Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson will reprise their roles from Canadian procedural Private Eyes in a spinoff series, four years after the original came to an end.
Private Eyes West Coast will see private investigators Matt Shade (Priestley) and Angie Everett (Sampson) solving cases in Victoria, British Columbia. Now leading different lives from their Toronto crime-fighting days, they encounter a world of different cases along with a new group of friends.
Further detail on casting, start of production and storyline will be announced “at a later date.” Fair to say the series will almost certainly retain the comedy-drama tone of the original show.
Lionsgate Canada and Piller/Segan are making it for Corus Entertainment network Global, reuniting the trio four year after the end of Private Eyes, which ran from 2016-2021. Lionsgate Television will handle international sales on West Coast, with the original having been a solid seller for the studio.

Jason Priestley has been a television icon since the '90s, which has resulted in a sizable net worth. The Canadian actor is of course best known for playing the morally upright Brandon Walsh in the hit teen drama Beverly Hills, 90210, but Priestley successfully transitioned from a teen idol to a multifaceted entertainer. In addition to acting, he also works behind the camera, and has directed many TV episodes. He's since returned to his roots, starring in Canadian series like Call Me Fitz, Private Eyes, and most recently CBC's Wild Cards, which was just renewed for a second season.
Born in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Jason Priestley grew up in a family deeply connected to the arts. His mother, Sharon Kirk, was an actress and acting coach, which likely sparked his early interest in performance. After attending Argyle Secondary School, Priestley pursued an acting career in Hollywood. In...

It’s hard to imagine iconic duos with their other half. What’s Abbott without Costello? Mac without cheese? Hall without Oates? Well, John Oates is looking to show you just what that might be, announcing a new album titled “Reunion” – quite ironic considering there will never be another one between him and Daryl Hall, the pop duo behind “Private Eyes” and “Maneater”, with Oates now saying the only person he’s going to reunite with is himself.
As John Oates told Rolling Stone, “I’ve been trying to rediscover who I am as an individual, both personally and on the professional and creative side. I realized there was a deeper and more nuanced meaning to ‘reunion.’” This rediscovery comes not long after news broke that Daryl Hall was seeking to sue John Oates over the latter attempting to sell his share in their collaborations, putting a nail in a rather storied partnership and career.

When John Oates spoke to Rolling Stone in January 2020, he explained how balancing his time between massive Hall & Oates concerts with his longtime creative partner Daryl Hall and intimate solo gigs provided him with a dream life. “It keeps me balanced,” he said. “[When I tour solo], I carry my own gear. I show up with my guitar in my hand and put the amp in the back of my car. It’s real and I love it. Then I go out there with Daryl and we’re flying around in private planes and...

“Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent” may be the biggest original TV series premiere Canada has ever had. That means, when that famous “dun-dun” opens the series on Feb. 22 via Citytv, the pressure is on.
It’s notoriously hard to get a show greenlit in Canada. Funding challenges, market size and competition from U.S. acquisitions mean few, if any, Canadian series debut on the Big 3 commercial networks each season. Even public broadcaster CBC, which boasts the highest number of originals on a major network, still relies on acquisitions to fill out its primetime programming grid.
Figuring out how to make noise with a new series in a crowded landscape isn’t a uniquely Canadian challenge, but there are more hurdles here. That’s why from the beginning, a Canadian adaptation of “Criminal Intent” felt like a win — at least from a viewership and marketing standpoint. It’s a recognizable...

Oh-oh here he comes. John Oates, who topped the charts with Daryl Hall in the ‘70s and ‘80s, says he is officially moving on from his once-partner, signaling an official end to the duo. Oates’ comments come amid the legal battle with Hall over the former trying to sell his music rights.
Speaking on the Behind the Velvet Rope podcast (via Variety), Oates said that while he is proud of his work with Hall, now that the two have major legal troubles between them and they haven’t released an album in seven years, it’s time to look at what’s in front of him. “I don’t like to live in the past… I make the analogy of what it’s like when you go to a great museum and you’re really excited to go and see all the beautiful paintings or the exhibits or whatever it might be,...

John Oates is speaking out amid his ongoing legal battle with bandmate Daryl Hall, saying he has “moved on” from the experience.
Hall sued Oates last month over Oates’ plan to sell his share of their joint venture Whole Oats Enterprises to Primary Wave Music without the other’s permission. Hall was granted a temporary restraining order against Oates as legal proceedings continue.
“You can’t ignore the fact that the Hall & Oates catalog of hits and the 50-year career will always trump almost anything that Daryl does on his own or I do on my own, which is okay because I’m very proud of that music,” Oates said recently on David Yontef’s Behind the Velvet Rope podcast. “I’m really proud of what Daryl and I created together. I think we made music that will stand the test of time.”
He continued, “I don’t like to live in the past.

Daryl Hall is proving to be a real maneater, as more details of his restraining order and suit against former partner John Oates have come out, with Halls citing any potential music sale as likely causing “imminent irreparable harm.”
Hall’s restraining order, which was filed earlier this month, stems from Oates apparently seeking to move forward with a plan to sell the entirety of his individual rights, title and interest in Whole Oats Enterprises (Woe), a limited liability partnership which also owns the “Hall & Oates” trademark. As per the suit (obtained by People), Oates was going to sell to publisher Primary Wave Music without the consent of Hall. Daryl Hall plans to stop this “so as to maintain the status quo of Woe before there is a change in control of the partnership in violation of the terms of the Agreement.”

Tis the season for some crazy music news. Legendary duo Hall and Oates are at odds with each other. TMZ was the first to break the news that there was some grumbling in the Hall and Oates camp. According to TMZ, Daryl Hall filed a lawsuit — and a motion for a temporary restraining order against his former bandmate John Oates.
There have always been rumors of discontent in the Hall and Oates camp going back years. My wife who covers a lot of music told me that the pair enter separately onstage. They barely get pictures together as they stand separately on stage/ They also want to be billed separately not as Hall and Oates, but by their own individual names. We get it people evolve and get more mature, but it really sucks that such a duo that has meant a lot to their fans is now fighting.

John Oates has issued a social media statement calling for empathy, but avoiding the main issue of the moment: why he and longtime collaborator Daryl Hall are engaged in litigation.
The 75-year-old posted a Thanksgiving selfie Thursday, offering a message calling for worldwide understanding.

The 77-year-old Hall is suing Oates and has been granted a restraining order against his longtime bandmate. Lea Thompson and Stacey Farber shined in the new mystery series, The Spencer Sisters. The series combined light-hearted crime drama with family angst well.
The Spencer Sisters Season 1 Episode 1 introduced both Darby and Victoria Spencer and hinted at why they had been estranged.
As an introductory chapter, the series did a decent job previewing the issues our leading ladies may have and what motivated them to go into the private investigation business together.
The Spencer Sisters was similar to many of Canada's other breezy procedurals, where private investigators solve crimes, typically bloodless ones, with plenty of humor sprinkled in. It reminded me of Private Eyes, which made sense since Alan McCullough created and produced both series.
The CW was fortunate to pick this series up since programming was lacking this fall during the strike. It fits right in with their programming, and both actresses have a massive fanbase.

“The Afterparty” was originally written and announced as a film a decade ago, but Christopher Miller is happy the movie never got made. “I don’t think it would’ve been as good as the series version,” he tells Gold Derby (watch above). “One thing about it was it was something I wrote 10, 11 years ago now, and it was a fun script doing a ‘Rashomon’ murder mystery. But the issue was when we looked at it again, each person’s story only gets seven minutes in a movie version when you need to be under two hours. There wasn’t time to really dig deep into the characters and get to empathize with them and have fun with how they tell the stories.”

Starring Romane Denis (Slut in a Good Way), Brett Donahue (Private Eyes), Sehar Bhojani (The Handmaid’s Tale), and Stephen Bogaert (The Umbrella Academy).
The third feature from Canadian director Elza Kephart, Slaxx is co-written by Kephart and Patricia Gomez (Graveyard Alive), and produced by Gomez alongside Anne-Marie Gélinas, and executive produced by Shaked Berenson.

So it was only a matter of time that both of those traits would eventually find their way into ABC’s ‘80s-themed sitcom “The Goldbergs,” currently airing its seventh season. As seen in this exclusive clip premiering below, Oates will guest star on next Wednesday (April 22)’s episode (titled “Oates & Oates”) as a janitor who shows up just after Barry Goldberg (Troy Gentile)’s failed attempts to book Hall & Oates for a two-day Earth Day Telethon in an effort to impress his love interest Ren (Kelli Berglund.)
