As the 2024-25 TV season winds down, it’s not surprising that Netflix series dominated multiplatform ratings given the streamer’s reach. Still, a number of broadcast hits — from CBS’ “Tracker” and “Matlock” to ABC’s “High Potential” — broke up its domination of the list of most-watched shows.
Netflix accounted for 10 of the top 15 series across broadcast, cable and streaming, with “Squid Game” and “Adolescence” leading the pack with 27.1 million and 19 million viewers, respectively, according to live-plus-35-day viewing figures through April 6.
Broadcasters, however, took over from there, as CBS’ “Tracker” followed in third place with 17.4 million crossplatform viewers, while ABC’s “High Potential” and CBS’ “Matlock” took the No. 5 and 6 spots on the list with 16.1 million viewers and 16 million viewers, respectively.

Robert Zemeckis' 2007 animated film version of "Beowulf," based on the Old English poem, was one of the earlier films to make such extensive use of then-novel motion-capture CGI technology. Zemeckis seemed to feel that mo-cap was the future of filmmaking, and had previously used it to animate CGI versions of Tom Hanks in his 2004 Christmas film "The Polar Express." After "Beowulf," Zemeckis kept on experimenting, using it in his 2009 animated film "A Christmas Carol," and then again in his doll-based biopic "Welcome to Marwen." Zemeckis has, in the last 20 years, mostly stuck with unusual tech experiments that stretch what the medium of cinema can do. Some of his experiments are successful (the 3D in "The Walk" is some of the best ever) and some aren't ("Here" sucked), but one can at least admire him for trying to reach higher.

If there's one person who's more excited to get stuck back into the world of "Reacher" than its audience, it's Jack Reacher himself. Turning out an impressive third season that received rave reviews, the actor behind the bus-riding, bad-guy-punching hero, Alan Ritchson, has expressed his enthusiasm for what's in store in the future. Besides making huge claims about his alter-ego, he may also have teased a potential appearance in his old war buddy's spin-off series.
In a recent Instagram post, Ritchson submitted a fascinating slideshow of photos that were heavily embedded in the "Reacher-verse." The first image showed him with his co-star, Maria Sten, who has been with Ritchson since the show's beginning as Reacher's longtime pal, Francis Neagley, and is set to appear in her own untitled show. Pictured alongside Sten, Ritchson wrote, "Stopped by the 'Neagley' set to see my dear friend @mariasten who is absolutely crushing it.

Alan Ritchson has found himself attached to yet another potential franchise starter. The Reacher actor is set to lead the upcoming adventure movie Fortune for Skydance.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, plot details remain under wraps for Fortune, although the movie is being described as "Memento meets Raiders of the Lost Ark." Before he was the brick wall with fists in Reacher, Alan Ritchson was Kevin “Thad” Devlin Castle in Blue Mountain State, a chaotic, over-the-top college football bro with more ego than sense. This cult-favorite sitcom ran for just three seasons, but it gave us Ritchson in peak comedy form, flexing his absurdity long before he was flexing justice.
If you’re only familiar with his tough guy persona, Blue Mountain State is the perfect crash course in how outrageously funny (and weird) Ritchson can get.

Coming courtesy of Lionsgate and Netflix, and directed by The Hitman's Bodyguard filmmaker Patrick Hughes, War Machine boasts the kind of high-concept that action dreams are made of, with reports revealing that the plot follows “the final 24-hours of the world’s toughest selection program, as a team of Army Rangers encounter a threat beyond their imagination.

Jack Reacher has been spotted out and about in the real-world in our first look at the upcoming Reacher spin-off, Neagley. The action series has proven to be a massive hit for Amazon Prime Video, with the studio and streamer now looking to branch out into a Reacher shared universe, starting with Neagley starring Maria Sten as Frances Neagley. And Amazon is wasting no time in getting the spin-off to screens.
While it had not been confirmed that Alan Ritchson’s Jack Reacher would appear alongside Sten’s Neagley in the spin-off series, it has now been revealed that he absolutely will, with the pair spotting filming scenes for the show during a recent face-off between the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox at Chicago's Wrigley Field (via MLB). While the images and footage don’t give much away, Ritchson is sporting his usual stoic expression which gives way...

Casting is important on any TV or film project, but it was particularly significant on "Reacher." The immensely popular Prime Video series has broken records since it debuted in 2022, but when it first started, it was somewhat of a question mark. The series is, of course, based on the popular Jack Reacher books by British novelist Lee Child, which follow the titular ex-military policeman on his travels around the U.S. as he finds himself embroiled in all manner of debacles. But previous attempts to bring the character to the screen had proven divisive among fans of the novels.
For the 2012 movie "Jack Reacher," Tom Cruise was cast in the lead, which even Child himself has since admitted was a mistake. Cruise reprised the role in 2016's "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back," but fans simply weren't having it. At issue was the star's diminutive stature, which wasn't even close to...

Kevin Bacon has broken his silence on the cancellation of The Bondsman. Prime Video axed the horror series earlier in May — just over a month after it premiered.
Bacon executive produced the action-horror series from Grainger David, in addition to having the leading role as backwoods bounty hunter Hub Halloran. Despite the show establishing a blood-soaked and darkly comedic horror mythology, the plug was pulled by the Amazon-owned streamer on May 16.

The actor and producer released his first statement on The Bondsman's cancellation on Monday (May 19) via Instagram, in which he expressed confusion over Prime Video's decision.
"Really bummed out that The Bondsman is not coming back for a second season,” told fans. “I really loved walking in Hub Halloran’s shoes, making that show with so many great, talented people, making that music. And I wish I had an explanation for you,...

Prime Video's Reacher universe is officially expanding — and it’s not doing things by the book. In fact, fans got their first real glimpse at the highly anticipated spin-off Neagley in one of the last places anyone expected: the stands of Chicago’s Wrigley Field. That’s right. During a Cubs vs. White Sox game this past Saturday, Neagley star Maria Sten and Alan Ritchson were spotted filming scenes right in the middle of the action. Ritchson, as one would expect, blended in about as well as an elephant in a petting zoo. Far from being a behind-the-scenes leak, the footage was captured and shared by Marquee Sports Network, confirming what fans had long suspected — Ritchson is definitely showing up in the spin-off series.

Audiences have been waiting for John Wick director Chad Stahelski’s Highlander reboot for years now (no doubt many have wondered if they would be required to live forever to actually see it), with the Henry Cavill-led project having now shifted from the studio behind Keanu Reeves’ Baba Yaga, Lionsgate, to Amazon MGM Studios. While it wasn’t revealed at the time why such a move was made, it’s possible we now have our reason...and it’s either good news or bad news, depending on how nostalgic you’re feeling.
According to a new report (via JoBlo), Amazon chose to step in and pick up the reboot of the beloved franchise as they are now determined to put a lot of stock into well-known 80s IP. Leaning further into nostalgia, the studio is reportedly doing everything they can to “attract a Gen-x-focused audience,” which also includes their...

It’s been more than a month since the finale of Bosch: Legacy began streaming on Prime Video, but fans just can’t stop watching the final season of Titus Welliver’s detective drama. The Bosch: Legacy Season 3 finale premiered on April 17, and all this time later, the show has once again climbed back into the Prime Video top 10. Sitting at #10 at the time of writing, Bosch: Legacy falls just behind other Prime Video original projects like Reacher, but it’s also trailing Ben Affleck’s first Accountant movie and Twisters — the legacy sequel led by Glen Powell. Bosch: Legacy was canceled by Prime Video after its third season, and even though hopes of a revival on Prime or elsewhere are fading, fans aren’t giving up on the show.

The Amateur Box Office(Photo Credit –20thcenturystudios)
The Amateur quietly held its ground like a seasoned underdog, while Final Destination: Bloodlines soaked up most of the spotlight with a thunderous box office debut. The Rami Malek-led film didn’t ride in on any franchise glory, but it chipped away at expectations week after week.
The movie stacked up a respectable $40 million in the US and nudged close to $100 million globally, according to Box Office Mojo. Honestly, it’s no small feat in a landscape where even star-led action flicks like A Working Man barely make it past the finish line with similar totals.

Alan Ritchson’s Reacher is a massive success for Amazon, and it’s frustrating that the studio seemingly wants to expand the franchise way too early, which is often a risky move. Nowadays, popular television shows love to spawn spinoffs, and let’s face it—sometimes it’s not about the story or the characters, but because of profit.
The fourth season of Reacher was confirmed ahead of the third installment’s premiere, but those waiting for it might need to stretch their patience as it won’t arrive sooner than expected. The culprit is the upcoming spinoff, Neagley.

The renewal of Reacher for a fourth saga brought so much excitement to fans, but a recent update might disappoint them after TV Line spilled the tea on the progress of the upcoming Neagley spinoff.

While Final Destination Bloodlines dominated the box office chatter this weekend with an exemplary performance, 20th Century Studios’ The Amateur continued to provide textbook counter-programming. The movie’s workmanlike performance across the last month or so has yielded $40 million at the domestic box office and nearly $100 million worldwide. Not too many films these days are able to hit such numbers; case in point, the recent Jason Statham action vehicle A Working Man, which seems to have ended its run with just under $100 million globally.
And although The Amateur hasn’t hit the coveted milestone yet either, there’s no denying that it’s a less glamorous affair than a new Statham film. For one, it’s a grown-up espionage thriller and not a mass-market action movie. For another, it stars Rami Malek, and not a movie star who is generally considered to be a genre unto himself. Malek has an Oscar under his belt,...

Christopher McQuarrie, Tom Cruise's go-to director for many of the Mission: Impossible movies, is an action genre visionary. He has helped the actor achieve the impossible with death-defying stunts that drive millions to theaters with each sequel. However, it's not a secret that he began his career by making totally different movies. The Usual Suspectswas only his second screenwriting credit, and one could argue that it's his most important work to date because it earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Nevertheless, even though it still holds up today, McQuarrie believes the crime thriller probably wouldn't work now. The reason? It would be virtually impossible to keep the Keyser Söze twist from leaking online.
McQuarrie is currently promoting the latest installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The director offered a masterclass at this year's Cannes Film Festival, and while all eyes...

When Sylvester Stallone wrote "Rocky" as a way to launch his career, he infused his script with plenty of heart and character development, revealing himself to be a talented writer with a sensitivity for which fans of his action filmography don't always give him credit. That said, there's no doubt that the man has a talent for bombastic action. 1982's "First Blood," in which his John J. Rambo debuted, was all the better for having Stallone in the lead role, with the star making changes to the script by removing much of the macho posturing in favor of a more restrained approach. Stallone added what became the defining feature of "First Blood" to the script, and ever since, has been crafting engaging action tales.
As the years went by, however, Stallone frequently embraced a formulaic approach. The retired badass with the "I don't do that any more" attitude exists, in part,...

Among the many delays in the long gestation of the Highlander reboot, Lionsgate had planned an expansive new franchise for the franchise under Chad Stahelski’s direction, but things changed as a report stated that his “vision for the film fit better into the Amazon model.” It was recently reported that the mystical film, which has Henry Cavill‘s attachment, migrated from Lionsgate to Amazon MGM. The new deal will give United Artists full rights to the franchise, with Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt set to produce alongside Neal H. Moritz and 87Eleven Entertainment.
The Wrap now reports that one of the reasons Amazon MGM is getting friendly with the 80s IP is because the studio is embracing the call for nostalgic revamps. Their strategy is to attract a Gen-x-focused audience that also played into their success with “dad TV” action shows like Jack Ryan and Reacher. Along with Highlander,...

Chad Stalhelski, the erstwhile stunt coordinator-turned-director who transformed “John Wick” from a potential direct-to-video action movie into one of the most inventive, visually ravishing franchises in modern cinema, was ready for a change.
He had made four films in the Keanu Reeves-starring series, with the fourth film grossing almost $450 million worldwide. More importantly, he had created an entirely new universe for Lionsgate and producers Thunder Road that now included streaming series, big screen spinoffs and an upcoming animated prequel. Tom Cruise is back to save cinema again with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The eighth (and possibly final) installment in the series, which began in 1996, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year and reportedly got a five-minute standing ovation. Cruise was in attendance with the rest of the cast and crew of the film.
Cruise has been playing Ethan Hunt for three decades now, and with each installment, he has pushed the boundaries of what could be done in the stunt space. He has performed many of the death-defying stunts on his own and has been a proponent for the big-screen experience. The Final Reckoning might just be his last in the franchise.

After opening up the year with A Working Man, one of Jason Statham’s older movies has resurfaced on streaming charts more than 10 years later. Statham stars alongside Stranger Things veteran Winona Ryder in Homefront, the 2013 conspiracy thriller following a former DEA agent who moves to a quiet town but soon begins to get tangled up with a drug lord and his local meth operation. Homefront, which also stars Clancy Brown, hit Prime Video not long ago, and the film has surged into the top 10, sitting at #9 at the time of writing. For years, right-wingers hailed Reacher as the epitome of right-wing conservative media, and it’s easy to see why. Considering the show revolves around a vagabond ex-Army police officer who delves into vigilanteism, it fed into the right-wing conservatives’ anti-woke narrative, and Alan Ritchson was being heavily revered in that faction.
Although it’d have been easy for Ritchson to lean towards this sentiment amidst Reacher‘s popularity among the Maga crowd, instead, he opted to speak his mind about Donald Trump, which didn’t sit well with right-wingers.

Many stars come to mind when you hear the phrase, ‘aging like a fine wine’. The likes of George Clooney, Paul Rudd, Keanu Reeves, and Jeff Goldblum are the first to cross our minds. But some simply don’t age. Tom Cruise falls in that category.
Don’t let the fact that he’s over 62 years old fool you into thinking that Cruise is going to give himself a rest. As the final entry of the Mission: Impossible franchise comes ‘reckoning’, Cruise has yet again reminded fans of the old adage, ‘age is just a number’.

Alan Ritchson is set to take a temporary break from the Reacher franchise to star in a new sci-fi action film, titled War Machine. Alongside Ritchson, the movie also stars Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, and Dennis Quaid, and the latter star says fans are in for a treat with Ritchson's next action flick. As well as bringing Lee Child's iconic military police/vigilante to life in Reacher, Ritchson has slowly been establishing himself as one of Hollywood's go-to action icons, starring in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Fast X, Titans, and more. But, War Machine is easily his most ambitious action project to date.
During an interview with Collider to promote his new movie, Broke, Dennis Quaid teased what fans can expect from himself, Ritchson, and the rest of the cast in War Machine. "It was two weeks, for my part in War Machine, down in Australia," Quaid began.

Sylvester Stallone might have a new title as President Trump's "special ambassador to Hollywood," but he's still sitting on the throne as the "Tulsa King." Yes, the Paramount+ juggernaut, one in a long line of Taylor Sheridan produced series, will be returning for a third season.
It makes sense that actor turned prolific TV creative has been able to create so many of these shows (considering he wrote the "Tulsa King" pilot in less than 24 hours), and yet, despite the quick script, some say "Tulsa King" may be Sheridan's best work (or at least the most entertaining of the bunch). The tale of Dwight "The General" Manfredi (Stallone) and rise from exiled New York mafia soldier to kingpin of Tulsa, Oklahoma has produced some of the funniest, strangest characters in the entire Sheridan universe. It has also helped turn the show into a hit for Paramount+, which has...

If you weren't sure already, /Film loves Alan Ritchson and wants to see him in as much stuff as possible. Sure, we might be getting our annual quota of seeing him cave in henchmen's heads every season in "Reacher," and the promise of seeing him again in the final "Fast and Furious" film might have us excited, but there are dream roles just waiting to be taken by the star's waffle-iron-sized fists and one in particular would see him as an immortal fighting while Freddie Mercury's legendary voice bellows in the background.
We are referring to Chad Stahelski's long-awaited and ever-intriguing reboot of "Highlander," which returns to the Scottish Isles and brings a new take on the story of Connor MacLeod, a Scotsman from the 16th century who dies, only to come back to life and discover that he's an immortal like a handful of others. From here,...

While everyone was paying attention to the blockbusting being accomplished by A Minecraft Movie and Sinners, all the dads got together and made The Amateur a hit. The espionage thriller features Rami Malek in his first proper leading role since he won an Oscar for his performance in Bohemian Rhapsody. In the last month, The Amateur has not only shown the power of counter-programming, but also how vital it is to not ignore underserved audiences. Older crowds will leave their homes if given a reason to; they aren't interested in watching only Reacher or Bosch.
With $38 million domestically and another $51 million from overseas markets, The Amateurhas grossed over $90 million worldwide so far. Does the movie have what it takes to pass the $100 million mark globally? Only time (and its digital debut) will tell. Interestingly, The Amateur is leading Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal's The Accountant 2, which, despite its franchise value,...
