Tom Cruise has already starred in one of the biggest blockbusters of the year in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, but now another of his most famous movies has made a surprising move on streaming. Cruise stars alongside Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow, the 2014 sci-fi thriller following a man who gets stuck living the same day over and over again while fighting a war against aliens. Edge of Tomorrow had previously been streaming on Hulu in July, but after leaving the platform at the end of the month, it has since been scooped up by Peacock, where it is now streaming for all subscribers. Edge of Tomorrow grossed $381 million at the box office against a $178 million budget, and the film netted strong scores of 91% from critics and 90% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Tom Cruise once thought a talk show couch was the perfect launchpad for showing the world he had more energy than caffeine and adrenaline combined. Well, since then he has gone into cruise control, quite literally, sticking to what he knows best like sprinting, leaping off cliffs, clinging to planes and occasionally flying them. If the role does not require him to defy gravity, he usually does not answer the call.

The Fantastic Four have finally hit it big at the box office. The newest version of Marvel’s first family, Fantastic Four: First Steps, made a huge splash in its opening weekend, bringing in $118 million in North America alone.
That’s according to estimates released by the studio on Sunday. It’s the fourth biggest debut of the year, right behind A Minecraft Movie, Lilo & Stitch, and Superman.
Worldwide, the numbers are even more impressive. The movie pulled in another $100 million from 52 international markets, giving it a $218 million global debut. That’s a strong start for the first Fantastic Four movie produced under Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige and Disney.
The success was expected, but the film still managed to beat some projections. Just days before its release, it was tracking to open with about $100–110 million in the U.S. and another $90–110 million overseas.

After playing in theaters worldwide for two full months — the movie was given all the room possible to spread its wings — Paramount’s Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoningis staring at a disappointing end to its theatrical run. Unlike its predecessor, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, which debuted in the wake of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, and didn’t get a proper roll-out in IMAX, The Final Reckoning didn’t face direct competition for at least a couple of weeks following its debut. However, the film’s divisive reviews and conflicted audience response stopped it from recapturing the past glory of Mission: Impossible - Fallout.
Released in 2017, Fallout earned a near-perfect 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and grossed nearly $800 million worldwide in its box office run. The Final Reckoning needed to beat this number in order to break even, considering its massive budget of $400 million. Costs...

Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Overtakes Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man At Global Box Office(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning has climbed several box office charts in its ninth weekend, once again proving the franchise’s longevity. Particularly at the domestic box office, it has exhibited stellar performance despite fierce competition from new releases like Superman and Jurassic World: Rebirth.
One might even wonder how well the movie would command without rival studio Disney aggressively claiming multiple screens, as the forthcoming release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to deter Final Reckoning viewings to precipitously drop before the $600 million worldwide. However, Disney has been served justice, as it suffered another setback at the hands of Final Reckoning, particularly challenging the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Netflix’s July slate includes more than a few high-profile film originals, including “The Old Guard 2” and Adam Sandler’s “Happy Gilmore 2.”
In addition to its own, in-house movies, though, the streamer has also added an exciting batch of film acquisitions to its platform this month. Some of the noteworthy July additions to Netflix’s library include an unfairly oft-forgotten Tom Hanks thriller, an enduring 1980s classic, the most underrated “Mission: Impossible” movie and one of the most important films in Hollywood history.
Here are TheWrap’s picks for the seven best movies that have started streaming on Netflix in July.

After wowing audiences with Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi's Love and Thunder left most MCU fans perplexed and ready to grab pitchforks.
While Thor: Ragnarok was widely praised, Thor: Love and Thunder received a more mixed response from critics and audiences. Following that, Taika Waititi appeared to take a step back from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s been speculated that Marvel may be reassessing what role he could play in future projects.
Likewise, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has been somewhat vague in recent interviews about the status of Waititi's Star Wars movie, which was first announced back in May 2020.
However, it seems Waititi is not done with the superhero genre as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that he's currently developing a Judge Dredd movie with prominent British screenwriter Drew Pearce, known for Iron Man 3 and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

It's official: A "Judge Dredd" reboot is in development. This time, "Thor: Ragnarok" director and Oscar winner Taika Waititi will be at the helm. He's teaming up with screenwriter Drew Pearce, the screenwriter of "The Fall Guy" and "Mission: Impossible -- Rogue Nation" fame, making for an attractive duo. But fans of 2012's "Dredd" may be unhappy as this is a reboot and not a sequel, so don't expect to see Karl Urban putting the helmet back on.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new "Judge Dredd" movie based on the character from the "2000 Ad" comic series is being shopped to various Hollywood studios, with a bidding war likely to ensue. This project seemingly takes the place of the "Judge Dredd: Mega-City One" TV show that had been in the works since 2017. After years of fans campaigning for a sequel to 2012's Dredd, it looks like they will get a new Judge Dredd movie, just not the one they expected. Created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, Judge Dredd first appeared in the British weekly anthology comic 2000 Ad. A cult sci-fi hero, the character has had two film adaptations. The first was Sylvester Stallone's 1995 film, which disappointed fans and critics. 2012's Dredd, starring Karl Urban, earned positive critical reviews and, despite disappointing at the box office, gained a cult following.

Taika Waititi, the Oscar-winning filmmaker of “Jojo Rabbit” and two “Thor” movies, has set sights on his next project.
He’s attached to direct “Judge Dredd,” a feature film about the British comic book character, Variety has confirmed. Drew Pearce, known for “Fall Guy” and “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” will adapt the screenplay. The project doesn’t have a studio attached and is being shopped around Hollywood.
Created in the 1970s by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, Judge Dredd is a law enforcement and judicial officer in the dystopian metropolis of Mega-City One. Often a satire of American and British culture, the character has bionic eyes and is empowered to serve as judge, jury and executioner in the fascist society. He first appeared in the pages of the weekly British anthology comic “2000 Ad.”
The character made his big-screen debut in 1995’s big-budget flop “Judge Dredd,” starring Sylvester Stallone.

Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning is tracking to finish its domestic run and hit the $200 million milestone. Mission: Impossible 8 is losing financially, and this is due to multiple reasons, including its massive budget requiring an unusually high break-even point. Despite Tom Cruise’s star power, the film’s emotional payoff and spectacle haven’t fully resonated with audiences, leading to an underwhelming global performance so far. There is also steep competition, and most makers want to push their films during the summer window.

After a rather underwhelming theatrical run, Paramount's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is looking forward to passing what could be its final box office milestone: the $600 million mark. While this would've been a terrific result in different circumstances, the issue of The Final Reckoning's reported budget of $400 million makes it undeniably disappointing. The movie needed to gross at least $200 million more, and that, too, just to break even. But it seems like audiences have run out of patience for director Christopher McQuarrie's elaborately designed take on the action franchise, after a sudden pivot with these last two films.
The Final Reckoning was sold as the last installment of the franchise. But there hasn't been any official word on this yet, leading many to believe that this was simply a marketing plot to boost awareness. Regardless, the film's inflated costs left little room for error for the studio,...

The first film in the franchise to place Christopher McQuarrie in the director’s chair, “Mission: Impossible 5 – Rogue Nation” treads a path that feels deeply, unmistakably familiar. But with a high-stakes, high-reward spy thriller, this self-aware—armed with irreverent action and an even more irreverent sense of fan-service—that scent of sameness mutates into something volatile, almost intoxicating. And for once, for all the right reasons. Yet what’s even more compelling is how McQuarrie’s writing consciously charts its influences: there are deliberate nods to the James Bond universe, a thematic fit for a film that released the same year as the conversation-sparking “Spectre.” These gestures are smartly fused with the energetic, character-rich precision of Brad Bird’s direction in “Ghost Protocol,” preserving the blind loyalty we continue to place in the godlike charisma of Ethan Hunt.
What makes “Rogue Nation” tick, though, is how it builds itself around its many ‘firsts.

With a reported $400 million production budget, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise's last outing as action hero Ethan Hunt, was always going to struggle to return any sort of financial success for Paramount. Nevertheless, that hasn't stopped the film from proving popular with audiences, managing to battle tough competition from newer releases to finish in the top 5 on its most recent fifth box office weekend.
In total, across the latest weekend, The Final Reckoning returned $6.5 million domestically from its fewest number of theaters yet: 2,603. This has helped the film reach a global total of $540 million to date, split between a domestic haul of $178 million and a further $362 million from overseas markets. This places the final installment in the franchise just $15 million behind its direct predecessor, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, with the film now almost guaranteed to fall short of the global totals of Mission: Impossible - Fallout,...

Mission: Impossible franchise director Christopher McQuarrie has finally opened up about their decision to kill off one of the franchise’s legacy characters in the newest entry, The Final Reckoning. McQuarrie has been part of the blockbuster action franchise since 2015, beginning with Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which remains as one of its highest-rated installments.
During a recent interview with Empire, McQuarrie explained why the death of Ving Rhames’ long-time character Luther had to happen in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. He revealed that the beloved character’s death was crucial to the latest installment’s story since its theme was all about sacrifice. The filmmaker confirmed that Rhames was very supportive of the decision because it allowed his character to have an emotional and proper send-off.

The Transformers franchise is one of the more contentious ones in modern cinema. The films receive poor critical reviews but often lead to huge financial success, unless it's the highest-rated entry in Transformers One, which inexplicably defied the impressive critical reception with a disappointing box office haul. Helmed by the equally controversial Michael Bay, there's no doubting just how popular the movies have been over the past 20 years, even if they are often the source of parody.

Wade Eastwood was the stunt coordinator and second unit director on “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” his fourth consecutive film in the franchise, capping off what has been an intense 12-year collaboration with the film’s producer and star Tom Cruise.
Before linking up with Cruise, the South African-born stunt performer turned stunt coordinator had been building quite the resume, having worked with Brad Pitt on the star’s biggest pre-“F1” action films, as well as helming the action on “X-Men” and “James Bond” movies. But its been the decade-plus intense collaboration with Cruise that has represented the pinnacle of Eastwood’s career to this point, as the star pushes his team to build upon the previous film’s lessons to propel the next one to even greater heights. Tom Cruise's next mission, should he choose to accept it, will be to collect an honorary Oscar.
The 62-year-old actor has been announced as one of the recipients of the 2025 Governors Awards alongside choreographer-artist Debbie Allen, production designer Wynn Thomas, and singer-songwriter Dolly Parton, the latter of whom will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. The awards will be handed out on Nov. 16 in Los Angeles.
Cruise rose to fame in the 1980s as the star of several teen movies before blowing up in Top Gun (1986) and becoming one of Hollywood's most bankable stars. He followed with a string of popcorn films that included Interview With the Vampire (1994), Minority Report (2002), War of the Worlds (2005), and the Mission: Impossible franchise (eight films between 2000 and 2025). While those types of films rarely result in trophy wins, Cruise still has a storied awards history that goes back decades.

Do movie stars still exist? Film journalists, cinephiles, and producers have been debating this point for over a decade, declaring the movie star extinct.
But throughout the 2010s, Hollywood leaned into intellectual properties and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while original films starring A-list talents like Jennifer Lawrence (“Passengers”), Johnny Depp (“The Lone Ranger”), and Will Smith (“Gemini Man”) flopped, and gradually everybody seemed to be lining up to pay their respects at the grave of the movie star.
They’ve blamed the death on Hollywood’s hunger for IP, the erasure of the mid-budget movie, and the rise of television. But many of these arguments miss the forest for the trees: We not only still have movie stars today, but stardom today is very similar to what it was in the Golden Age of Hollywood. The film industry is not post-movie stars, and big-name actors still influence audiences’ viewing habits and films’ financial success.

Star Tom Cruise has spent the last several years playing in the franchise sandbox, and the move has paid off handsomely. But there was a time when he'd collaborate with some of the biggest filmmakers in the business. In the first half of his career, Cruise worked with the likes of Stanley Kubrick, Cameron Crowe, Steven Spielberg, and more. He seems to be retreating from big-budget blockbusters, with an upcoming movie directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu lined up. At the same time, Cruise's career-defining franchise, Mission: Impossible, appears to have arrived at the end of the road with the recently released eighth installment, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning.
The movie was marketed as the final installment of the long-running action franchise, which has generated over $4.5 billion at the worldwide box office. The Final Reckoning itself has grossed around $460 million globally, and is now among the 10 biggest hits of Cruise's remarkable career.

In less than 20 days of release at the worldwide box office, Paramount's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning has become one of the 300 biggest hits in history. The action film recently overtook another Paramount blockbuster on the all-time global charts, as it aims to pass the coveted $500 million mark this weekend. The Final Reckoning is one of the most expensive movies ever produced, which means that it's not even close to being in the clear, but passing a film as celebrated as Gladiator should be seen as an encouraging sign.

Director Christopher McQuarrie has been all things Mission: Impossible for a decade. He directed and wrote Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation in 2015 and has been working with Tom Cruiseon the films in the series ever since. The latest, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, was released on May 23, 2025, in the United States, and as usual, garnered a lot of attention, good and bad. There were positive reviews about Cruise's self-performed stunts, the explosions, and overall top-notch action, which made the final installment one to remember. However, its main criticism was the early exposition, which McQuarrie explained during an interview with The New York Times.

In the battle of super spy dominance, the two names at the top of the table (unless Jason Bourne turns up with a rolled-up newspaper) are James Bond and Ethan Hunt. 007 might have a few years on Tom Cruise's Impossible Mission Force member, but since the latter arrived on screens in 1996, the competition has always been there and might never stop, even after "Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning." While the argument might rage on, though, there are a handful of fortunate souls who are lucky enough to give perhaps the best comparison possible, given that they've inhabited both of those worlds. Yes, over the eight "Mission: Impossible" movies and 27 Bond films, some actors have dared to get a taste of danger by dabbling in both their worlds, crossing paths with both Ethan Hunt and James Bond sometimes mere years apart.

There's no denying the impact 28 Days Later had on the horror genre. Although not technically the undead, the "infected" in the movie revitalized what was quickly becoming a tired zombie gimmick in film, breathing new life into the monsters whilst also holding a mirror up to society in a bleak and powerful way akin toDawn of the Dead. Danny Boyle's frenzied horror, led by Cillian Murphy’s breakout performance, is considered by many to be one of the genre's best.
However, fewer have indulged further into the franchise and tasted the flesh of the lesser-known sequel, 28 Weeks Later. Directed and co-written by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the 2007 installment follows siblings Tammy (Imogen Poots) and Andy (Mackintosh Muggleton), a pair of beacons in a bleak landscape with their genes thought to hold the cure to the Rage Virus. Alongside Poots and Muggleton, the movie also stars the big-name trio of Robert Carlyle,...

Tom Cruise did his first underwater scene for “Legend” (1985), followed by executing far more demanding scenes in “Edge of Tomorrow” (2014) and most famously “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” (2015), where he held his breath for six-and-a-half minutes. But when writer/director Christopher McQuarrie, who has made eleven films with Cruise, was on the Filmmaker Toolkit podcast, he made clear the duo walked away from “Rogue Nation” deeply dissatisfied with the underwater set piece.
“Shooting in water is extremely challenging and very frustrating,” said McQuarrie, who at one point swore never to do another underwater scene.
According the McQuarrie, the biggest problem is how time-consuming these scenes can be to shoot, having been limited to only six setups a day working in the tank on “Rogue Nation.” He also said there were a number of mistakes made in how the underwater scenes had been designed for the 2015 “M:i” movie, including its over-reliance on visual effects.

Just last month, Shia Labeouf added another exciting new title to his ever-growing filmography with Salvable, a boxing drama also starring Toby Kebbell. Although receiving mixed reviews from critics, an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes proves that the film was a hit with audiences, with Kebbell and Labeouf's dedicated training under the tutelage of former pro boxer Carl Frochclearly paying off.
Perhaps in light of Salvable's positive reception with audiences, or simply thanks to Labeouf's enduring appeal as a committed performer, one of his forgotten former flicks has made its way into a streamer's top 10. Currently, 2008's Eagle Eye is proving popular on Paramount+, joining the list as the #7 most-streamed movie on the platform as of June 5, 2025.Eagle Eye, sadly, faced a similar mixed reception to the aforementioned Salvable, with audiences on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes awarding the film a strong 65%, but critics delivering a tragic 27% that certainly underrates this entertaining,...

Tom Cruise has always done everything he could to provide moviegoers with the best experience at the theaters, and that includes doing the stunts himself. He learned how to fly different types of planes, climbed the world's tallest buildings, ran, jumped, and held his breath underwater for many minutes, and most of them were for the Mission: Impossible franchise.
Naturally, all his hard work led to him breaking a few records. The actor returned as Ethan Hunt for seemingly the last time in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and that came with even more death-defying stunts. For one of them, Cruise jumped 16 times with a burning parachute and scored himself a new Guinness World Record.

Ahead of the official announcement, Cruise posted a clip from behind the scenes when filming The Final Reckoning's dangerous stunt.

Bogieville Official Full-Length Trailer: "The highly anticipated southern-fried vampire road movie “Bogieville”, directed by acclaimed British filmmaker and actor Sean Cronin, releases today, June 3, 2025, in North America by Level 33 Entertainment and on June 13, 2025 in the UK via Trinity Creative Partnership, on VOD via Amazon, Apple TV and Fandango at Home, among other premium digital channels.
Written by screenwriter Henry P. Gravelle, “Bogieville” unfolds in a decaying American trailer park where a young couple, Ham and Jody, are enticed to stay by the unsettling caretaker, Crawford. The ensemble also features Jonathan Hansler, Ayvianna Snow, Sarina Taylor (“Reckless”), Andrew Lee Potts, along with newcomers Poppie Jae Hughe and Daniel P. Lewis.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is dominating the box office after earning over $200 million in less than a week, which has helped other installments in Tom Cruise’s action franchise find success on streaming. However, one has excelled more than others. 2018 brought on the release of Mission: Impossible - Fallout, which is not only the highest-rated entry in the franchise with a 98% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but it also introduced Henry Cavill as August Walker/John Lark to the Mi universe. The sixth Mission: Impossible film, which also netted an 89% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter, has become a global streaming sensation, topping streaming charts in more than 10 countries. The film is available to stream on Paramount+ in the U.S. and on HBO Max in most international territories.

Spoilers for "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning" follow.
Ethan Hunt has had his final reckoning, and "Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning" has become a box office win. The film is absolutely loaded with Easter eggs, call-backs, and fan-favorite characters returning to enjoy their overdue moment in the sun.
But there is one character whose absence is felt in every frame of the very long movie: Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa Faust. First introduced in Christopher McQuarrie's "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" as the ultimate foil to Tom Cruise's superstar spy Ethan Hunt, Isla won audience's over with her uber-capable spy skills and her inability to wink. The film ended up changing the entire path of the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, and Isla is no small reason why.
That's why when Ilsa died in "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning," many in the audience were just as heartbroken as Ethan Hunt.
