Résumés

  • Two estranged siblings join forces to seek the legendary Fountain of Youth. Using historical clues, they embark on an epic quest filled with adventure. If successful, the mythical fountain could grant them immortality.

Synopsis

  • In Thailand, disgraced archaeologist Luke Purdue is forced to flee by train after stealing a painting from a criminal gang. He is trying to sleep when a strange woman named Esme and her goons ambush him. They try to take the painting, but Luke's resourcefulness stops them. Luke's sister Charlotte is suffering from a midlife crisis brought on by her uninteresting work as a museum curator in London, in addition to a tense divorce from her husband Harold. At the museum, Luke surprises her by pretending to be talking to someone in order to steal another painting, which he then uses to lure Charlotte into escaping with him.

Charlotte first meets Owen Carver, a wealthy corporate raider who says he has terminal liver cancer, at Luke's hideout. He explains that Luke has been tracking the Fountain of Youth using notes left by their late father Harrison, and that he is collaborating with Murphy and Deb to find it. According to the notes, a group of people who disagreed with the Path's mission set up a scheme to hide clues in six well-known paintings, the last of which is Rembrandt's Head of Christ. The "Protectors of the Path" are a secret society that has been hiding the Fountain's actual location for centuries.

According to Charlotte, the team's Head of Christ is a replica; the original artwork was destroyed when the Lusitania sank. After being fired from her job because of Luke's theft, Charlotte agrees to assist Carver in locating the painting, which he funds through an illegal salvage operation to remove the ship's first-class section. A squad of armed people led by Esme intercepts them and holds Charlotte at gunpoint. Despite his hesitation, Luke is able to disable Esme and save his sister before the wreckage returns to the ocean.

The Thai gangsters Luke had previously robbed and Interpol agents under the command of Inspector Jamal Abbas, who is looking into the theft of the six paintings, raid the hideout when Luke gets back to London. After negotiating the others' release, Luke initiates a gunfight in order to escape by boat. In order to get a job with Carver's company, Harold calls Charlotte and requests that she take custody of their son, Thomas. Luke interprets the paintings' clues that the location of the fountain is hidden in the text of the Wicked Bible, ignoring his sister's anger at entangling his nephew in their affairs.

Luke is once more ambushed by Esme when the team goes to the Austrian National Library to view the only copy of the Bible still in existence. He subdues her and has his team steal the Bible as Owen is confronted by armed men sent to kidnap him and Thomas. She warns him during their fight that the Fountain conceals a terrible power he does not comprehend. The group reassembles to examine the Bible after he repels them with unexpected agility. After an argument that blows up, Charlotte and Thomas storm off, but she reluctantly takes him back after he begs her to change her mind.

A code discovered by Murphy in the Bible, Thomas concludes, is not a series of numbers but rather musical notes. Murphy recognizes the sequence as an old song that pays homage to the Seven Wonders by playing it. Based on what he has discovered, Luke concludes that the Fountain is situated beneath the Great Pyramid of Giza in a secret passage that was recently discovered. When Esme's mentor calls her, he praises her for doing everything she could to complete her mission but tells her that she now has to do whatever it takes to prevent the Fountain from being unearthed.

Despite Charlotte's concerns, Carver accepts Luke's request and employs a sizable mercenary company to guard the pyramid. When Abbas and a group of Interpol officers arrive, the mercenaries swiftly outgun them and pin them down. After Murphy and Deb attempt to step in but are quickly overwhelmed, Esme and her fellow Protectors ambush and eliminate the mercenaries. When Luke, Carver, Thomas, Charlotte, and Carver's bodyguard Praeger discover the Fountain in a huge outdoor room after entering the hidden passage, Abbas offers to assist her.

As his discomfort grows, Carver acknowledges that he is not ill but only wishes to keep the Fountain's power for himself. Luke is threatened with death if he does not drink from the Fountain, and he is shot. Luke is seduced by visions of great power and eternal life when he allows a drop of his blood to come into contact with the water. After a vision reveals the Fountain's curse and shows Charlotte and Thomas perishing from old age while their health is transferred to him, he almost drinks the water. When Luke turns down the water, his injuries are immediately healed.

Esme and Abbas arrive in the chamber as Carver is finishing his water. The Fountain takes his life since he has no one else to steal it from, leaving him a weak, defenseless old man. Esme activates a fail safe and closes the chamber using a key that her mentor gave her. A terrified Praeger dies as the room closes in on them, and the others barely make it out alive.

Outside, Abbas pins Charlotte and Luke to the missing Carver, absolving them of their prior transgressions. Before leaving, Esme gives Luke a kiss and assures him that they will meet again if he keeps looking for forbidden treasures. After gathering his team, Luke pledges to assist Charlotte in locating a respectable job. Thomas is asked by Charlotte what he wants them to look for next.
