Image
As Sarah Michelle Gellar gears up to reprise her role as Buffy Summers in Hulu’s revival of the iconic late-1990s, early-2000s teen fantasy horror series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, one original cast member is opening up about their role in the reboot.

So far, Gellar, who is also serving as an executive producer on the new Buffy series, is the only cast member from the original series set to return for the latest incarnation of the show. The show also starred Alyson Hannigan as Willow, Nicholas Brendan as Xander, David Boreanaz as Angel, and Anthony Head as Giles. For the first three seasons, the cast of Buffy also included Charisma Carpenter, who played the cheerleader Cordelia Chase, a member of the main friend group in the show.

Charisma Carpenter Addresses Whether She Will Be In ‘Buffy’ Reboot
Image
Charisma Carpenter addressed fan speculation she would be returning to the queen bee character that first catapulted her to fame in the forthcoming reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

In a TikTok video posted today, the actress — who appeared as Cordelia Chase in both the mothership series and Angel spinoff — debunked any rumors she would be in the new show.

“Hey, I get asked this a lot: ‘Are you doing the reboot?’ And I thought I would address it,” she began in response to a comment. “I am not in the reboot. I am not in the pilot. I don’t even know if the show has been picked up to go to series. I assume it will be.”

Carpenter then addressed the launch of her new Buffy rewatch podcast titled The Bitch Is Back, the name of which she dispelled was associated with any kind of return to the Buffyverse.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival adds Merrin Dungey, Audrey Hsieh, and Audrey Grace Marshall to the cast
Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy contre les vampires (1997)
Almost seven years ago, it was announced that a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was in development with Monica Owusu-Breen, co-creator of the TV show Midnight, Texas, writing, executive producing, and serving as showrunner. It was said that the new show would be “contemporary, building on the mythology of the original.” That project never made it into production – and earlier this year, it was revealed that we’re going to be getting a Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival instead, with Sarah Michelle Gellar returning to the role of Buffy Summers and Chloé Zhao directing the first episode. Since then, teenage actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Firestarter) has been cast as a new slayer (an introverted high school student named Nova)… and now, filming is underway! With cameras rolling, Deadline has learned that Merrin Dungey (The Lincoln Lawyer), Audrey Hsieh (Found), and Audrey Grace Marshall (The Flight Attendant) have joined the cast.

The latest casting update on Buffy the Vampire Slayer's reboot marks a reunion for a horror sequel, in addition to casting three more. Hulu is moving fast with its pilot for a Buffy reboot, which was announced earlier this year. Oscar-winning Nomadland director Chloé Zhao is directing the project, with Nora and Lilla Zuckerman penning the script.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is set to reprise her seminal role as Buffy Summers in a recurring capacity, as the focus turns to the teenage slayer Nova (played by Star Wars: Skeleton Crew breakout Ryan Kiera Armstrong). Chase Sui Wonders
Update: Chase Sui Wonders confirms Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot role
Chase Sui Wonders
Update: Chase Sui Wonders has confirmed to Deadline that she is joining the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. “Sarah Michelle Geller is just such a force to be reckoned with,” Wonders said. “We became fast friends on I Know What You Did last Summer. She’s an incredible woman and just a cool person, and she asked me if I wanted to do it. Then she told me about Chloe Zhao directing and the Zuckermans showrunning. And then Eric Kissack, who is actually our editor on The Studio, is also editing the Buffy series.“

Wonders naturally wouldn’t reveal much about her character, who is believed to be named Shirley. The role is expected to be a one-off guest appearance, so don’t get too attached. “What I can say is that it’s a very fun way to enter this series, and [Gellar] is on set every day, from as...

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale Set Video Reveals First Look At Ryan Kiera Armstrong's Slayer
Image
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, which reportedly has "New Sunnydale" as its working title, has started shooting in Los Angeles. With that comes what appears to be a first look at Star Wars: Skeleton Crew star Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the show's new lead slayer.

There have been some grumblings about the 15-year-old Armstrong being a little too young for this role, and she definitely looks like a high schooler here. However, it's worth noting that in the original series, Buffy Summers was also only meant to be 16, though Gellar was 20 at the time.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is reprising her role as Buffy in the series, which added Rakotohavana (Secret Society of Second Born Royals) as Hugo, Ava Jean (Law & Order: Svu) as Larkin, Sarah Bock (Severance) as Gracie, Daniel di Tomasso (Witches of East End) as Abe, and Jack Cutmore-Scott (Oppenheimer) as Mr. Burke earlier this week.

Sarah Michelle Gellar and New Buffy Star Team Up for Epic Vampire Slayer Training Video
Image
Sarah Michelle Gellar is already jumping into action with the new generation of vampire slayers as the upcoming Buffy series moves forward. Instead of a full reboot, this new show acts more like a sequel, following a fresh group of demon fighters led by Ryan Kiera Armstrong, known for her role in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.

The new Buffy series hasn’t officially been picked up yet but has received a pilot order from Hulu. It’s set to be directed by Oscar winner Chloé Zhao. The story will focus on Armstrong’s character, tentatively named Nova, while Buffy Summers, Gellar’s iconic role, will serve as a mentor. This makes sense since at the end of the original Buffy series, season 7, many new slayers got their powers, opening the door for this new chapter.

Sarah Michelle Gellar posted a 30-second Instagram reel showing her and 15-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong hammering through kicks, squats and mitt drills at Gauer Fitness, signing off, “Warrior 1 and 2 — we don’t sweat … we sparkle.” Within minutes the tag #SlayerTraining hit X’s trending list as fans replayed the clip frame-by-frame.

According to Deadline, Kingston Vernes has joined the cast in a guest role, with the possibility of becoming a series regular if the show gets the green light. He joins a growing roster of allies, Nova’s very own Scooby Gang, revealed just last week.

'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Revival Cast Rounds Out but No Old Stars Yet Announced
Image
The reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer seems to have rounded out its regular cast members, but the news is not exactly what fans really want to know about the new series reviving the 90s series.

Previously, it was announced that Gellar would be returning to her role as Buffy Summers and will be playing a mentor to the next generation of slayer, who will be played by Star Wars actress Ryan Kiera Armstong. The latest round of casting has added Severance star Sarah Bock as Gracie, Law & Order: SUV’s Ava Jean as Larkin, and Raven’s Home actor Faly Rakotohavana as Hugo, seemingly making up the new “Scooby Gang.”

The regular cast is rounded out by Jack Cutmore-Scott, who recently played Kelsey Grammer’s son in Frasier, as Mr. Burke – a possible replacement for Anthony Stewart Head’s Giles – and Daniel di Tomasso as a character called Abe. While...

Frasier star's major Buffy reboot role seemingly ends sitcom's hope for season 3
Image
Could this be the official last call for Frasier? While the sitcom reboot was canceled by Paramount+ after two seasons earlier this year, series star Kelsey Grammer announced plans to shop the series around to other networks and streamers to find a new home for season 3. However, that was months ago and there still isn't word on Frasier getting a second chance.

Most recently, TV Line shared that "there is still nothing to report" after over six months and counting since Frasier got the boot from Paramount+. To make the chances of the revival's revival even worse, the sitcom's stars are starting to move on, with one of them landing a major role in the potential Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot series that's in the works at Hulu.

No, Grammer hasn't landed the role as the modern Giles (though he does star in an upcoming Christmas movie releasing in theaters...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival adds five to the cast in series regular roles
Since then, teenage actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Firestarter) has been cast as a new slayer (an introverted high school student named Nova), and today, Deadline reports that five actors have been cast in series regular roles! They are Faly Rakotohavana (Unprisoned), Ava Jean (Law & Order: Svu), Sarah Bock (Severance), Daniel Di Tomasso...

'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Reboot Finds This Generation's Scooby Gang in 'Severance' and 'Frasier' Stars
Image
The class at Sunnydale High — or rather a version like it — has been named today, as the first roll-out of names added to the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer series has officially dropped. Joining the previously announced chosen one, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who will hold the title of slayer in the revamp, is a lineup of talent that includes Sarah Bock (Severance), Faly Rakotohavana (Unprisoned), Daniel Di Tomasso (CSI: Vegas), Jack Cutmore-Scott (Frasier), and Ava Jean (Law & Order: Svu). Should the pilot that’s headed for Hulu stick the landing (and we sure hope it does), audiences should prepare to see plenty of these faces as series regulars alongside Armstrong and the Og slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who reprises her role as Buffy Summers.

According to the early reports, Rakotohavana is on deck to appear as Hugo, a privileged and popular high schooler who has a zest for...

Frasier season 3 dealt more bad news after cancellation
Image
Dr. Crane's last show might really have been his last, even in spite of Frasier star Kelsey Grammer insisting the reboot series will find a new home for season 3.

After season 2 finished airing in November 2024, Paramount+ revealed that the Frasier revival series was officially canceled after two seasons in January 2025. However, Grammer wasn't taking the cancellation as the end of the road for his iconic character. He spoke in multiple interviews that he believed that the revival had been mishandled and under-promoted by Paramount+.

Grammer shared his intention to find a new home for a potential season 3 and seemed incredibly confident that he would be able to do so. By April, there still hadn't been a positive update about another streaming service or network saving the show, and now in July 2025, over six months after the show was originally canceled, the latest update might be the worst yet.

Today's a Sad Day for Frasier Fans
Image
It’s been more than six months since Paramount+ rebooted the classic Cheers spinoff, Frasier. The revival premiered 30 years after the original Frasier debuted on NBC. While the show was a ratings juggernaut in its heyday,Frasier is currently slipping down on the streaming charts.

Per FlixPatrol, Frasier, which streams on Paramount+, currently holds the sixth spot in Paramount+’s Top 10 television shows as of July 4. It’s down a spot from number five earlier this week. The sitcom, which ran for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004, has fallen behind Everybody Loves Raymond, which now holds the number five spot in the Top 10.

CBS’s mainstay procedural drama Criminal Minds holds the first place spot, followed by Showtime’s The Chi, which sits at number 3. NCIS and SpongeBob SquarePants hold the third and fourth place slots in the Top 10.

The Reboot Lasted Just Two Seasons

Frasier had a short-lived two-season revival on Paramount+. In the reboot,...

4 most egregious streaming TV show cancellations of 2025 so far
Image
Unfortunately, it's the season for television show cancellations, and we're going to start hearing about a lot of them. The broadcast networks will be pruning their lineups to make way for the new fall schedules, a process that has already begun. But over in the streaming world, that process happens year round, not just in May. So far, there have been a number of cancellations in 2025.

It's not all bad news, though. Plenty of streaming shows have already been renewed for new seasons this year, like Severance, Running Point, The Studio, School Spirits, Paradise, and more. Many streaming favorites are still awaiting word on their fates, but for some unlucky shows, their fates have already been decided... and it's not good news.

While there are many more cancellations worth getting heated over, like Prime Video's Clean Slate and Apple TV+'s Mythic Quest, these four cancellations were some of the...

"I'm Not Against It at All": Original 'Frasier' Cast Member Would Return if the Series Were Rebooted Again
Image
The Frasierrevival may have been cancelled at Paramount+, but if it finds a new home, Frasier Crane may just get a visit from his long-lost brother. David Hyde Pierce, who played Niles Crane on all eleven seasons of Frasier's original run, is open to a guest appearance on the series. Varietyreports that although Pierce turned down a regular role on the series, he'd be happy to drop in on Frasier's new Boston abode.

The series, which debuted in 2023 and ran for two seasons before Paramount+ cancelled it earlier this year, had Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) relocate to Boston to be closer to his firefighter son, Frederick (Jack Cutmore-Scott), in the wake of his father Martin's death. Several Frasier supporting and recurring characters have made appearances on the series, including Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin), Lilith Sternin (Bebe Neuwirth), Bob "Bulldog" Briscoe (Dan Butler), and Bebe Glazer (Harriet Sansom Harris), but Niles, who...

Frasier season 3 gets disappointing update about search for new home
Image
Frasier Crane might never learn what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs at this point. The iconic sitcom character returned in 2023, about 30 years since the original Frasier's premiere on NBC and nearly 20 since its ending, for a Paramount+ revival series.

Unfortunately, the revival wasn't able to match the success of its Emmy-winning predecessor and was canceled after two seasons. But even though the series was axed, that didn't mean it was necessarily the end of the road.

Kelsey Grammer was confident at the time of the revival's cancellation that he and CBS Studios, the show's production company, would be able to shop the series to other networks and streamers to find a fruitful new home.

Frasier still hasn't found a new streaming home

Since Grammer last spoke nearly two months ago about shopping Frasier and getting the sitcom saved for season 3, there hasn't been much movement. Well,...

Frasier Becomes a Streaming Hit Again 2 Months After the Revival's Cancellation
Image
The fate of the Frasier reboot remains unclear two months after Paramount+ canceled the new-age edition of the Kelsey Grammer-led sitcom. However, while producers try to find a new home for the revival, the original series becomes a hit on its streaming service, proving Dr. Crane's everlasting appeal to fans.

Per Flix Patrol, the Og Frasier has become a hit on Paramount+, ranking ninth on the streamer's Top 10 charts in the United States. The series is just above the 2023 supernatural teen drama series, School Spirits, in 10th place. Meanwhile, Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone spinoff, 1923, tops the list.

Frasier remains one of the most beloved comedies and successful spinoffs in history, with the series chronicling the titular radio psychiatrist who fans became familiar with during its parent show, Cheers. Frasier sees Dr. Crane relocate from Cheers' home in Boston to his native Seattle, where he emerges as a popular Kacl...

Frasier's Kelsey Grammer Confirms Unfortunate News for Cheers Fans While Teasing Ted Danson Reunion
Image
If the Frasier reboot continues, star and producer Kelsey Grammer believes an on-screen reunion is possible between him and his Cheers castmate Ted Danson in his rebooted sitcom. However, Grammer insists this won't lead to a Cheers reboot as he gives a definitive update on the hit parent series.

Speaking with the New York Post, Grammer explored the possibilities of a third season of his Frasier reboot, should it find a new home after its Paramount+ cancelation in January. According to Grammer, who claimed it's "very possible" the series will continue elsewhere, he suggested Danson could appear in Season 3 after the duo's recent public burial of the hatchet following their Cheers fallout. “Ted and I might visit actually something together,” Grammer said. “We’ve been talking about a couple ideas. Maybe on Frasier. We don’t know.” However, Grammer stated that "there’s certainly still some fields to be mined...

'There's a Better Home for It': Kelsey Grammer Calls Out Paramount+ for Canceling Frasier Reboot
Image
Acclaimed actor Kelsey Grammer believes there are plenty more tossed salads and scrambled eggs left to cook up as he provides a hopeful update about his canceled Frasier reboot. The lead actor and producer of the revived sitcom is confident that a third season of the revived show will happen and calls out Paramount for putting the series on the chopping block.

Speaking with the New York Post, Grammer addressed the status of the Frasier reboot, which Paramount canceled this past January after two seasons. Grammer stated he's "very positive" the series will air again. However, Grammer clarified his feelings about Paramount's treatment of the show, suggesting changing leadership led to the studio not treating it with the care it deserved, including a lack of marketing.

“There’s a better home for it. I mean, obviously, they didn’t really promote or spend much time on it," he said. “The...
