact, I think I saw it more than 15 times along the last 30 years, and I would see it again with delight.

a good story about young and less young people, the conflict between the duties and the need of freedom, well directed by Molinaro, and the almost only memory of a beautiful and excellent young actress, who died too soon after, Juliette Vilard. too bad this film is not released in video, aired on TV or presented in theaters...
