Ciara Renee has reportedly filed a lawsuit against the producers of the upcoming Broadway musical Wanted, claiming that she was promised to play the lead role and was later cut from the show.
The 34-year-old actress is best known for playing Hawkgirl in the DC Comics television series Legends of Tomorrow, as well as in episodes of The Flash and Arrow. She most recently had a recurring role on Your Honor season two. On Broadway, she has appeared in musicals like Big Fish, Pippin, Frozen, and Waitress.
Ciara played the role of Mary Clarke in the musical Wanted during its pre-Broadway run in New Jersey last year when the show was still called Gun & Powder.

Did you watch the first season of Netflix’s Wednesday and come away wishing for more mystery and less humor, more of the secondary members of the Addams family and less of Jenna Ortega’s Emmy-nominated performance, more of the supernatural world of outcasts and less of the real world for contrast?
It’s Ok not to remember exactly. Wednesday premiered nearly three years ago, a duration also known as “adolescence” for most of the underaged supporting cast.
Fortunately, and conveniently, few of the specific plot details from that well-received season are all that relevant. There are enough expositional reminders here for a general catch-up, but the truth is that the new season of Wednesday is so generic that my biggest challenge was separating my memory of the first season from nearly identical dynamics that played out in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Percy Jackson and the Olympians and...

Every morning, I find myself waking up with an itch to challenge my brain, and the daily dose of puzzles from Actorle and its sister games has become the perfect remedy. There’s something oddly comforting and exciting about taking on the daily quizzes that test my pop culture memory and logical reasoning alike.
Like always, I jumped into the action with Actorle first, before moving on to Fill The Grid, the always-surprising Storyboard, and StarWords. And if you’re here for the answers, you’re in the right place. I’ve cracked them all and laid out the solutions for July 25, 2025, just below.
Actorle Solution for Today The solution for Actorle on July 25 is Steve Martin | Credit: Actorle/FandomWire
The first thing I look for in any Actorle puzzle is how long the mystery actor has been in the industry, and for July 25’s set, the actor has been in Hollywood for 44 years.

“It was quite uncanny,” says Reece Feldman, without a trace of irony, about the Cannes debut of his short film, "Wait, Your Car?"
Normally, the digital creator — known to his millions of followers as @guywithamoviecamera — is capturing the work of others. For the first time this spring, he captured his own. “I tend to be pragmatic and practical by nature,” he tells Gold Derby. “So it was genuinely something I couldn’t have dreamed of because I just don’t allow myself to dream that big.”
But there he was in May, premiering his own 12-minute short in front of an audience of hundreds on the French Riviera, at an event hosted by TikTok. He calls the experience a “privilege” — and true to form, he was more excited about the technical specs of the debut than anything else. “It wasn’t just hooked up to some Hdmi and a laptop...

2020 will always be that year for fans of this acclaimed Starz drama that has unfortunately been unavailable on streaming for a while. Debuting on the network on May 17, 2020, Hightown concluded its three-season run on March 8, 2024, and has failed to appear on any subscription service ever since it was abruptly removed from Starz. That’s about to change, as What's on Netflix reports that the crime series has now found a new streaming home on Netflix, where it will be available to watch in the U.S. starting next month.
On Wednesday, July 23, Netflix will add seasons of Hightown, which stars Monica Raymund as Jackie Quiñones, a National Marine Fisheries Service Agent in Provincetown, Massachusetts, who is the primary focus of the series. The character, who suffers from alcoholism, drug addiction, and obsessive behavior, finds her life upended when she’s pulled into criminal investigations in her beach community, clashing with...

Director Doug Liman is set to take on the seemingly insurmountable task of turning Stephen King's enormous magnum opus, The Stand, into a feature film. Twenty-six years ago, he tackled another project with a dizzying array of intersecting narratives and made a movie that won over critics but disappointed at the box office — and soon you'll be able to watch it at its new streaming home. The acclaimed 1999 crime comedy Go is coming to Paramount+ on July 1.
The film was Liman's third film, and the first after the sleeper-hit success of his sophomore effort, Swingers; that film not only launched Liman's career, but those of stars Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn. Penning the script was John August; Go was his first produced screenplay, but he would go on to write the first two Charlie's Angels films, Guy Ritchie's Aladdin, and a litany of Tim Burton projects, including Big Fish,...

Exclusive: Billy Barratt, star of Danny and Michael Philippou’s grippingly intense, dark and twisted Bring Her Back, was able to get into the mood for horror by being locked alone in a room, he reveals.
Brit actor Barratt, 17, who also plays Casper Morrow, one of the few humans able to communicate with the alien invaders in the Apple TV+ drama Invasion, tells Deadline: “There were moments where Danny would basically lock me in a room by myself, and he goes, ‘Just try and get in character.’ He shut the door, I’m not allowed to leave. I ended up just sitting there with no phone, no nothing — which is great, by the way. I just sat there for ages, and then when I came back outside of that door, back into the scene … you just feel like you are there are in it.”

While the Max rebrand back to HBO Max has the streaming world in a tizzy, it’s worth remembering the significance of keeping diverse subscriptions. While “Hacks” and “The Last of Us” wrap up over on that side of your library, the Hulu and Disney bundle is essential for maximizing this summer’s offerings.
Disney+ continues to be the go-to streamer for family friendly viewing options; this month, they’ll add the official “Frozen” Broadway musical to that library, along with Marvel’s “Ironheart,” about Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) who was introduced in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
Hulu has everything you need for an “Alien” movie marathon, all to gear up for FX’s “Alien: Earth” which premieres in August. You could also do a “Mamma Mia!” marathon or “Bachelor” binge — we’re not here to judge.
Top Pick: “The Bear” Season 4 (Available on Hulu)

Anthony Michael Hall was one of the most sought-after young actors of the 80s, appearing in numerous hit coming-of-age films, and one of the members of the group of young actors dubbed as the "Brat Pack." It's recently been announced that the actor will be joining the cast of the Netflix series Wednesday.
Per Variety, the actor will appear in the series based on American cartoonist Charles Addams' The Addams Familyin a yet-undisclosed role. His addition to the cast marks a reunion between Hall and Wednesday executive producer – and director of four Season 1 episodes – Tim Burton.
Image via Prime Video
The two previously worked together on Burton's Edward Scissorhands, starring Johnny Depp as the eponymous blade-fingered protagonist, in which Hall played Jim, Kim's jealous, arrogant boyfriend – and the film's primary antagonist. Both Edward Scissorhands and Wednesday fall under an aesthetic umbrella that has characterized Burton's career, blending dark, gothic elements with more whimsical fantasy.

Family secrets, a love triangle, and self-discovery are just part of the creative tapestry in The Life List, an endearing tale full of “aw shucks” that’s designed to warm hearts. It will, even though the film struggles to land in any one genre. It’s a rom-com, it's a tragic family drama, it’s a mission-driven story with a goal in mind, it’s a coming-of-age story, it’s a "yas queen" girlboss flick, it's… not quite sure what it is. It’s all that and filled with attractive actors, so there's great eye candy all around. And there’s Connie Britton, playing a matriarch determined to make sure her daughter gets her life on track. This film is loaded with warm fuzzies, and the ever-reliable Britton is a believable emotional boost, adding an extra touch of warmth in a story already overflowing with it.

If you were alive and paying attention in the early 2000s, chances are you remember Tim Burton’s Big Fish. Or maybe you don’t. That’s kind of the problem. Here we are, over twenty years later, and Big Fish remains a cinematic anomaly—loved by those who saw it but often forgotten in broader conversations about Burton’s filmography. How did one of the director’s most ambitious, heartfelt, and visually stunning films fade into relative obscurity? And why does it deserve to be remembered as his second-best film, right behind Ed Wood? Let’s dive into this weird, wonderful, and sadly overlooked masterpiece to figure out just what the fuck happened to Big Fish.

When people ask me who my favorite filmmakers are, one of the first names that pop into my twisted brain meats is Tim Burton, the mad genius behind such timeless and stylish films as Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Batman, Ed Wood, Dark Shadows, and one of my personal favorites, Big Fish. From the start of his career as a director of unique short films, it was apparent Burton would go on to create great things. When Pee-wee’s Big Adventure “Tequila” danced its way onto the silver screen, it was clear that a genie had escaped the Hollywood bottle. I think ‘Wednesday’ fans are tired of waiting by now, but hang in there, the wait is almost over. In the first season of the Netflix hit movie, we were introduced to a fearless creepy girl in the name of Wednesday Addams, who, despite her tense relationship with Nevermore’s Principal Weems, would no doubt miss her presence.
She died at the hands of someone we thought was so dear and special. Well, turns out we were mistaken.
However, in this upcoming season, Nevermore’s getting a new principal – set to be played by Steve Buscemi – and knowing just how much Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday hates authority figures, we can already tell their relationship is going to be like glass and sandpaper.
As we wait for the main event, let’s explore the side dishes and talk about what Buscemi recently said about the project.

Steve Buscemi recently shared his thoughts on what it was like working with Tim Burton on Wednesday Season 2. The two previously worked together on the fantasy film Big Fish.
Buscemi spoke about his role in the upcoming season of Wednesday with The Hollywood Reporter, sharing what it was like to film scenes with Jenna Ortega and Burton. "I can say that I loved working with Jenna. I had worked with her earlier in the year on Klara and the Sun in New Zealand, so I got to know her a little bit before then working with her on Wednesday," Buscemi revealed. "I also got to work with Tim Burton again. It had been over 20 years since we did Big Fish together."

A snail-obsessed introvert struggles with loneliness, hoarding and personal tragedy in Adam Elliot’s bleak stop-motion epic. Here’s our Memoir Of A Snail review.
Grace Pudel (Sarah Snook) is not one of life’s winners. Born with a cleft lip and the playground bullying that often comes with it, she spends a lonely, but contented childhood with her twin brother, Gilbert (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and paraplegic, alcoholic father, Percy (Dominique Pinon). When circumstances find her separated from both and sent to live with a pair of swingers in Canberra, she copes about as well as you’d expect.
Australian stop-motion whizz Adam Elliot’s sophomore feature is an Aardman tale with the edges left rough. The Claymation style is thick, dirty and often borderline disturbing – more in line with the genre’s uncanny origins than the higher framerate aesthetic coming out of the medium’s biggest players. Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and last year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.
We have previously heard that Ortega was being eyed for a superhero part, but Daniel Richtman is now reporting that the actress is being considered for a big Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.
Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation,...

The “Suffs” star has joined the project as Gussie opposite Paul Mescal, Beanie Feldstein, Mallory Bechtel and Ben Platt, TheWrap has learned. Filming will take place over the next two decades, similar to the director’s process for his Oscar-winning movie, “Boyhood.”
Producers include Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum, Ginger Sledge, Jonathan Marc Sherman, Mike Blizzard and Linklater. Some filming had already taken place as of late 2024, years after Blumhouse first acquired the rights in 2019.
The movie is an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s 1981 musical of the same name. The 2023 Broadway revival notably starred Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez and Daniel Radcliffe.
Cruz was most recently seen in the Tony-winning “Suffs” and is currently attached to the “Big Fish” industry reading led by Patrick Wilson.

When I was a kid, I wanted to watch every Alison Lohman movie I could find. The actor may not be a household name, but throughout the 2000s, she starred in some of the most interesting films being made, often opposite more experienced stars like Michelle Pfieffer, Nicolas Cage, and Ewan McGregor. Lohman always played characters younger than herself, and I mentally categorized her alongside other teen stars of the moment like AnnaSophia Robb and Keke Palmer -- even though she was born in 1979.
Sometimes, Lohman was cast as a cherubic beauty, but other times she played thornier characters, including troubled teens, child con artists, and, perhaps most famously, a "hag"-hating promotion-seeker. The actor had appeared in fewer than two dozen movies in her career, yet the majority of them were compelling in some way. Then, around 2009, she largely disappeared from the spotlight. Tim Burton is one of Hollywood's most exciting and unique filmmakers, with the famed director creating a lucrative niche for himself in the industry and emerging as the resident king of all things Gothic and macabre, becoming the mastermind behind hits like Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Big Fish, and Corpse Bride. With an illustrious career spanning four decades, Burton continues to dazzle and delight moviegoers with his whimsical blend of horror, humor, and fantasy.
Arguably one of Burton's most beloved and enduring classics is none other than the 1988 masterpiece Beetlejuice, which featured a tour de force performance by Michael Keaton in addition to those by Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, and Catherine O'Hara. The '80s gem is a masterclass in how to brilliantly combine genres and create an unforgettable cinematic experience, as proven by the fact that fans flocked to theaters in 2024 to witness the long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

Though Tim Burton has had a long career and his most successful film made a killing at the box office, it hasn't aged nearly as well as a 1999 made-for-tv movie that cost a fraction of Burton's budget. Tim Burton's movies have had wild swings in terms of success, with his heyday undoubtedly coming in the 1980s and early '90s, with classics like Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas (though Burton didn't direct), and Batman Returns. Since then, his career has been more sporadic, with highs like 2003's Big Fish, but also some real lows, like 2012's Dark Shadows, with the box office and critical reviews to match.
Recently, Burton has experienced a little bit of a career resurgence, thanks to trying something new while also returning to an old friend. The sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was a box office success, generating largely positive reviews and racking up $451 million on a budget of $100 million.

Disney Channel is the starting point for many of the entertainment industry's biggest stars. Ewan McGregor's spy thriller accurately depicts the Russian mafia in one clip that an expert calls the "most dangerous and the scariest." The Scottish actor is widely known for his portrayal of the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy – including The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith – which grossed nearly $2 billion combined at the box office from 1999 to 2005. In 2022, Ewan McGregor reprised the role in the Disney+ miniseries, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Outside Star Wars, McGregor has showcased his versatility in films from a wide range of genres, starting with his breakout role as a drug addict in Trainspotting. Tim Burton may have reawakened the Ghost With the Most in the recently released sequel to his 1988 comedy-horror film “Beetlejuice,” but that didn’t seem to convince the filmmaker to revisit some of his other classics.
During a Q&a at the Marrakech International Film Festival on Saturday (via IndieWire), Burton dismissed the possibility of developing a sequel to 1990’s “Edward Scissorhands,” which starred Johnny Depp as the titular role.
“There are certain films I don’t want to make a sequel to,” Burton said. “I didn’t want to make a sequel to that because it felt like a one-off thing. 25 years ago, Tim Burton released Sleepy Hollow, his eighth feature, and by far his scariest. A retelling of Washington Irving's classic early American ghost story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" starring Burton's frequent leading man Johnny Depp, it marked a significant shift in the director's evolution, pushing the envelope of onscreen violence both in his movies, and mainstream movies in general. While the beloved director has always used plenty of grotesque and dark imagery in his films, Sleepy Hollow is the closest he's come to making a true horror movie.
Since making his feature debut with Pee Wee's Big Adventure in 1985, Burton has consistently found ways to remake the Hollywood blockbuster in his own image. Here are 11 things I learned from the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice commentaries…
1. The film’s title was almost derived from a ’70s horror sequel.
Several other titles were considered for the long-awaited sequel, including call-backs to two 1970s horror sequels. Burton explains:

Tim Burton creates popular films that often cover the darker side of fantasy. He sets his films in towns where it's perpetually Halloween or haunted villages. Burton honed his own highly recognizable style over the years: the characters have large and sunken eyes and an elegantly disheveled Gothic style. Yet all of his films have a very human soul, and the heart of a romantic beast within many of his so-called monsters.
Dark fantasy is a great setting for some of the sweetest romances. These romances incorporate diverse tropes, from sweet first love to opposites attract to reincarnated lovers. Some couples are healthy and perfect together, while others are doomed, twisted, and tragic. Either way, they're memorable fan favorites for supernatural and Gothic romance audiences. They're a big part of what has made Burton so successful.

Some couples are healthy and perfect together, while others are doomed, twisted, and tragic. Either way, they're memorable fan favorites for supernatural and Gothic romance audiences. They're a big part of what has made Burton so successful.

Although Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was a huge box office hit, this ironically proves just how unlikely it is for director Tim Burton to make another $1 billion movie. By Beetlejuice Beetlejuice's ending, it was clear that the old Tim Burton was back. The unique fusion of Gothic horror elements and zany cartoon humor that had animated the director's best movies returned in the belated sequel, which could stand alongside Sleepy Hollow, Batman Returns, Big Fish, or the original Beetlejuice as one of his best. Despite Beetlejuice Beetlejuices plot holes, the movie brought back Burtons sense of fun.

Some movies are just made to entertain: to make audiences laugh, cheer, or escape from the world for an hour or two. But others stick with people long after the credits rolland they don't necessarily need to be the most complicated films of all-time. These thought-provoking films dont just keep your attention; they leave audiences reflecting on life, relationships, and what living really means. These are movies that challenge what humanity is meant to believe, make people look inward, or leave their viewers with open-ended conclusions that let each of us find our own meaning.
The films on this list address universal themes in complex ways, and they invite audiences to discover something new every time we revisit them. Some thought-provoking films center on themes of love, while others center on imposter syndrome.

In recent years, Broadway has begun shifting its focus toward a new means of attracting people to its theaters: adapting popular movies into live, showstopping musicals and plays. By capitalizing on the pre-existing fan bases of the films which inspired them, many of these shows have become hugely successful, both critically and commercially. After all, some beloved films just feel as though they were born to have their stories told on the stage.
Some of these movies-turned-Broadway-shows, however, have actually come as huge surprises to audiences, including the fans of the original films. To many, especially those not actively invested in the world of theatre, it can be difficult to envision how certain stories could be told on stage, both in a practical sense and in terms of their subject matter. Regardless of how successful they proved to be, these films defied expectations and experienced an exciting new life on a Broadway stage.

Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and this year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.
According to scooper Mttsh, Ortega is now in talks for an undisclosed Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.
Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation, and an untitled Trey Edward Shults film that will co-star The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan.

Will Smith and Steven Spielberg were on a similar wavelength in the 2000s. After he finished licking his wounds from 1999's "Wild Wild West," Big Willie was hungry to prove his mettle as a dramatic actor. Adapting a bit of a one-for-them-one-for-me mentality, Smith earned his first two acting Oscar nods for "Ali" and "The Pursuit of Happyness" in-between nodding his head as Agent J and tearing up the streets of Miami again as Mike Lowrey. Even his tentpoles started to get a little darker and heavier along the way, with the actor anchoring a big screen rendition of Richard Matheson's end-times sci-fi horror tale "I Am Legend" and playing a hard-edged, heavy-drinking superhero in "Hancock."
Spielberg, meanwhile, spent the first decade of the 21st century redefining his work. Really, there was very little he didn't try his hand at during this period, from crafting disquieting, noirish visions of...
