Widowed and elderly industrialist Sulakshana Devi allows her business and estate to be taken care of by her nephew, Balwant. Shortly after her return from the overseas her only son, Ravi gets killed in a car accident planned by Balwant as he has an agenda of acquiring her estate and propriety. The news of Ravi's death devastates and leaves Sulakshana in a state of shock after which she recovers only to meet a pregnant woman named Kamini who claim that she is carrying Ravi's child. Sulakshana disbelieves this and asks Kamini to leave; after Kamini's departure one of Ravi's friend, Sanjay Gupta confirms the fact that Ravi and Kamini did have a relationship. Sulakshana then send her men to man-hunt for Kamini but to no avail. Several years later Suakshana is approached by a young woman named Seema who is claiming that she is Ravi's progeny only to be accepted by Sulakshana. But what Sulakshana does not know is that she will soon meet Seema's uncle who both plans to con her into blindly signing away all her property and estate in their name whiles on the other hand a male name Arun Kumar who is her new estate assistant and another fake who in reality is her real grandchild. Ravi was fond of making sketch of birds. Balwant and his assistant Hasmukh (Dinesh Hingoo) conspire to take control of Sulakshana's wealth and estate.

While returning from overseas, she is told that Ravi has met with an accident and has been killed. This news devastates her, but she soon recovers. Then a pregnant woman named Kamini (Bharati) approaches her and tells her that she is carrying Ravi's child. Kamini claims that Ravi dated her, and they had been intimate with each other. Sulakshana disbelieves her as Kamini had no proof of being with Ravi and has her thrown out. When Ravi's friend, Sanjay Gupta, confirms that Ravi was seeing Kamini, she sets out her men to search high and low for Kamini, but to no avail.

Meanwhile Kamini did not find any support from her friends and family. She gives birth to a baby in a government hospital. Many years pass as Sulakshana is still searching for Kamini.

Arun (Anil Kapoor) is a conman. He steals jewels from jewelry shop by posing as an inspector of the anti-corruption bureau, and by conducting raids on them on suspicion of buying and selling illegal gold. The owners of the shops know that half the gold in their shop is illegal and thus do not suspect the raid. Arun then walks away with the seized gold.

Seema (Madhuri) & uncle (Anupam Kher) are also a pair of con artists. Arun was hiding in Seema closet in her change room (after her stage performance), while escaping a jeweler he had robbed. While hidden, Arun learns that Seema and her uncle are going after Tara Jaisingh as their next target. Uncle says that Tara is a very charitable wealthy businesswoman, who loves to help the destitute and the needy. Her own father used to donate generously to charity hospitals while he was alive. Uncle reveals that Tara goes to the Tikamgarh holiday resort every year for a vacation. Arun reveals himself to Seema as a fellow conman while leaving her room.

Arun denotes a part of his earnings to his orphanage headed by Mr Sinha (Satyendra Kapoor). Meanwhile, Seema lives with her mother Kamini, who is known to her as Sharda.

Arun, Seema and uncle cross paths when both try to swindle Tara Jaisingh (Sonu Walia). Uncle's plan was to meet Tara as a doctor who has the passion to create a charitable hospital and lure Tara to make a sizable donation to that cause. Arun and Seema decide whoever gets 5 Lakhs from Tara first, wins.

Arun appears before Tara as a paraplegic called Devdas. He gains Tara's sympathy & says that only Dr Khatpatia can treat him for Rs 5 Lakhs. Tara offers to pay, but Devdas refuses the offer. Arun also sees Tara's aunt Sulakshana & decides that she will be his next target. Tara tells Devdas how Sulakshana is very wealthy but lives alone in Chandipur. Devdas says that once upon a time he used to love a girl named Rita Braganza. They were engaged to be married. Devdas says that he and Rita went to watch an India Vs Pakistan test match in their city, and at the end of 5 days, Rita ran away with Imran Khan. Since then, Devdas is not able to walk and had to get on a wheelchair.

Before Tara can pay, uncle arrives as Dr Khatpatia & lures Tara into thinking he will cure Devdas. By predicting Arun's moves uncle impresses Tara & gets her to pay up.

Uncle and Seems escape but are captured by police at airport (supposedly on complain by Tara) & thrown into cell with Arun. They become friends, bribe the officer to buy their freedom. Uncle & Seema leave only to come back & realize that the station & police were only a set & Arun had duped them to get the money.

Arun then goes to work on Sulakshana by posing himself as an unemployed but spirited man. He finds about Ravi & Sulakshana's search for her grandchild. Arun gets Seema to get job as a music teacher in one of Sulakshana's charity schools & slowly proves that Seema is her lost grandchild using Ravi's stolen artifacts from the mansion. Uncle becomes the new butler in the mansion. Balwant is suspicious but Arun manipulates him to keep him out of the way. Seema claims that Kamini is dead. Balwant is angry at both Seema and Arun & decides to find Kamini.

Tara comes by to visit her aunt & Arun convinces her that Shulakshana has gone mad & Dr Khatpatia & his assistant Jadibuti are there to help treat her. Then Arun & Seema fall in love & Sulakshana finds out. She agrees to get them married & even decides to split her estate 50-50 in both. Arun & Seema are ashamed of taking advantage of her simple soul. Meanwhile Balwant traces Kamini's maternity hospital & finds she had a boy. Then Balwant meets Tara & understands Arun & Seema are con artists.

Finally, Kamini meets the orphanage director Mr Sinha & reveals that she put her boy in their crib & commits suicide only to be saved by Anand Babu who had lost her wife in childbirth to Seema. So, she stayed with Anand Babu & became a mother to Seema. Mr Sinha reveals Arun is her real son.

Seema had sent Kamini a photo of her fiance Arun which is the same as the photo Mr Sinha shared of her son. So Kamini heads to Chandipur to meet her son. Uncle finds that Balwant plans to kill Shulakshana & then kill Arun & Seema. Arun replaces his bullets with blanks & then pretends to go along to expose Balwants true feelings for Shulakshana.

But then Arun & Seema admit their fraud & are prepared to go to jail after returning everything Sulakshana gave them. But then Kamini arrives & identifies Arun as her son.
