In 2003, during a historical ceremony at New York City's City Hall, Mayor Michael Bloomberg presented Kevin with an award for his literary contribution in the critically acclaimed book "Souls of My Brothers: Black Men Break Their Silence, Tell Their Truths and Heal Our Spirits." Kevin's co-authors in the book included San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, Jr., Busta Rhymes, Actors Mel Jackson and Obba Babatunde, Authors Smokey Fontaine, Terrance Dean and Heru Ptah, Congressman Gregory Meeks, fashion designers Michael Stoney and Shaka King, Music executive Antonio "L.A." Reid, chef Lyndsey Williams, award winning medical practitioner Dr. Sampson Davis, athletes Keenan McCardell and NBA veteran Jim Jackson.
