Sailors Don't Care

Painfully bad comedy in which Tom Gamble and Edward Rigby play an incompetent father and son who join the river patrol service and uncover a spy ring. Not one laugh to be found anywhere. At least a young Michael Wilding looks amused.

Garrulous and unfunny. The only moment of amusement furnished by this amateurish little potboiler is the perfunctory sketch of Hitler briefly seen on the wall of the back room were the enemy agent keeps his wireless which looks as if it was dashed off in about five minutes (which it probably was). The impersonation of Lord Haw Haw heard on the radio is down to the same dismal standard.

It's strange though to hear Jean Gillie at one point croaking the song rendered notorious by Maggie Smith in 'Oh! What a Lovely War'.
