Paramount Pictures has delayed the release of “The Running Man” by one week to Nov. 14. It was previously scheduled for Nov. 7.
Glen Powell stars in Edgar Wright’s remake as the lead of the sci-fi action film. Based on the 1982 novel by Stephen King, “The Running Man” takes place in a dystopian society where contestants on a game show, called “runners,” are pit against murderous killers or “hunters.”
The film’s official synopsis reads that the Runners “must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Powell) is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian, to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite — and a threat to the entire system.

With Ballerina now available to watch at home, I recently sat down with director Len Wiseman (Underworld; Live Free or Die Hard; Total Recall) to talk about directing the first spin-off set in the World of John Wick.
He breaks down crafting Eve's character with his Academy Award-nominated star Ana de Armas (Knives Out; No Time to Die; Ghosted) and designing extreme action sequences that feel clever and realistic—especially when your hero is outnumbered and outmuscled—and why her vulnerability was an asset.
He also took me inside the film’s fire-and-ice motif, crafting a flamethrower-versus-flamethrower duel that feels like a rage-fueled fever dream, and weaving John Wick into the story with actual purpose.

Noah Hawley brings a classic sci-fi horror franchise to the small screen with the lavish-looking Alien: Earth. Here’s our spoiler-free review of episodes 1 and 2:
Television spin-offs from hit genre films haven’t always had a particularly good hit-rate. RoboCop, Highlander and Total Recall all got their own small-screen shows years ago, and while there was entertainment to be found in them, it’s probably fair to say that their meagre budgets meant they couldn’t always compare to the movies on which they were based.
This is the 21st century, though: an era in which TV shows are given a level of financing and visual polish that the makers of, say, Highlander: The Series could only have dreamed of. We’re also living through a period in which TV now attracts the kind of talent that would have been making mainstream movies in the 80s and 90s. In other words,...

Sharon Stone’s Net Worth Explored. (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Sharon Stone has long been open about the unpredictable nature of fame and fortune. While she stands among Hollywood’s most celebrated stars with an impressive net worth, her financial journey has been far from smooth.
The Basic Instinct actress has faced staggering expenses tied to the demands of stardom — from high-end security and management teams to the constant social expectations of picking up extravagant dinner tabs. Over the years, these pressures, coupled with personal and professional challenges, have seen her wealth rise and fall in dramatic fashion, making her story as compelling off-screen as it is on film.

Although it remains one of her best and most important films, making Casino wasn't easy for Sharon Stone. It was an opportunity to star alongside an actor she'd always admired, and she gave a masterful performance as her character, Ginger McKenna, spiraled into self-destruction. However, the gangster classic wasn't an effortless ride for the Academy Award nominee because her partner in the film, Robert De Niro, may have "crossed a line" by challenging her.
Stone, who will soon appear in the action sequel Nobody 2, recently spoke with Business Insider about her prolific career, which has found her playing memorable characters across genres in films such as Basic Instinct, Total Recall, and (of course) Casino. When talking about the production of the Martin Scorsese crime drama, Stone recalled a particular exchange with De Niro. She was an admirer of his craft, but it was also hard to act opposite him.

Timo Tjahjanto is quickly becoming one of the most exciting action movie directors in the game following the likes of The Night Comes for Us and The Shadow Strays. And he has revealed his unexpected choice for who could play the next Batman.
The filmmaker will next join forces with Jason Statham for the highly anticipated The Beekeeper 2, but, before that, he is teaming up with Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad star Bob Odenkirk for another action thriller follow-up, Nobody 2. Odenkirk revealed himself as one of the most mild-mannered action heroes to ever hit the big screen, and Tjahjanto thinks the Emmy Award winner has all the qualities necessary to portray an aged Dark Knight.
“You know, there's something about him, how he delivered his line. How he works with his face and like, he's just a very moody and dark sort of character. I'm not saying the real person.

There’s one 87-year-old legend who might be the perfect fit for the upcoming Helldivers 2 movie: Paul Verhoeven. While details about the adaptation are still unknown and no director has been confirmed, Verhoeven feels like a match made in heaven.
The legendary Dutch filmmaker is known for his mastery over satire and violence, both of which perfectly define what Helldivers 2 is all about.
To top it off, Verhoeven directed Starship Troopers, the movie that influenced the Helldivers franchise. So, he might be able to perfectly introduce the game’s chaotic world into an unforgettable cinematic experience. If Sony hasn’t already picked their director, he’s the perfect choice.

During the back half of the 1980s, there was this glamorous, extravagantly talented actor who kept turning up in exploitation movies and pumping them full of an erotic verve they generally didn't deserve. There were any number of beautiful, desirable ladies who could provide the va-va-voom films like "King Solomon's Mines," "Above the Law," and "Action Jackson" required, but the path to stardom has always been different for women, so here was Sharon Stone blowing everyone else who shared a frame with her straight off the screen.
It took no less a cinematic genius than Paul Verhoeven to realize that Stone had supernova star power. After a test run in "Total Recall," he unleashed her on filmgoers the world over with the most stylishly sleazy studio movie ever made in "Basic Instinct." 1987’s The Running Man is definitely a cult hit among Arnold Schwarzenegger’s movies, but it tends to get overlooked among some of the other classics he made. After all, it came out the same year as Predator, and let’s face facts—it’s no Predator. Perhaps that’s why Schwarzenegger himself once said it was the perfect movie of his to be remade. Everyone involved with the new version—especially Edgar Wright—would probably say it’s less a remake and more a fresh adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, which he wrote under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.
Based on the trailer alone, it does seem to be a somewhat more faithful adaptation, retaining an element that was ditched from the Schwarzenegger movie: Ben Richards is more impoverished, blacklisted from his profession, and trying to raise money to treat his ill daughter. It’s funny how some of the most important and beloved movies of all time can come from stories that aren’t quite as celebrated or well read, and I’m not just talking about movies from 1982. The Thing certainly falls under that category because while Who Goes There is certifiably a great sci-fi story and there have been at least 3 movies based on it, The Thing and John Carpenter will live on far longer than Who Goes There and John W. Campbell. While that certainly doesn’t extend to all famous authors, Stephen King’s name is etched into history and 75% of his adaptations will either be forgotten or redone multiple times over, there’s also that middle ground. Phillip K. Dick has more than his fair share of adaptations out there, but his adaptations typically turn out higher profile than the author or his original works. Blade Runner...

Looks like Antonio Banderas is trading in his black Corinthian leather boots for the wide, open sea because the longtime actor is set to lead a new action-packed thriller titled Above and Below. According to Variety, Banderas will star alongside Disney alum Laura Marano, who famously starred in the 2011 Disney Channel series Austin & Ally and the 2013 series Liv and Maddie. Marano also appeared in 2016's Oscar-nominated film, Lady Bird. As stated by the outlet, Banderas and Marano will star beside Christina Ochoa and Mario Tardón (Risen). Variety also reported that filming for the upcoming action flick has officially begun in Spain.
Though Above and Below is still in early production, the film is described as an “action-packed thriller, full of twists,” so it sounds like it will be a certified must-watch for movie-goers. The movie is set to follow a group of friends who set out for a memorable vacation.

Perhaps no one else in pop culture has better embodied the American Dream than Arnold Schwarzenegger. Coming from a small town in Austria and growing up under the rule of a volatile father, Arnold Schwarzenegger knew he had to leave and become something better – and we can thank film for bringing him to America.
But it’s not traditional film we’re talking about here (although Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first memories of seeing a movie were of then-quintessential American actor John Wayne), but rather reels of stock footage and the like that he was made to watch while in school. Science fiction cinema has long held a hallowed space in our culture as a window into tomorrow, a genre where imaginative minds dare to envision the worlds we might one day inhabit. Yet, to label these films as mere fortune-tellers is to miss their profound, often startlingly direct role in shaping the very future they depict. The silver screen has functioned not as a passive crystal ball, but as a vibrant, chaotic, and astonishingly effective cultural research and development lab. It is a space where future technologies are prototyped in the public imagination, where their ethical and societal implications are debated before the first circuit is soldered, and where a visual and conceptual language is forged for the innovators who will eventually turn fiction into fact.
This symbiotic relationship between cinematic fiction and technological reality unfolds primarily in two ways. The first is direct inspiration, a clear causal chain where...

Arnold Schwarzenegger is famous for his action-packed roles in movies like The Terminator, Predator, and Total Recall. But surprisingly, none of those films brought him the most money. That honor goes to the 1988 comedy Twins, where he starred alongside Danny DeVito.
In a recent interview on Watch What Happens Live, Schwarzenegger revealed that Twins earned him over $40 million, more than any of his action movies. The reason behind this big payday was a clever deal he made with DeVito and director Ivan Reitman.
Instead of taking a regular salary, they chose to share in the film’s profits. Schwarzenegger explained, “We got no money for the salary but ownership with a piece of the back end. It was fantastic. We went all the way to the bank with that.”

I said last fall I was dreading the release of Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man because I liked the Arnold Schwarzenegger original so much, and based on past remakes of Arnie films (like Total Recall) it probably wouldn’t be nearly as fun. With the release of the first trailer I guess I have to take that back. While Wright’s Running Man has a more grim backstory (in line with the Stephen King book), it has Not lost the goofy sensibility, thank heavens. In a dystopian future the country is a wasteland ruled by a dictator. Ben Richards, our main character, is unemployed and looking for a way to get his sick daughter treatment…but the only way is to volunteer for The Running Man, America’s favorite gladiator game show. In the Arnie movie, this show took place in an arena. In this version, the Entire World is an arena!

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Big Screen Comeback ( Photo Credit – Flickr )
The second season of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s spy action-comedy series Fubar premiered earlier this month on Netflix. Although many fans were excited to watch the Terminator star on the small screen, the show didn’t find favor with several critics. Overall, it has a modest 48% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score. His last theatrical release was Terminator: Dark Fate (2019), which unfortunately underperformed at the box office, falling short of expectations.

It looks like the iconic action hero is still searching for the perfect project that can be his true big-screen comeback. And we might just have the perfect idea. No, it’s not another Terminator or Predator sequel (we’ve had plenty of those). Taika Waititi and numerous other directors tried and failed to adapt Akira for Warner Bros. Here’s why it may have been a good thing that it didn’t happen.
After almost a quarter of a century of ideas, concepts and planning, Warner Bros has finally decided to draw a line under Akira – its long-planned adaptation of a much-loved manga series and animated film.
We’ve heard stories about development hell before – the years of rewrites and false starts it took before Total Recall finally happened in 1990. The versions of Dune and Planet Of The Apes that were worked on but never emerged. Even compared to those, though, it’s hard to think of many other productions that have had so much time and money spent on them with no publicly viewable end result.

If you want to see Arnold Schwarzenegger get his ass to Mars, you'd better get your ass to Pluto. Pluto TV, the free, ad-supported streaming service, is streaming the mind-bending 1990 science fiction classic Total Recall starting on July 1. Total Recall was adapted from the 1966 Philip K. Dick short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale," and lingered in development Hell for over fifteen years. It went through forty script drafts before it was finally brought to the big screen by RoboCop director Paul Verhoeven, who brought his trademark black humor and satirical flourishes to the film.
Boasting eye-popping special effects and some of the most hyper-violent action of Schwarzenegger's career, Total Recall was one of the most expensive movies ever made at the time, with a budget of $48–80 million Usd; however, it didn't hold that record for long, as the $94 million Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which also starred Schwarzenegger,...

Back in 1995, director Paul Verhoeven and screenwriter Joe Eszterhas, the creative team behind the blockbuster erotic thriller "Basic Instinct," reunited to deliver another stylishly sleazy provocation -- one that would use its easily won Nc-17 rating as a marketing dare to the movie-going public. This new film would make "Basic Instinct" look like an episode of "Dragnet." It would slither into theaters teeming with sex and violence, simultaneously turning you on and shocking your conscience. Indeed, motion pictures would never be the same again after audiences got a load of "Showgirls."
That critics would break out the lead pipes to bash the holy hell out of "Showgirls" was a given. They'd tired of Eszterhas's tawdry tales and were offended that he was breaking industry records with each spec script sale. They'd written him off as a low-aiming hawk and wanted nothing more than to see him fall flat on his face.

Freejack is a 1992 science fiction action flick in which a Formula One driver explodes into a gigantic Nissan advertisement in a gnarly mid-air collision, only to have his body stolen just before impact by a time-traveling Mick Jagger. All this in a film that once had the mind of a 1959 thinking-man’s pontification on the soul, that now has the body of an Arnold Schwarzenegger brouhaha. Only it stars Emilio Estevez. That’s right. The Mighty Duck man, I swear to God! If that’s not enough weirdness to satiate you, this story also involves a classic Spielberg/Hooper “who actually directed this” mystery, actresses replaced mid-shoot because they don’t make the producers feel all funny deep down inside, and even Sir Anthony Hopkins talking a little sh*t. This is What Happened to Freejack.

Emmy-winning HBO series The White Lotus has seen its share of breakout stars, including Jennifer Coolidge, Sydney Sweeney, and Theo James. Season 3 of The White Lotus has launched another breakout star whose father just so happens to be a 7-time Mr. Olympia, former governor, and an iconic action movie star, and whose mother is an award-winning journalist and the niece of former President John F. Kennedy.
Yes, I’m talking about the breakout star of The White Lotus season 3: Patrick Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger's role in The White Lotus as the protein shakes-drinking douchebag nepo-baby Saxon Ratliff may have some type-casting comparisons; however, his performance was a subtle, complex nuanced tour de force of angst, vulnerability, and family loyalty that certainly surprised fans and critics alike. It would not surprise me if Schwarzenegger were honored with multiple nominations during next year’s award season.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has responded to his returning Netflix show getting compared to his $379 million action comedy directed by James Cameron. Schwarzenegger's best movies have seen him in serious action roles, from The Terminator franchise to standalone films like The Running Man, Total Recall, and Commando. One of his most defining traits as an action star is how fitting he is in a starring role, making him perfect for a number of high-octane action movies. In recent years, this has included The Expendables movies and other standalone thrillers.

Like most recognizable movie stars, it took many years for Charlize Theron to become an overnight sensation. Her first film role was that of an unnamed, non-speaking extra in James D.R. Hickox's 1995 slasher sequel "Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest," a film Theron remembers well. She chased that with the 1996 mid-budget neo-noir "2 Days in the Valley," in which she played the girlfriend of a gangster portrayed by James Spader. With her foot in the studio door, she began turning up in multiple high-profile nationwide releases like "Trial and Error," and "That Thing You Do!," but she really caught a lot of attention for her impassioned performance in Taylor Hackford's 1997 demonic thriller "The Devil's Advocate." After that, she was pretty much a celebrity. Indeed, she even played a celebrity in Woody Allen's 1998 film "Celebrity."

Arnold Schwarzenegger's acting resume is chock-full of iconic films, from his star-making performance in the original Terminator to the first Predator movie and the one-liner-packed Commando. Picking a definitive best title of his isn't easy, but one that commonly rises to the top is the all-time great sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Building on the tension-filled original, T2 casts the Governator as the T-800 once again, but he's instead a reprogrammed model sent to protect John Connor from the more advanced and frightening T-1000. It's a film as charming as it is thrilling, with John and the T-800 forming a surprising bond that lasts throughout their journey to save the future. For Schwarzenegger's Fubar co-star, Travis Van Winkle, it's not his best work, and he gave an entirely different answer on Screen Rant's Debunking AI series.

Initially, it was assumed that Dante wanted to cause the collapse of the American economy, which would trigger a domino effect and lead to the destruction of the global economy. How? By attacking the four main points of the power grid that provided electricity to the United States of America, which were located in Kodiak, Litchfield, New Mexico, and Colorado. Dante, with the help of his trusted aide, Greta, had managed to take down three of them, thereby making the Carson Hydroelectric Dam his last target. Ana de Armas’ Ballerina received mixed reactions from fans and critics, with some calling it an uninspired action franchise feeding off John Wick’s popularity. A spinoff only works when it distinguishes itself from the original material, and director Len Wiseman insisted this is what he did with the movie.
Wiseman is no stranger to the action genre. He’s known for helming Kate Beckinsale’s Underworld, Bruce Willis’ Live Free or Die Hard, and Colin Farrell’s Total Recall, so Ballerina should have been easy-peasy for him. The mission was to make it stand out and not look like a rip-off of John Wick.

You have your monsters like zombies, vampires, and werewolves and then you have your monsters like Dr. Frankenstein, Ardeth Bay, and Jack Griffin. While we may gripe that Werewolves and certainly Mummies don’t get nearly the representation they are due, they still show up at a higher frequency than we give them credit for either in things like The Monster Squad or their own series like the Brendan Fraser Mummy films or the Underworld flicks. The two classic series monsters that most seem to be forgotten about either with their film output or quality of roles are undoubtedly The Phantom of the Opera and The Invisible Man. Despite the fact that critics lambasted it at the time of its release, and audiences learned to hate it over time (with a small percentage who now treat it as a cult horror), I will die as a "Hollow Man" fan one day. Paul Verhoeven's 2000 feature is a bonkers, pseudo-serious B horror that slowly turns into a devilish guilty pleasure over its nearly two-hour runtime.
However, it was perhaps fair to ask at the time: Did it live up to the high standards the Dutch director established with all-time classics such as "Robocop," "Starship Troopers," or "Total Recall"? It did not. Has it offered any profound message under its CGI and science-heavy context whatsoever? Nope. Was it mean and unmitigated fun for young horror lovers? Hell yeah! Did it have Kevin Bacon embracing his inner villain and donning a s***-eating grin all the time? It sure did.

Ballerina director Len Wiseman shared one of his original ideas for the John Wick spinoff’s ending sequences, which would have introduced another character. The filmmaker is no stranger to the action genre, after previously directing two Underworld movies, 2007’s Live Free or Die Hard, and 2012’s Total Recall.
During a recent interview with EW, Wiseman opened up about his alternate ending idea, which involves Eve’s supposedly dead mother. Ballerina director Len Wiseman clarifies the misconceptions that have circulated about the film's reshoots and exactly how extensive they were. Ballerina is the latest entry in the John Wick franchise, with Underworld director Len Wiseman stepping in as director from franchise mainstay Chad Stahelski. Around 2024, it was reported that Ballerina was undergoing numerous reshoots after disappointment among Lionsgate executives that it was not living up to the franchise's potential and that Stahelski had been brought in to oversee them.
Wiseman spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about how Ballerina did not have reshoots. Instead, they filmed more scenes they initially had to cut due to budget concerns after Lionsgate saw a draft of the film. Wiseman comments on both him and John Wick director Chad Stahelski's frustration with how the additional photography was reported in the media, which turned into a bigger story than it was. Wiseman said:
"We [Wiseman and Stahelski] were both frustrated about it.

There’s no denying that Lionsgate didn’t put all its energy into saving From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. The action spin-off seemed to be in trouble just last year, when reports of extensive re-shoots first emerged. Ben Affleck made a sci-fi movie in 2003 that has since been forgotten, but 22 years later, the rarely-seen film is a streaming hit on Netflix. Even as his two-decades-old science fiction effort finds a new audience on the world’s biggest streamer, the Oscar-winning actor, producer and writer is enjoying the success of his latest release, The Accountant 2, which grossed $101 million worldwide in its theatrical run, and is sure to be even more of a hit on streaming.
It is no surprise at all to see Affleck headlining a thriller like The Accountant 2, after his efforts with films like the first Accountant, The Town, Argo, Triple Frontier and others. Yeah, I'm thinking spoiler warnings are back. Continue reading only after watching "Ballerina".
Finally, over a decade after the first "John Wick" movie arrived and promptly rewrote how we look at action movies, the series has experienced its first big-screen expansion into franchise territory. But, that changed when the first film went on to earn a worldwide gross of $86.1 million. Subsequently, three sequels saw the franchise take in over one billion dollars worldwide so the probability of a spinoff series appearing seemed inevitable.
