A disappointing start to the new DC Universe.

Let me say this up front: I'm not a fan of Superman as a superhero, but I do enjoy James Gunn's work (especially his «GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY» trilogy, which I absolutely love), so I was genuinely curious and looking forward to his new film about the Man of Steel.

Unfortunately, this time James Gunn left me disappointed. The biggest issue is the script. For some reason, the director chose to throw the audience straight into the middle of the action, with almost no background or introduction for the main character. Some might argue that Superman's origin story is no longer necessary, but in my view, it's absolutely essential for a full-fledged reboot. This is David Corenswet's first appearance as Clark Kent, and the film clearly lacks at least 30 minutes of emotional buildup to help us connect with him. Without that foundation, it's hard to truly care about his character.

The same goes for the rest of the cast. Lex Luthor lacks a clear motivation: he wants to destroy Superman right from the start, but there's no deeper reasoning behind it. Clark's relationship with his adoptive parents is barely shown - they appear only in a few short scenes. His connection with Lois Lane also feels shallow. There's no real chemistry between them, and their relationship seems to develop entirely off-screen. As a result, it feels more like we're watching the second installment in a franchise rather than the first.

Another serious flaw is the overload of secondary heroes. The audience is thrown into a new world packed with characters: Green Lantern, Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, The Engineer, Ultraman - all of whom show up, but almost none receive meaningful screen time (Mister Terrific is arguably the most developed). They're hard to remember, let alone care about. For the average viewer unfamiliar with the DC Universe, it's genuinely overwhelming. «BATMAN V SUPERMAN» was heavily criticized for a similarly chaotic structure, yet despite sharing the same flaws, Gunn's latest film is somehow receiving mostly positive reviews. I just don't get it.

So, for the first film in the rebooted DC Universe (DCU), I expected a more coherent, emotionally rich, and self-contained story. For many viewers - especially newcomers - this movie might feel chaotic and overcrowded. And, in essence, that's exactly how it is. In just two hours of runtime, Gunn packed in so much that it could have easily been stretched out into an entire season of a TV series.

    6/10

    P. S. I'm not a Zack Snyder fan, even though I'm aware of his massive fanbase. Personally, I see him as a strong visionary but a weak writer and director. Still, I have to be honest: his «MAN OF STEEL» left a far deeper impression on me than James Gunn's new «SUPERMAN». As disappointing as that is - especially given how much I admire Gunn's previous work - I have to speak frankly about how I feel.

Just fine, nothing more nothing less

A movie that is about to kickstart an entire new age in dc, i think this movie is doing just decent job at it. And that may or may not be a good thing for some. To me it isn't unfortunately.

For quite some years now many superhero projects movies, tv shows and games seem to have found a new direction which is more or less focused on comedic elements and fan service, and to me and what it seems to many others, i believe it is taking away some of that spark many superhero projects used to have.

Superman (2025) is in my honest opinion as a movie is just fine, decent, okay, and at times it can have good moments. But as a superhero and especially a superman movie it's starts to have bit more issues.

The movie in many ways is similar to recent dc and marvel movies. From its comedic tone, to breaking emotional scenes with comedy. Sure there are some serious moments, but far too little.

When you have a chance of a lifetime especially during these times when superhero fatigue is at its worst, this movie in quite few ways doesn't do anything to separate from it.

    • Music was decent at times, it didn't really have your usual overly orchestral pieces which is good thing. Though the movie didn't found its own theme and rather it relies on arrangement of reeves one. I don't think many will remember this movies score or theme in the long-run which is kinda unfortunate.

    • Visuals and colors were one of the movies worse parts, It didn't have distinct look or feel to it and looked most of the movie like The flash movie. At times the movie looked like an ad or just dull, lack of colors. I thought artistically Smallville from 20yrs ago has better look and warmth feel to it than this movie.

    • Cinematography for the most part was bad, too many close-ups, fisheye lenses and shaky movement, but thats to be expected from the same cinematographer who also did the flash. Come to think of it i even prefer many of the cinematic moment from the flash show more than what was shown in this movie.

I really can't fathom the idea that someone like James Gunn who had directed already plenty of superhero movies before has a one in a lifetime chance to do superman movie he wants, but ends up to delivering very similar movie to the ones he already did, and what we have seen last 6+ years now. When you have a chance to do of all superhero characters an a superman, i think he delivered an a superhero movie, not an a superman.

All in all i think this is the kind of a movie that quite many will enjoy, but i think its not the one that would leave same type impact like 1978 left.

I don't think this is the movie people would put posters in their walls.

    Meh...

I want to start by saying I am a HUGE Superman fan. From the comics, animations, television shows and movies, I have seen them all more than I care to admit beyond this post. I have been patiently waiting for this movie ever since it was announced as getting a reboot (even though I thought Henry Cavill did a fantastic job and deserved one more movie). James Gunn proved himself with the success of the MCU movies he was involved in but the DCU is not the same.

Now for the movie itself. There were some great moments and some terrible moments. I went in with an open mind but found myself eye-rolling and sighing throughout majority of the film. There some truly inane moments and jokes that were already seen in the trailers so they lost their "punch". I will not give away any spoilers because I do not like when others spoil it for me but I will say without a doubt that Krypto was the best part of the film. Give it a shot or not, you might feel differently.

    P. S. Don't forget to stay for the end credits 😉

Different formula and that is good, very good

This film was beyond expectation. The story telling used a different formula from previous DC movies, and that's precisely what made it so good. This is how Superhero stories should be depicted, not just about clashes of superpowers. Moral message and humanity from both hero and villains perspective were portrayed exceptionally well. I loved how the char of Clark and Lex were portrayed in this movie, both actors did an excellent job. I love how this movie handle the ending, because it's connected with the opening ,and somehow its have deeper meaning. The only drawbacks might be the post-credit scenes, both are too short, we want more.

After the constant drama concerning the DCEU and what Gunn will do, Superman reinvigorates the franchise and sets a new standard .

While we have all been through the rollercoaster that is the DCEU future over the past few years, Superman could possibly be up there with one of the greatest superhero films of all time even in a world with the iconic Batman films . I didn't honestly think Gunn would come out with such a bang on this as he did. The suicide squad was fun and showed his signature style but this is on a different level entirely . The bombastic visuals are usual and packed to the brim, but what this film does best is deliver an emotional aspect that hasn't been this prevalent in the genre for a long time . That's what I think will stick with people more than the action. I don't want to get into detail too much as we are very early in the reviews but this will have people blown away and fully ready to embrace the Gunnverse. I even say that as a massive fan of the Snyderverse . ..

Nathan Fillion insisted that Guy Gardner sport the same bowl cut he does in the comics despite early discussions about changing the hairstyle. He said, "There was some talk about different hairstyles. There was some talk about some different types of things we were going to go. I was team bowl cut the whole way. It's canon. It's set. I said, If we don't do a bowl cut, we're going to hear about it."

Superman's fortress is mentioned in the film to be in Antarctica. But in Metropolis, presumably in the northern hemisphere, it appears to be summertime, and at that time of year, it is perpetual night in Antarctica.

In India, the film was censored in order to achieve the U/A 13+ classification. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asked the studio to delete the foul words wherever they were mouthed. An eight-second shot involving a 'foul gesture' was asked to be removed. It was replaced by a two-second shot. Lastly, the CBFC's members deleted a 'sensual visual' lasting 33 seconds and spread across two scenes.
