3 impactful Star Trek episodes from The Original Series
Image
While Star Trek: The Original Series has its share of silly and campy moments, some of its episodes have had quite an impact on pop culture and science fiction alike.

From haunting moments that linger with viewers to episodes that establish canon, these three impactful episodes remain with fans almost 60 years later.

1. “Amok Time”

Up until this episode (S02E01), viewers didn’t know much about Vulcan culture or Spock’s background. When the Vulcan drive to mate comes upon him and he enters Pon Farr, he must return to Vulcan, take a mate, or die.

This is one of those Original Series episodes that galvanized fans and likely sparked content such as fan fiction and fanzines. The alien and somehow beautiful background of Vulcan, the powerful presence of T’Pau, the Vulcan marriage ceremony, and the iconic battle between Spock and Captain Kirk created a solid foundation for Vulcan culture...

He was 54.

Costa Rican National Police told ABC News that Warner’s official cause of death was asphyxia. Police said he died near Cocles, a beach in Limon province, after being caught by a high current. He was found Sunday afternoon.

The Associated Press reported that the local police initially reported that Warner “was rescued by people on the beach.” But first responders from Costa Rica’s Red Cross found him without vital signs, and he was taken to the morgue.

Clint Eastwood Inspired 90%-Rated Star Wars Show That Has Progressively Gotten Worse
Image
Clint Eastwood and his Dollars trilogy inspired Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian, but in its later seasons lost that connection to the classic Westerns. Played by Pedro Pascal, The Mandalorian is an intergalactic bounty hunter who is tasked with protecting a child named Grogu, who is force-sensitive, and is pursued by remnants of the Empire, especially Moff Gideon. The show was positioned as a neo-Western in Star Wars.

Pedro Pascal, on multiple occasions, described Din Djarin as a mix between Han Solo and Clint Eastwood’s classic Man with No Name character from Sergio Leone’s Dollars trilogy. Even the makers mentioned that they wanted to introduce a similar, morally ambiguous hero to the Star Wars universe (via Men’s Health).

The character is very much built on the iconic presence of The Man With No Name in Sergio Leone’s movies, played by Clint Eastwood, and The Lone Samurai in Akira Kurosawa.

Russell Crowe & Leonardo DiCaprio's $47M Western Disappointment Gets Redemption On Netflix's Global Charts 30 Years Later
Image
Following its disappointing box office takings three decades ago, the star-studded Western The Quick and the Deadis gaining belated attention on the Netflix streaming charts. Coming from director Sam Raimi and starring Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Sharon Stone, this cult favorite underperformed at the time and only grossed $47 million against its $35 million budget.

As a revisionist Western about a female gunfighter joining a deadly dueling competition in the Old West town of Redemption, The Quick and the Dead delivers a stylish, genre-bending spectacle that wasn’t appreciated in its own time. With over-the-top early performances from future Hollywood stars, in hindsight, it’s striking just how much talent was involved in this underappreciated Western.

Clint Eastwood’s Greatest Role Inspired Mike Flanagan’s Best Character in Midnight Mass
Image
Clint Eastwood reportedly inspired a role in Midnight Mass, a horror miniseries created and directed by Mike Flanagan. The show is set on an island town named Crockett Island, where supernatural events begin to occur after the head priest of the local church is replaced by a younger priest, whose true identity remains a mystery. Flanagan directed all seven episodes.

Frequent collaborator Rahul Kohli played one of the best characters in the show, Sheriff Hassan. A Muslim sheriff in a predominantly Catholic town, Kohli mentioned that he was excited by the role because it gave him a chance to emulate Eastwood’s iconic Man with No Name character from the Dollars trilogy (via Men’s Health).

‘McBee Dynasty’ Sons Reveal Shocking Details About Father’s Legal Troubles

As Season 2 of McBee Dynasty hits Bravo, there’s one glaring absence fans couldn’t miss—Steve McBee. The family’s patriarch, who was central to Season 1, has largely vanished from the screen.

His disappearance, however, isn’t just a dramatic plot twist. It’s deeply rooted in real-life legal trouble that could land him behind bars for decades. Now, for the first time, his sons are speaking out.

A Family Under Pressure

When the McBee boys returned to the screen, it was clear something had shifted. The energy was different. Steve McBee, once the powerhouse holding the family and business together, was barely present in the premiere.

Behind the scenes, he’s facing up to 30 years in prison for federal crop insurance fraud. His sentencing, originally set for June 2025, has now been delayed until September.

While Steve quietly stepped out of the spotlight—both personally and professionally—his sons have stepped up.

The Only Main Actors Still Alive From The Virginian
Image
After "Gunsmoke" paved the way for adult westerns on television, the floodgates opened up with every network trying to ride the success wave with oaters of their own like "Rawhide," "Bonanza," and "Wagon Train." Chief among them was "The Virginian," which holds the honor of being the third longest-running network western of all time. The NBC series ran for nine seasons and 249 episodes from 1962 to 1971. The distinction it holds over most of its cowboy television counterparts is that it was the first 90-minute Western series, with episodes running for 75 minutes plus commercials.

Loosely based on Owen Wister's 1902 novel "The Virginian: A Horseman of the Plains," "The Virginian" had been adapted four times into feature films, with the version starring Gary Cooper considered among his best movies. Almost three decades later, James Drury performed a test drive for the character in a 1958 episode of the half-hour anthology series "Decision." Considerable...

When it comes to iconic TV theme songs, one of the most instantly recognizable is that of The X-Files. In sad news today, it was announced that composer Mark Snow, who was behind the tune that accompanied the 90s show, has passed away at the age of 78.

Snow’s career spanned decades, from his early work on shows like Hart to Hart through to his recent work on Blue Bloods, the 15-times Emmy nominated composer leaves behind an incredible legacy, which is something that was reflected on by close friend, Sean Callery, who composed music for the Keifer Sutherland series 24, and considered Snow one of his greatest mentors. He told Variety:

“His limitless talent and boundless creativity was matched only by the generosity he bestowed upon other composers who sought his guidance. He would give the most inspiring and intelligent feedback when listening to the work of other young artists...

Before Baby Reindeer, Clint Eastwood’s True Stalker-Inspired 85% Rated Movie Challenged Hollywood
Image
Clint Eastwood transitioned to directing in 1971 after establishing himself as one of the most commercially bankable leading stars of Hollywood. His directorial debut was loosely inspired by his real experience with a stalker, resulting in the 85% rated psychological thriller Play Misty for Me.

During an interview, Eastwood talked about making a film with a female villain when it was considered unconventional to have actresses play disturbing roles. However, Eastwood fought hard for the creative choice and the actress he wanted in the role. Here is how Eastwood changed Hollywood with his directorial debut long before stalker stories like Baby Reindeer.

One Underrated Western Merged Clint Eastwood's Two Most Famous Characters
Image
Most Hollywood actors are lucky if they have one truly iconic character on their list of screen credits, let alone two. We might talk about Harrison Ford (Han Solo and Indiana Jones), Sylvester Stallone (Rocky and Rambo), or Keanu Reeves (Neo and John Wick), but arguably at top of the heap is Clint Eastwood with the Man With No Name and "Dirty" Harry Callahan. Not only did he make such an unforgettable impression in both roles, but those characters have also become almost synonymous with their respective genres. Can you really imagine Westerns without thinking of Clint wearing his poncho and chewing on a cheroot in Sergio Leone's "Dollars Trilogy" (or cop thrillers without picturing him squinting along the barrel of his hand cannon in "Dirty Harry")? Indeed, you can even pinpoint the moment in cinema when Eastwood's two most famous characters merged, and that movie is an underrated Western called "Coogan's Bluff.

Clint Eastwood Inspired This 17 Year Old Korean Movie Based on His Greatest Film Starring Squid Game Actor

Clint Eastwood is a renowned actor and filmmaker, known for his prolific and efficient working style. He has won two Oscars for his directing work, but the legend started as an actor and became a Western icon. One of his most popular Westerns is the third movie in his Dollars trilogy, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Eastwood’s character as the Man with No Name became extremely popular, and so did Sergio Leone’s morally grey style. The movie has far-reaching influences, with one of the most popular ones being Kim Jee-woon’s The Good, the Bad, the Weird, which starred Lee Byung-hun, known for his work on Squid Game.

‘Rick and Morty’ Season 8 Lied to Us: Its Clint Eastwood Tribute Is to His Best Movie That Inspired Yellowstone
Image
Rick and Morty, the animated science fiction sitcom, is exceeding expectations once again as it continues its run, with its eighth season currently airing a new episode every week. But while the alcoholic sociopath-scientist and his grandson persist with their absurd intergalactic adventures, the recently aired episode seems to have deceived us.

While the respective episode in the talk didn’t hesitate to give Clint Eastwood a tribute with its title, it seems to have done more than just that. This is because, while the episode’s title was named after a classic Western from the filmmaker, it appears to have parodied one of his other flicks; notably, the one that inspired Yellowstone: 1992’s Unforgiven.

24 Years Later, I Realized Clint Eastwood Has Got Nothing to Do With Gorillaz’s Best Song Named After Him
Image
Clint Eastwood is a legendary actor and filmmaker who has influenced countless movies after him. He might be best known for his image as a Western star due to his hit Dollars trilogy with Sergio Leone. The theme songs composed by Ennio Morricone are a pop cultural staple, and the themes are often invoked by many contemporary artists.

One such artist was the hip-hop fusion band Gorillaz, who named their debut hit single Clint Eastwood after the actor. The song has nothing to do with the actor or his movies, and is not even mentioned in the lyrics. If one listens to the song, it does not even sonically sound similar to any of Eastwood’s themes. So, then why did Gorillaz name it after the actor?

The 90% Rated Picture Clint Eastwood Considers His Biggest Regret, Directed by ‘Dirty Harry’ Director
Image
Clint Eastwood has directed and starred in several incredible films and was the poster boy (or should we say poster man) for masculinity in the ‘70s and ‘80s. The Western legend played no-nonsense heroes who did the right thing, with his signature squint and never-give-up attitude. However, there was one movie that broke this image.

Before Eastwood became the symbol of badassery with Dirty Harry, in the same year, he starred in Don Siegel’s The Beguiled (1971). The Gothic thriller saw Eastwood play a wounded Union soldier, who becomes the object of fascination of a group of nuns of all ages as he recovers in their Seminary. Eastwood reportedly regretted the film’s performance.

Clint Eastwood had not only established himself as an archetype of a hero but had also begun to break it down.

John Carpenter
Peter Kwong of Big Trouble in Little China and The Golden Child has passed away at age 73
John Carpenter
We’re big fans of director John Carpenter’s 1986 action extravaganza Big Trouble in Little China here on JoBlo. We’ve sung its praises with a Revisited video, named it the greatest cult film of all time, and dug into the film’s three best scenes… so we’re very sad to hear that actor Peter Kwong, who played the super-powered martial artist Rain in the Carpenter film, has passed away at the age of 73. According to Variety‘s report, Kwong died in his sleep Tuesday night.

Kwong is best remembered for playing Rain, but that was just one of almost 90 screen acting credits he racked up over the course of a career that stretched back nearly fifty years. Hailing from Sacramento, California, Kwong got his acting career started with an appearance on a 1976 episode of the TV series Visions. Among his many other credits are roles in the films Straight Time,...

Born on April 9, 1952, Kwong began his screen career in the mid-1970s with guest shots on such TV series as Wonder Woman and Black Sheep Squadron and into the ’80s with Cagney & Lacey, Bret Maverick, The Greatest American Hero, Little House on the Prairie, Dynasty, The A-Team, Miami Vice, 227, St. Elsewhere, Matt Houston and others.

The 1975 Classic Quentin Tarantino Called "The Greatest Movie Ever Made" Is Coming To Streaming Next Month
Image
The movie that Quentin Tarantino proclaimed as the greatest of all time is coming to streaming next month, so fans can decide for themselves whether they agree with the director or not. Quentin Tarantino's movies showcase his love of classic cinema, as he seems to draw from a wide variety of influences. Tarantino has spoken about his love for the Dollars trilogy before, but he also demonstrates an interest in anything from old war movies to blaxploitation action comedies. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a neat summary of his undying passion for all genres of cinema.

Tarantino often speaks about his favorite movies, and he does so with a refreshing candor that not many people in Hollywood can afford. He's one of the only people both popular and influential enough to make his true feelings known, like when he referred to a Hitchcock classic as "mediocre". This makes...

Clint Eastwood Masked His Only Horror Movie as a 94% Rated Western That You Can Rent on Apple
Image
Clint Eastwood is not really an auteur filmmaker, but he has a certain affinity for particular genres. His filmography is eclectic, but it covers a specific range of topics and can be easily categorized. While he is known for Westerns, he has explored various dimensions in that too, bidding goodbye to it with Unforgiven and Cry Macho.

One of Eastwood’s earliest directorials saw him experiment with the genre in a way that he has never done before or after. The revenge drama High Plains Drifter takes the familiar trope of a stranger visiting a new town and being asked to be its protector and turns it on itself. However, it is Eastwood’s atmosphere of mystique and horror that makes it more fun.

Duck Dynasty: The Revival Hit With Last-Minute Delay Amid Phil Robertson’s Death
Image
Duck Dynasty: The Revival stars were left heartbroken after news broke that family patriarch Phil Robertson had passed away on Sunday. However, even before the tragic news broke, the beloved show was hit by a last-minute delay.

Nevertheless, not all delays are necessarily bad, as the reality show based on the beloved duck hunting family got a new release date, as opposed to the former one. After the original Duck Dynasty wrapped up after 11 seasons in 2017, it was revealed earlier this year that the show was getting a reboot.

The Duck Dynasty: The Revival was initially slated for a midweek slot, but according to the new announcement, the show’s premiere has been moved by a few days.

Image
Filthy rich television characters have no satisfaction—they already have wads of fortune yet they still grapple and kill for more money. It’s a different story when the entire family is involved, as the fight to stay on top of their game and protect their wealth always prevails.

Whenever we talk about billionaires, Dynasty’s Fallon Carrington immediately comes to mind. She’s an heiress and businesswoman, and most importantly, a highly intelligent, competent, and charismatic figure in the show.

Dynasty’s Fallon Carrington pales in comparison with these ultra-wealthy tycoons Elizabeth Gillies in Dynasty / Credits: The CW

The CW’s Dynasty is a reboot of the 1981 soap opera drama of the same title. The Carringtons from the original show were already dirty rich with a net worth of $500 million (as per Collider), but this isn’t so impressive in today’s financial landscape. The new Carringtons, including Elizabeth Gillies’ Fallon,...

‘Shrinking’ Star Ted McGinley On Being Labeled the Patron Saint of Jumping the Shark: ‘I Started Losing Jobs’
Image
While most actors pray for a hit show, Ted McGinley has had the luxury of being on several. From his first TV job on “Happy Days,” to now enjoying a gig on Apple TV+’s “Shrinking,” McGinley spent multiple seasons on such popular 1980s programs as “The Love Boat,” “Dynasty” and “Married… With Children.” But that success came with a dark side when he was unfairly labeled “The Patron Saint of Jumping the Shark,” and associated with the death of popular TV shows.

Speaking at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation during a lengthy conversation about his career, McGinley said the phrase hurt. “At first I thought it was kind of funny,” he said. “And then I realized that I started losing jobs.”

The nickname came from Jon Hein, the founder of the website JumptheShark.com. The origins of the phrase referred to an episode in Season 5 of “Happy Days” in which Henry Winkler...

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From The Big Valley
Image
Big screen Westerns might've been falling out of favor at the U.S. box office in 1965 (thus paving the way for Spaghetti Westerns to become a surprise sensation when Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy rode into movie theaters throughout the course of 1967), but television Westerns were still swaggering their way to strong ratings thanks to "Bonanza," "Gunsmoke," and the hybrid Western/spy/sci-fi series "The Wild Wild West." And with "Rawhide" finally drawing to a close that year (thereby allowing its star Clint Eastwood to become a modern Western star), there was suddenly room for a new, sudsy, ranch-bound saga about scheming landowners and warring heirs.

"The Big Valley" whooped it up for a solid four-season run, running out of steam in 1969 at around the same moment the television Westerns began going the way of classical big screen oaters. Until then, viewers were hooked on the doings at the Barkley Ranch,...

New Addition: Billy Campbell cast in upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot
Image
The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot cast is coming together in a promising way. We just learned that Golden Globe Award nominee Billy Campbell has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. I wonder who he could be playing in the slasher.

Campbell joins a growing list of actors who have already been announced to be in the cast, such as Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King.

Freddie Prinze Jr. was announced recently to have officially joined the cast, reprising his role of Ray Bronson from the original film and its 1998 sequel. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy Norwood are also in talks to return in their roles as Julie James and Karla Wilson.

Additionally, Bodies Bodies Bodies star Chase Sui Wonders is currently in discussions about joining the cast of the upcoming Sony movie. However, who she will be portraying in the film is unknown.
