Image
Exclusive: Florence Longpré, a multi-hyphenate widely regarded as one of the most distinctive voices in Canadian television, has signed with Curate for management after winning the Audience Award at Series Mania 2025 for her latest series, Empathy (Empathie).

An actress, writer, and creator, Longpré first broke out in Québec with her performance in the comedy series Like-moi!, before pivoting toward creating for television. Her breakout series Can You Hear Me? (M’entends-tu?) is available on Netflix worldwide, and her subsequent series Audrey’s Back (Audrey est revenue) sold in multiple territories.

Currently developing her first English-language television project, Longpré’s work has also earned honors at Canneseries and the Rockie Awards. She continues to be represented in Québec by Agence Corinne Giguère.

“This ain’t a Country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album,” Queen Bey shared online before the release of her critically acclaimed Renaissance follow-up, Cowboy Carter. On the heels of topping Billboard’s country charts — and making history as the first Black woman to score a Number One country album — Beyoncé dropped Cowboy Carter on vinyl, weeks after its release date.

The Bear Season 3 Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play
Image
The Bear season 3 picks up where season 2 left off, telling the story of the titular restaurant set against a varied soundtrack consisting of many artists and songs both new and old. Since The Bear season 2's dramatic ending, audiences have been eagerly anticipating the continuation of creator Christopher Storer's intensely human story. The Bear tells tales of high-end dining and Michelin stars but is at its best when focusing on the people at the center of those stories, brought to life by The Bear season 3's excellent cast.

As of The Bear season 3's ending, each character receives their due share of screentime as they navigate work life, personal issues, and deep-rooted trauma against the backdrop of fine dining. Oftentimes, as a way to offset the emotionally heavy storylines of the show, Storer wisely integrates various songs from a vast collection of artists, as was the case with The Bear season 2's soundtrack.

Verizon Revamps Logo, Adds Discounted Streaming Deals for Home Internet Customers
Image
Verizon has introduced a glowing “V” in its new corporate logo — its biggest redesign in more than two decades — and is launching a new set of discounted streaming options for home broadband customers.

The telco’s myHome program, patterned on its myPlan mobile offering, provides mix-and-match flexibility for home internet, live TV, entertainment and connected home offerings. Verizon says the pricing for myHome will be guaranteed for up to four years, with “no hidden fees” and no equipment charges.

Verizon’s myHome lets consumers choose a Fios, 5G Home or Lte Home internet plan. They can then choose a live TV option — either Fios TV (if available) or YouTube TV — or not. Then, they can select content streaming service add-ons for $10 per month, which is cheaper than if they were purchased separately: Netflix and Max (with ads), the Disney Bundle, YouTube Premium and Walmart+ membership with an included Paramount+ subscription.

Flo Effortlessly Honor Old-School R&b With the Help of Missy Elliott on ‘Fly Girl’
Image
The girls of Flo are bringing back the beauty of early aughts R&b. On Thursday, the British trio — Renée Downer, Stella Quaresma, and Jorja Douglas — released their old-school R&b-infused single “Fly Girl,” featuring an iconic verse from Missy Elliott herself.

“‘Fly Girl’ is all about confidence, good vibes and feeling your best. It’s a lively, feel-good song that still incorporates clever lyrics and fire vocals, if we do say so ourselves,” the group said in a statement. “It’s quite literally a perfect fusion of old-school meets modern-day R&b,...

Hit Canadian Mystery Series ‘Aller Simple’ to Be Distributed by Oble (Exclusive)
Image
French production and distribution firm Oble is to handle international licensing of Canadian hit drama series “Aller Simple” or “No Return.”

Produced by French-Canadian firm Sphere Media, the six-episode psychological thriller premiered on prime-time earlier this year in Canada and has been a hit with critics and audiences. It plays on Noovo, where it has been the most watched drama in the channel’s history, and is available before linear broadcast via subscription on Crave TV.

Written by Annie Pierard, Bernard Dansereau and Etienne Pierard-Dansereau, who all previously worked on Sphere’s “Epidemie” (aka “The Outbreak”), the show sees six complete strangers; a former policeman, an art-dealer, a retired teacher, a marketing director, a criminal lawyer and a businesswoman, en-route to a reclusive billionaire’s home when their helicopter makes an emergency landing deep in the forest. Having survived intact, they stumble across a fishing camp. But disturbing incidents suggest...

Florence Longpré Scores a Triple, Stars in Clever Drama ‘Audrey’s Back’ at Canneseries
Image
Québécois auteur Florence Longpré has scored a triple, landing her newest series “Aubrey’s Back” in the main competition at Canneseries after enjoying selections at both the Berlinale Series Market and Series Mania with her tragic comedy “Last Summer of the Raspberries.” Written during the Covid-19 lockdowns, the new series follows Audrey, played by Longpré, a young woman emerging from a decades long coma following a traumatic brain injury.

The series was co-authored by Guillaume Lambert (“Adulthood”) and their collaboration carries the story forward in this heartfelt journey of rediscovery.

The first Canadian series selected in long form competition at Canneseries, “Audrey’s Back” is produced by Pixcom’s Nicola Merola, Charles Lafortune, and Marie-Ève Pelletier. Former collaborator Guillaume Lonergan directs the series, having also directed Lambert’s series “Adulthood,” which was nominated for the International Emmys. Original score is by Alexandra Stréliski. Beta Film will handle international distribution for the series,...

Jodie Whittaker
Doctor Who: the Thirteenth Doctor’s Character Arc is Too Little Too Late
Jodie Whittaker
With two episodes left before she regenerates, we’re only now starting to see the Thirteenth Doctor’s character arc forming: like many Doctors, her whimsy is a front masking a more serious flaw. In this case, it’s that she talks a lot but says little. She’s inactive, preferring to shut people out rather than talk about what’s bothering her (she’s repeatedly snippy in response to Yaz asking reasonable questions). This started to change at the end of ‘Flux’ and during the course of ‘Eve of the Daleks’, which forced her to reach out to everyone in order to save their lives. At this point in her story though, the development feels too little too late.

Have you ever been in a work situation when someone insists on everything going through them, but they’re so busy and/or distracted that this takes forever and they never reply to your emails?...

Doctor Who: Flux Episode 3 Review – Once, Upon Time
Image
Doctor Who Series 13 Episode 3 Review

Warning: this Doctor Who: Flux review contains spoilers.

Well, I wasn’t expecting that.

I’d initially intended to start this review comparing ‘Once, Upon Time’to the deliberately ambiguous ‘Listen’, the Peter Capaldi serial that left whether the ‘monster’ even existed up to the audience. Then I thought, no, it’s actually more like ‘Can You Hear Me?’, co-written by Chris Chibnall and featuring the same kind of nightmare-slash-memory scenarios for the companions, underscored by a pair of creepy immortal villains.

After more consideration, though, those comparisons are mostly surface-level. For one thing, although a Weeping Angel gets tossed into the mix and their very nature tends to invoke a lot of jump scares, this episode isn’t particularly frightening. It is incredibly dreamlike, though. That combination of randomly flitting between different places and times of day without being fully aware that you’re doing so,...

Doctor Who: Why Jo Martin’s Ruth Should Be The Next Doctor
Chris Chibnall at an event for Doctor Who (2005)
The BBC recently announced Jodie Whitaker, along with current showrunner Chris Chibnall, will be departing Doctor Who. Their departure will occur after Season 12 premieres later in 2021 plus three specials to air during 2022. Speculation over who will be the next Doctor is inevitable, but this time around there is a candidate already waiting in the wings who passed their audition with flying colors: Jo Martin.

Ruth Doctor, officially known as the Fugitive Doctor, first appeared last season in the episode “Fugitive of the Judoon.” Her character’s initial cover backstory was immediately endearing to many Doctor Who fans, as we meet the Fugitive Doctor when she is working as a tour guide in Gloucester. In reality, she is a Time Lord on the run from Gallifreyan authorities. Although her initial appearances were a plot device and admittedly conceived as a random afterthought, bringing Martin back for a full series run will...

New on Netflix: November 2020 Releases
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell in Les chroniques de Noël 2 (2020)
November is among the least respected months on the calendar. Falling between objectively the two best holidays, November is usually all about recovering from the spookies of Halloween while getting ready for the good vibes the holiday season. For its new releases of November 2020, Netflix has decided to just go ahead and get Christmas over with.

Netflix has already released a list of all its holiday offerings for November and December, and it’s those holiday offerings that take the most prominence this month. The biggest project of all of these is undoubtedly The Christmas Chronicles 2, which premieres on Nov. 25. In this holiday sequel, Kurt Russell reprises his role as Hot Santa Claus who must save the season once again.

On the non-holiday side of things, Netflix’s Emmy-winning series The Crown returns for season 4 on Nov. 15. And speaking of things that desperately want to win awards, Ron Howard...

Jessica Barden in The End of the F***ing World (2017)
New on Netflix UK November 2020
Jessica Barden in The End of the F***ing World (2017)
November is the last month of the year for sensible viewing, before our TV screens become full-time broadcasters of golden retrievers saving Christmas and Will Ferrell wearing tights. Take the opportunity then, to get some good stuff in before the festivities.

In terms of good stuff, Netflix is offering the second series of the brilliantly wry and surprisingly touching The End of the F***ing World for any UK viewers who didn’t catch it on Channel 4. There’s also the excellent animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (we loved it. 5 stars.) as well as Boots Riley’s inventive, funny, political satire Sorry to Bother You (we also loved it. 4.5 stars.) On top of that, you can take a nostalgic trip to Capeside with all six seasons of Dawson’s Creek or watch emotionally repressed royals deal with the advent of the 1980s in season four of The Crown.

Here, in alphabetical and date order,...

Netflix Is Adding Over 40 New Movies/TV Shows This Week
Image
Netflix is adding a ton of great titles over the next seven days. From Monday to Sunday, the streaming giant is unleashing some new Halloween-related originals for you to dig into as we approach October 31st, while it’s an usually busy weekend for the site, too, as Sunday marks November 1st, meaning a load of newly licensed movies and shows are being added to Netflix’s library.

Unfortunately, they aren’t bringing us anything fresh on Monday or Thursday, but the rest of the week is well-stocked. As you can see below, Tuesday the 27th delivers three new originals. The highlight of that day’s haul, though, has to be Blood of Zeus, the much-anticipated anime-style series that’s adapting classic Greek myths. Jason O’Mara, Jessica Henwick and Claudia Christian star.

For more, here’s the full list of what’s hitting the service this week:

Netflix Announces First Wave Of New Movies/Shows For November
For the rest of this month, the focus for both the multitude of streaming services on offer and their subscribers will be on content designed to scare you out of your seat as the buildup to Halloween continues. However, almost as soon as the clock strikes midnight on the spookiest day of the year, the focus will immediately shift to Christmas.

Each year a countless barrage of festive movies and TV shows are released, but very few of them manage to penetrate the public consciousness and elevate themselves into the pantheon of all-time greats like It’s a Wonderful Life, Home Alone, Scrooged, The Muppets Christmas Carol, White Christmas, A Christmas Story and depending on your personal opinion, Die Hard.

As the world’s leading platform, Netflix are obviously going to go heavy on the festive angle once again, but November also brings the release of several major titles from a variety of different genres,...
