Kudos to the writers for giving us an episode which was exciting, full of plot twists, surprises and maintained the high quality of the franchise. I appreciated the situation where members of the JOC were taken out of their usual element and proved that they could successfully do more than they contribute every week. The writers did not make them appear as background extras, but rather gave them an opportunity to be main characters. It will be interesting to see how next season can top this. I almost didn't recognize Campbell Scott as the FBI Deputy Director. He has changed a lot since I watched him as Boris on Royal Pains (2009-2016), but he did a terrific job in his role.
It was great to see more of the TNG family added to the cast in this episode. They all did a fantastic job without being put into the story just for the sake of them being there. They each make a contribution to the story.
Special note should be given to Amanda Plummer's performance as Vadic. It reminded me of the performance her father, Chirstopher Plummer, gave in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and I mean that as a compliment. She is an amazing performer in her own right, but in this episode, she has outdone herself. If this story arc had been presented for Season 2, there would definitely be a Season 4.
If you haven't seen this episode yet, look for the Easter eggs planted throughout.
