Lazy, alcoholic, and unemployed, Pratap meets and comes under the influence of journalist Mega Dixit, who is trying to make people of that community independent. Pratap Narayan Tilak, grandson of freedom fighter Bhishma Narayan Tilak, was caught red handed fooling his family indulging in antisocial activities, resulting in Bhishma Narayan's death and his mother Janki throwing him out. However, Pratap saved the life of Atul and was adopted by Atul's father, chawl owner Laxmi Das. Growing up, Pratap taught the ones around him to be independent, occasionally clashing with the honest journalist Megha Dixit to comical exchanges.
