Avis à la une
Rather than looking at the title of this flick and thinking "oh, another stupid American style zombie flick", you should definitely be considering this as a Japanese action/gore/over the top madness flick. If you've seen this director's other films (Machine Girl, Tokyo Gore Police), then you know exactly what you're getting into. Blood, gore, fecal matter, tapeworm zombies, farting, more fecal matter, spinning tapeworm heads, kung fu fighting.... etc. You get it.
Personally, I love these Tokyo Shock flicks for all they're worth. Some folks will certainly hate this stuff, cuz frankly, most Tokyo Shock is absolutely bizarre and weirdly fetishistic. But hey, if you can't laugh at some tentacle rape and ridiculous farting tapeworm zombies, why are you even here? Lighten up, have some fun and pop in a good ol' fashioned Japanese Shock Action flick like this and laugh a bit.

Wracked with guilt over the suicide of her bullied sister, young karate student Megumi accompanies four older friends on a trip into the woods: smart girl Aya, her druggie boyfriend, model Maki, and nerdy Naoi. Things start to go badly when Maki finds a parasitical worm inside a fish -- and wolfs it down, in the hope that it will keep her skinny.
If you liked the outhouse scenes in "Dead Snow", you will love "Zombie Ass" -- because there is fecal matter everywhere, flatulence used as jet propulsion, gratuitous butt crack... this is the sort of silly awesomeness that only Japan can bring.
We get this gem from director Noboru Iguchi, best known for "The Machine Girl". If you liked "Machine Girl", you will probably like this one, too. I mean, geez, it is zombies and poop... and then it gets weird.

Right, you have to be a fan of the extreme Japanese gore movies to enjoy a movie such as "Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead". Just look at the title of the movie, and you know immediately what kind of movie you are in for here.
So is it worth it? Yes it is. This movie is hilarious and just sickly over the top enough to be enjoyable. There are a lot of funny scenes that had me either laughing or just shaking my head in disbelief. And only from Japan would something be spawned. But of course, from the director of "The Machine Girl" and "Robo Geisha", a movie like this would have to see the light of day eventually. And personally, then I am glad that I bought this movie for my collection.
"Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead" is a great addition to any zombie aficionado's collection. But as I said above, preferably only if you enjoy this bizarre sub-genre of splatter and gore movies from Japan.
The story in the movie, well it is fairly straight forward, bizarre and twisted, but funny and enjoyable. A group of young people go out to the woods where they encounter a zombie, and they end up taking shelter in a small house; a house that is used by a doctor to keep his daughter alive through some very unorthodox methods.
The zombies in this movie are indeed something not seen before, so thumbs up for the innovative thinking here, despite it being so extremely weird. But you just got to love the way that they end up moving about as the parasites start to burst out from their orifices.
I will say that people in the movie were doing good jobs with their given roles, which really helped the movie quite well along a great way.
Effects-wise, then "Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead" is not a spectacle of awesome effects and amazing CGI. It makes uses of some fairly simple effects, but they work out well enough, and just adds to the overall bizarre mood of the entire movie.
As a zombie aficionado I enjoy the occasional zombie spoof every now and then, and "Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead" is a great Japanese zombie spoof that mixed enough ingredients of various genres into a strange, bizarre stew that simmers just right and becomes enjoyable in a sickening and oh-so-wrong way. As noted on the DVD cover "...What the f*** did I just watch?" - Hubert Vigilla, JAPAN CUTS - that pretty much sums up the spirit of the movie in the best possible way.

I almost didn't watch this, although I was on a rabbit hole binge set up by needing to confirm how bad "Forbidden Zone" really was. Eventually, I arrived at this absolute corker of a bad but hilarious movie suitable for a group watch-a group not repulsed by special effects involving zombies, large parasitic worms and just the right amount of crap. They should probably be a little drunk. My rating is a combination of 5 stars for the actual movie quality and 8 stars for the experience of watching it with the right group of friends. You know: people who enjoy screaming in disgusted laughter together.
There are weird Japanese movies...Than there is Noboru Iguchi movies. His movies seems to get more messed up with each installments. Movies like this show that just because a movie is weird and grotesque doesn't equal a cool or entertaining flick. Iguchi was a porn director before making these exploitation flicks and it really shows in this one. With constant fetishes from farting, pooping, things coming in and out of the anus, mouth and eye balls. Oh and tentacle rape. And also has crap covered zombies, high school girls that know karate, sexual harassment dudes, skanky girls, parasites, crazy scientist, and some psycho school girl. So yeah it combines messed up exploitation stuff in one movie. Yeah, it's messed up and gross but I didn't feel like I was amused or entertained or found anything that happen in this flick to be cool. Some audiences that are into these fetishes might like it though.
