BritBox is bringing two more of Agatha Christie's iconic detectives to life with a twist. The streaming service has just greenlit a new six-episode miniseries centering on the crime-solving couple Tommy & Tuppence, but it'll unfold entirely in the modern day. It marks the first contemporary English-language television series adaptation of Christie's stories of the pair, and it also stands as the first television drama series commissioned for playwright Phoebe Eclair-Powell. Casting is still being finalized, but filming is set to get underway later this year with Happy Valley producer Lookout Point at the helm in association with Agatha Christie Limited.

Tommy & Tuppence Beresford first appeared in The Secret Adversary, Christie's second published detective novel from 1922, and they would continue to be some of her go-to sleuths throughout her career. In total, the couple appears in five of the legendary novelist's books, including four longer stories and a collection of short tales.

Exclusive: Tommy and Tuppence, Agatha Christie’s crime-fighting couple, are returning to the screen.

BritBox has greenlit a six-part series that will reimagine Tommy and Tuppence Beresford in the modern world, more than a century after they first appeared together in Christie’s The Secret Adversary.

The series will be made by Lookout Point, the UK producer behind Happy Valley. Phoebe Eclair-Powell (The Road Trip) has penned the drama, her first series commission for television.

To mark the release of the eagerly anticipated second season of The Devil’s Hour, on Prime Video, we had the pleasure in speaking to the show’s two leading stars; Peter Capaldi, and Jessica Raine.

The duo discuss the return of the show, and the development of their characters, and the complexities and challenges in bringing these well-fleshed out characters to life. They also talk about fan theories, and look back on other great characters they have to their name… including a certain Malcolm Tucker.

So much can change minute to minute in The Devil’s Hour, which deals with past lives, but one thing that will always remain constant, and does in Season 2 (premiering October 18 on Prime Video), is that Lucy (Jessica Raine) and Gideon’s (Peter Capaldi) relationship is one of very reluctant allies at best. “It was really different to Series 1 because obviously we were face-to-face in a cell, and Lucy assumed that Gideon had abducted Isaac [Benjamin Chivers]. So she was absolutely terrified of him, but wanted to get answers,” Raine tells TV Insider. Such is not the case in Season 2. The reason is slowly revealed in the first season, with the series continuing in season 2. This time, Lucy (Jessica Raine) and Gideon (Peter Capaldi) must form an uneasy alliance in order to prevent a recurring tragedy and hunt down an elusive monster.

Peter Capaldi is known for another role in which he travels through time, Doctor Who, but he is also a very recognizable actor with over one hundred roles under his belt. Jessica Raine is also no stranger to the screen, having most notably played Annie Quaintain in Jericho and Jenny Lee in Call the Midwife. The Devil's Hour season 2 will launch exclusively on Prime Video globally on Friday, October 18.

Amazon Prime Video has released the first trailer for their critically acclaimed series The Devil's Hour (2022). Stars Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who) and Jessica Raine will return as Gideon and Lucy for the supernatural crime thriller. Season 1 followed a social worker, Lucy Chambers, who has terrifying visions every night at 3:33 a.m., also known as "the devils hour", and explores her mysterious connection to a killer, Gideon Shepherd, his knowledge of Lucy, and the nightmarish phenomena she's experiencing.

Prime Video has released a new trailer for the supernatural thriller, The Devil's Hour, which is set to premiere its second season on the streamer on October 18. The trailer offers a return to Doctor Who's Twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi, as the Prime Video series makes its return after two years away. The trailer shows that the problems faced by Lucy Chambers, played by Jessica Raine, have not diminished since the first season. She still wakes up at exactly 3:33 Am every night after horrifying visions. Capaldi's Gideon Shepherd seeks to form an alliance with Lucy as they track down an elusive monster.

This new Brent is okay. Australian actress Felicity Ward has revealed Ricky Gervais “approved” of her interpretation of his iconic awful boss character in The Office.

Actor and comedian Ward is playing Hannah Howard in The Office Australia, which launches on Prime Video outside of the U.S. on October 18. Though the show has been remade in numerous countries, with the famous David Brent character reinterpreted many time, this marks the first time the gender has been changed.

Ward was appearing at the Prime Video Trailblazers event celebrating women in film and TV here in London today. “Ricky Gervais has approved of a female lead — he’s very excited about a female lead,” she half-joked to an audience today, adding: “Just in case anyone is angry.”

Amazon MGM Studios boss Jennifer Salke, Octavia Spencer and Priyanka Chopra Jonas were among the big names lauding the role of women in TV and film at a Prime Video event today.

“Women are at the core of our business – from our incredible actors, our inventive producers and our executive teams,” said Salke, at the Trailblazers event in Central London. The event saw multiple stars, producers and directors touching on issues such as pay parity and production, with several trailers and first looks also unveiled.

During a conversation with Academy Award-winner Octavia Spencer, Salke said the pitch for The Help star’s untitled comedy thriller series opposite Hannah Waddingham was among the best she had heard in her career.

“I have heard thousands of pitches, maybe tens of thousands, and it was a top three — the relationship of two women at the center with action, humor and heart,” she said.

Call the Midwife is a long-running British period drama that completed its 13th season in May 2024. The acclaimed TV series is set in the 1950s and 1960s, telling the story of Jenny Lee (Jessica Raine) and her close fellowship of female nurses and nuns who assist mothers during childbirth at a convent in London's East End. Once Lee leaves after Season 3, the drama focuses on the other midwives, including Jennifer Worth (Vanessa Redgrave), Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter), and many others.

With Call the Midwife recently renewed for two more seasons, questions about a supporting character named Lucille Anderson, a dutiful nurse who starred on the show between Seasons 7 and 12, have continued to swirl online. Jessica Raine left BBC's Call the Midwife after Season 3, and her character was written off of the show moving forward, leaving many fans questioning why the actress decided to leave the show.

The first 12 seasons of Call the Midwife were recently added to the Netflix library, meaning that a huge pool of people are getting the opportunity to witness the British drama for the first time.

The show follows a group of midwives living in East London as they navigate their lives and jobs in the 1950s and '60s. The previous season (Season 13) was released earlier in 2024, and Season 14 was recently announced to be airing in 2025.

My Lady Jane has sadly been added to the ever-growing list of streaming shows canceled after just one season. Despite being praised as one of the best shows of the year so far, the series didn't attract enough viewers to earn another season. While the story did end on a positive note, fans were understandably disappointed by the news, especially since the show only adapted the first half of the book on which it was based. The fanbase is already rallying to save the series, but as they wait to see if another platform will grant their wish, they might want to check out some other shows in the same vein.
