I am joining to the ones who gave 10/10 for this series. Raw and tangible, keeps your attention awake from the first scene to... The whole story is very real, the actors makes it more credible. You can feel that this is the true face of Kingston in Jamaica. Bright skins in a hot climate, ruined walls of houses in a poor capital.
This series put Jamaican films in the movie business. It is on the same level with True detectives 1st and The Major of Kingstone.
What a different point of view to see Jamaica from the mainland instead of the oceanview resorts. It is also refreshing to watch real Jamaican faces!

Millie-Jean Black grew up in The UK, but was originally born in Kingston, Jamaica, until she clashes with her mother and was sent to London. After a tough time in The Met, Millie returns to Jamaica, where she's investigating murder, abduction and trying to help her sister.
I loved that this felt different, unlike any other procedural cop show I've seen in ages, it's well paced, intriguing, has several actions scenes, it just manages to keep you interested.
I really did enjoy the look at West Indian, Jamaican culture, very interesting and refreshing, and whilst it did spend a lot of time criticising British culture, it's just worth pondering attitudes on being gay in both countries, one is hugely accepting, one isn't. I don't think the writer ignored that, to his credit.
Tamara Lawrence did an excellent job, I really hope we get to see more Millie Black.
8/10.

Some things are hard for me to stomach, some scenes cause me discomfort but, the show overall is good, so far. Have to ignore the tom foolery and you'll enjoy it. I don't think certain people will care for much of it because it does not shy away from race. An accurate depiction if you ask me. The characters feel very real, I cant think of any character that plays any sort of noticeable role that does not feel authentic. Well, maybe the main character in a way, as everyone feels as if they are life long, born and raised in Jamaica, Jamaicans, Miller, doesn't. Wait a segundo, she was born there but!......this is a pretty good watch.
Get Millie Black is dynamic! It presents a powerful new story and a raw look at people who are rarely portrayed on television.
This is a refreshing and much needed respite from the same old plot lines and tired well worn characters played by the usual actors that Hollywood loves to return to.
So, if you're tired of seeing the same leading men being PITT against evil forces only to inevitably CRUISE to yet another resounding victory then Get Millie Black should not disappoint.
Thankfully HBO recognized that there is a hungry viewing audience that is eager to see all manner of diversity displayed on screen.
Marlin James did an excellent job transferring the authentic prose of his novels to the silver screen.
This deserves to be renewed for additional seasons. Here's hoping that it does.

I thought this was a really good series and couldn't believe the low 6.5 rating in IMDb. I am a fan of police/crime/thriller/mystery dramas, however so many are mundane, formulaic, and predictable. So I welcomed this series which was a refreshing break from the formulaic stuff being churned out nowadays. I thought it fast-paced and believable with clever and moving interwoven plotlines.
I did have a problem understanding the Jamaican dialect which I'm not accustomed to and wished subtitles had been provided (not available with my edition). Yet one still cares about the main protagonists and what will happen to them. I did lose a sense of plot twists occasionally but that didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the series. I'm already on the lookout for Season 2.
