Canadian actor Graham Greene, who died Monday, is being remembered by a wide range of his acting and filmmaking colleagues. Kevin Costner, who directed him to a supporting actor Oscar nomination and co-starred with him in “Dances With Wolves,” paid tribute on Instagram Tuesday.

“A few things come to mind when I think of Graham Greene and our time together on ‘Dances With Wolves,'” he wrote.

“I think of how willing he was to learn the Lakota language. I think of my joy when I heard that his work on the film was recognized with an @theacademy Awards nomination. And I think of this scene in particular, when he was able to establish so much about the relationship between Dunbar and the natives with so few words. He was a master at work and a wonderful human being.”

A lot of people were disappointed with the horrible sequel to Pacific Rim. While Uprising failed, there were a slew of ideas from the original creative team that could have made for a prequel that could have been a box office juggernaut in recent years.

If only we had Guillermo del Toro and his team had gotten their way, we could have had another mecha monster hit to enjoy in theaters. However, the original writer of the film, Travis Beacham, had a fantastic idea for a prequel, despite not being very keen on them as a concept.

We are in a massive funk no doubt at the domestic box office, with the big question is whether we’ll ever get back to 2018 levels, when it grossed $11.9 billion. However, what was clear coming away from the studio-exhibitor love-in at Caesars Palace was that the studios aren’t bailing on theatrical: they delivered the stars, they delivered stunts (we’ll get into that) with a robust lineup of product including Avatar: Fire & Ash, Superman, Jurassic World Rebirth, Ballerina, Lilo & Stich, Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning to indicate that better days are ahead. The new Minecraft movie is minting gold at the box office.

The family-friendly movie earned a huge $58 million on Friday — including a record $10.6 million in previews — putting it on course for a domestic debut of $135 million or more.

Not only would that mark the biggest opening of the year to date, but it would also mark one of the top starts ever for a video game adaptation. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, released in early April 2023, presently wears the domestic crown with $146.4 million. (Some rival studios show Minecraft doing as much as $150 million.)

The high-wattage ensemble pic is coming in well ahead of expectations and couldn’t have come at a better time. The 2025 box office has seen its fortunes fall off dramatically in recent weeks. Minecraft could prove to be the shot of confidence Hollywood studios and cinema owners need after recent films, including Disney’s Snow White, transformed into major disappointments.

We’ve confirmed that VFX-less copies of Warner Bros/Legendary’s A Minecraft Movie has been leaked online. Who the hell wants to watch that? The situation is under control with the studios Whac-a-Mole-ing them out. We’re told that it appears most of the links have been expunged.

Exclusive: Patrick Wachsberger and Legendary Entertainment’s nascent sales and production joint venture 193 has set its first international sales title in the shape of Peter Dinklage starrer The Toxic Avenger, which it will be screening and shopping at next month’s Cannes market.

Oscar winner Wachsberger, the former Lionsgate Motion Picture co-chairman, didn’t have to look far for his first project. Macon Blair’s completed film is a Legendary production.

The dark comedy, a reimagining of Lloyd Kaufman and Troma Entertainment’s 1984 cult classic of the same name, stars Peter Dinklage, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Jacob Tremblay, Julia Davis and Taylour Paige. Macon also scripted the reboot.

Updated: As Hollywood begins to descend upon Las Vegas ahead of the start of CinemaCon tomorrow, it was a mixed bag at the international box office this weekend. Jason Statham-starrer A Working Man muscled in with a $30.2M global bow, including $15M from overseas markets, while Snow White saw a 48% drop in the offshore sophomore session.

At the same time, Gower Street Analytics has increased its global 2025 forecast to $34.1B. Though that revision is largely down to the overperformance of Chinese blockbuster Ne Zha 2, there’s plenty to look forward to on the horizon – much of which we’ll get a glimpse at and be reporting on from here in Las Vegas this week.

Looking for now at this weekend overseas, Disney’s Snow White was the top studio movie of the session, adding $22.1M from 51 offshore markets. That takes the running international total to $76.3M and global to $143.1M.

Several major movies have suffered release date delays, including Oscar-winner and Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio’s upcoming mysterious crime thriller. Set to be helmed by Academy Award nominee Paul Thomas Anderson, the project has now been pushed back from August 8 to September 26, while Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Frankenstein musical The Bride! faces an even greater delay, moving from September to March 6, 2026.

Magic: The Gathering is a collectible trading card game that's been popular since the early 1990s, where players take on the roles of powerful Planeswalker wizards and do battle against each other. The game currently has 50 million players around the world. And now, Hollywood wants to make a Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This is a joint venture between Hasbro Entertainment, which owns Magic: The Gathering; and Legendary Entertainment, which is behind the new swath of Dune movies and TV shows, as well as the newer Godzilla/Kong movies and the upcoming Minecraft movie. They know their way around a franchise.

Per THR, the plan is to start with a Magic: The Gathering movie before expanding to TV. Adapting Magic to the screen is different from adapting, say, Dune, which is based on a book that has a story with a beginning, middle and end.
