I saw this movie with a group of friends and immediately one of my friends and I determined that this was worth seeing just to heckle it. It's just like FEAR (with Mark Wahlberg) which, for those of you haven't seen a movie before Home Alone is just like FATAL ATTRACTION... but does anyone remember PLAY MISTY FOR ME? That remains the mother of all these kinds of passion thrillers.
ROTTEN ROTTEN MOVIE!!!!!! The best part was the opening credits because they really presented John Carpenter's theme well, and the ending was great, plus the creative email thing but other than this movie was nothing but a routine slashfest! Jamie Lee Curtis has a thankless role.
I wonder if when George Romero anticipated such rotten imitations of his movies. I mean, CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS was funny and ZOMBIE is watchable if you take some aspririn, but now we have THE VIDEO DEAD-the zombie film to end them all. Literally. The plot, for lack of a better word, involves a brother and sister (how original) "inheriting" a demonic television set when they move into a creepy house in the suburbs. As the former owner has already been brutally murdered by homicidal, rotting zombies that have come out of the TV Set, we know that not all is the way it should be. Soon they and some man whose real basis for being in the film is unclear, find themselves fending off these stupid zombies. It's too hilarious for words. I have to say that I used to love this film as a little kid, but now it's more fun to make fun of. A truly good zombie movie hasn't been made since...well...a long time ago. (Probably Day of the Dead, the underrated finale in Romero's trilogy). But here are the definitive zombie flicks: Night of the Living Dead; Dawn of the Dead; Day of the Dead; The Return of the Living Dead; Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things (for laughs); Return of the Living Dead II; Night of the Living Dead- The Remake. Of course, none come close to the original NIGHT and DAWN, and WHATEVER YOU DO, NEVER, EVER rent NIGHT OF THE ZOMBIES. It's the WORST horror film I've ever seen. It's even worse then Last House on the Left!!!! But as far as VIDEO DEAD is concerned, rent it to make fun of. That's why it's there. Throw popcorn at the lady with the big chin or make fun of the ugly woman on the TV that looks like something laying on the side of the road. With a title like VIDEO DEAD, you know they've struck gold!
