Eric Clapton: Nothing But the Blues

I cannot understand why the 2 previous reviewers did not mention the fact that this DVD looks like it was filmed off of a TV screen. Sound quality is barely acceptable. 5 stars given because of the performance and the historical significance.

This video shows Clapton at his best, playing the blues. He discusses who has influenced him throughout his career, w/audio and video clips of performances by Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, etc. (all the greats). It features the best guitar playing I've seen; particularly don't miss this version of "Have You Ever Loved A Woman" in the last 15 minutes of the tape... simply amazing!!!!!

At long last this film will be released on DVD/Blu-Ray/CD on 24 June 2022--some 27 years after it was filmed!

I watched it on Sky a couple of days ago --and wow, Clapton is on fire. I have never seen him play with such intensity and emotion.

If you love the blues, or even if you don't and wonder what all the fuss is about, I urge you to watch this film.

Along with Eric playing a live concert there is also footage of a lot of the old blues players such as Howlin' Wolf, B. B. King, T Bone Walker and others.

Eric's back-up band is wonderful especially the horn section and piano player.

He plays a variety of guitars but it isn't till he picks up his Gibson ES-335 that you wonder why he bothers to play anything else. Truly a match made in heaven.

Highly highly recommended.

This is a fantastic piece. It provided the genesis for Martin Scorcese's recent series on the blues; why couldn't it have been as good?

Anyway, this is just breathtaking, and any Clapton/blues fan should try and get a hold of a copy. His playing is incendiary, especially on 'Early in the morning', 'Groaning the blues', 'it hurts me too', and 'Ain't Nobody's Business', which starts off with just the piano and vocal, and Clapton finishes off with an amazing solo, just drenched in sweat.

Maybe in a few years, the record company will get its thumb out and release this.
