8mm is a movie I didn't want to see because it seemed to me like another SnakeEyes. I was wrong. Director Joel Schumacher does a nice job of putting the film together, but he tends to drag out scenes here like he did with Batman & Robin and A Time to Kill. The storyline is interesting, but Cage unusually lacks depth and the two main women (his wife who was very good in Out of Sight) and the woman who hires him are not effective at all. Kudos to Joaquin Phoenix and James Gandolfino who put in very nice performances. Overall I would call it very dark, very disturbing, but worth catching one day on HBO or Cinemax.

I was talked into renting this movie the other night at the video store by the clerk and was pleased with the film. It is very much your typical mob film, but good acting all around really helps. Danny Aiello is back playing a scheming mob personality with Tony Danza in an impressive performance as a guy stuck in a bad situation who fights back. The main plotline involving the exotic and beautiful lead actress playing Gabriella and Vincent Spano (of "Alive" and "Indian Summer") is a nice story but towards the end the plot becomes cheesy. The worst actor award goes to Rick Aiello who just gets really annoying about an hour into the film. I can't believe he won an award for it!! But, overall it was an impressive little independent mob film that is better than the latest Mario Puzzo TV mini-series starring Kirstie Alley.

Like a previous reviewer, I had seen this movie sitting on the shelf of my video store for about two months until one day all the new releases were gone. I have never fallen in love with a movie as quick as I did this one. After I was disappointed with Janeane in "Truth About Cats and Dogs", but loved her brief appearance in "Bye Bye Love", I couldn't wait to see what she would do with this. Masterful job. I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys any type of romantic comedy and sarcasm fan everywhere. If it helps any my favorite movie is "When Harry Met Sally...".
