Avis à la une
Yor, the Hunter from the Future (1983)
** (out of 4)
Our story is set during the prehistoric days when cavemen and dinosaurs are still running wild. A mysterious blonde man named Yor (Reb Brown) winds up in this era and soon falls in love with a woman (Corinne Clery) after protecting her father (Luciano Pigozzi) from a dinosaur attack. Soon Yor begins to question where he comes from.
YOR, THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE comes from director Antonio Margheriti who made numerous films that are still enjoyed today including CASTLE FO BLOOD, ALIEN FROM THE DEEP, CANNIBAL AOOCALYPSE and THE LONG HAIR OF DEATH among others. This film has gained the reputation of being one of the most entertaining bad movies ever made and I think it really lives up to its reputation.
There's no question that this is a bad movie because of some really embarrassing performances as well as some really bad special effects but at the same time you have to take your hat off towards its director because it seems he was smart enough to know they didn't have the money to pull this off so he made it as entertaining as he could. This means pretty much throw everything out there and hope something sticks and sure enough it does!
There are some really fun moments here and especially the various dinosaur attacks. The dinosaurs look incredibly fake but the film pushes its PG-rating with some gory death scenes and the opening fight between Yor and the dinosaur was classic. There are some more good battles throughout the film that are highly entertaining as well. Then you've got the cavemen and their apperances, which is another major plus.
One shouldn't go to YOR, THE HUNTER OF THE FUTURE and expect some Kubrick film. The film is a very low-budget action movie that works well because of how campy it is and it's certainly worth watching.

Yor is the hunter from the future. He's a simple tribesman/He-man warrior who leads a village of displaced tribes people to the promise land. Along the way Yor slays a dinosaur, fights evil Morlocks, glides on a Giant bat, fights some alien goons who get in his way and matches wits with Darth Vader's brother. Bad film that none of the actors take seriously (except Yor). Will Yor lead the people to the promise land and find out the meaning behind that funky gold medallion that he wears around his neck? Go out and Get Yor!! I wish I could see the original eight hour version shot for European television. When will this Drive-In gem ever be released on video? Who knows.

"Yor: Hunter From the Future" is one of the most underrated films of the last nine thousand years. A key inspiration for such amazing works as "American Beauty" and "Hollywood Harry", this science fiction epic deserves to be rediscovered. The story follows a shy, and stupid blonde man who wanders through a prehistoric wasteland. As he encounters various villages and communities, he manages to destroy everything in his wake and ruin everyone's lives. The last thirty minutes are a revelation as our hero, his love interest, and some fat shirtless guy (who I still think is Orson Welles) are transported into space. There they fight a bunch of robots and shoot laser beams. Seriously, gang, if you want a film that will make you want to kill someone, then this is for you. Brilliant direction, acting, and writing all around. Best line: "DAMN TALKING BOX!!!!" Yor is played by an actor who never got his due in bad porn. The special effects blow Lord of the Rings out of the dork shelf at the rental store. You're going to love this movie so much you will want to slap yourself and hope that it isn't a dream.
Nine out of five stars.

Now here is a movie that gets a horrible rap, for reasons I can't fathom. Sure it's cheap, but at least it moves quickly. Yor is a strapping caveman type who runs from adventure to adventure, battling cool dinosaur puppets, desert zombie hordes, sex hungry ape men and more. Reb Brown certainly has the acting range of a baked potato, but Yor isn't exactly deep material.
Corinne Cleri is very stunning in her little cavegirl outfit, and when John Steiner comes in to explain it all, you can't help laughing.
Look for the funniest trapeze stunt you'll ever see a G.I. Joe perform!

An Italian produced sci-fi/prehistoric adventure; a strangely original blend of ideas. I like the locations (shot in Turkey I believe); you actually feel like you're in some prehistoric land. This film's got heart and soul; the actors are so sincere; they obviously thought they were doing something important. This unintentionally funny and yet boring film has scantily clad women; club wielding neanderthals, androids, laser battles; a spaceship and dinosaur/monster thingy's (not badly done considering the budget and no CGI). And Roa played by the beautiful Ayshe Gul (as mysterious as the film itself); what happened to her? The ending leaves room for a sequel! Ha ha. Did anyone seriously think there was going to be a sequel? The synthesizer music's great too, as is the theme song: Yor's world! He's the man!

- AnecdotesThis was broadcast as a mini-series in Italy, using a lot of footage that never made it to the theatrical release.
- GaffesYor rips his stolen pendant from Ukan's neck, apparently breaking the string. As he and Kalaa flee, the pendant is nowhere to be seen. After they cross the pit of bones, Yor is suddenly wearing the pendant again, with the string inexplicably intact.
- Crédits fousMany of the Turkish cast members' names are misspelled.
- Versions alternativesThe director's cut for theatrical release is 98 minutes, from the original four-part Italian television series, running 200 minutes (50 minute episodes), currently rarely shown in late-night shows. VHS and DVD copies usually are cut to 88 minutes or less.
