Since Spain has become a leading European production hub for global streamers, little wonder that the country’s most regular content suppliers for major players receive a spotlight at this week’s Content Americas 2025 in Miami.

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, some of the most awaited Spanish scripted productions will take center stage at the Miami-based TV market toplining the event Spain Upfront. Best of Spain’s New Content.

The Spain Upfront reunites key executives from four top Spanish distribution houses: Rosalía Alcubilla, head of global clients at pubcaster Rtve; Silvia Cotino, deputy director of sales and business development at Mediaset’s Mediterráneo; Miguel García, sales director of Atresmedia Sales, and Onza Distribution’s general manager Carlos Garde.

Audiovisual from Spain, operated by Spanish government export and investment org Icex, hosts the meet, moderated by Gloria Saló, director of content and production consultancy at Madrid-based firm Geca.

This 64th San Sebastian Film Festival (Sept 16-24) has revealed the line-up of Spanish titles that will play across its sections.

There will be a total of 15 Spanish-produced films on show, including four shorts.

Competing for the Golden Shell – the festival’s top prize – will be Alberto Rodríguez’s El Hombre De Las Mil Caras (Smoke And Mirrors), Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s Que Dios Nos Perdone (May God Save Us) and Jonás Trueba’s La Reconquista (The Reconquest), all of which are world premieres.

Transilvania Trophy goes to Spain

The Transilvania International Film Festival’s (Tiff) main prize went this year to Spanish film-maker Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s Stockholm as the week-long festival came to a close on June 8.

The second feature also picked up the Best Performance Award for leads Javier Pereira and Aura Garrido at the gala awards ceremony on Saturday evening (7).

Almost lost for words as he accepted the prize on the stage of Cluj’s National Theatre, an elated Sorogoyen (pictured) said that these were the film’s first international awards.

Stockholm previously earned best actress and new screenwriter honours in Malaga last year and a Goya this year for Pereira.

Tiff’s international jury including Chicago Film Festival director Michael Kutza, Nfts director Nik Powell and Hungarian film-maker Janos Szasz, presented their Best Directing Award to Poland’s Tomasz Wasilewski for his second feature Floating Skyscrapers and the Special Jury Award to Bulgaria’s Maya Vitkova for her debut Viktoria, which had its...

Miami unveils full line-up
Top brass at the 31st Miami International Film Festival (Miff) announced the full slate on January 28, which comprises 93 features and 28 shorts. The festival is set to run from March 7-16.

John Turturro will receive the career achievement award and the world premiere of Rob The Mob will screen as the Awards Night Gala, while the North American premiere of Michael Radford’s Elsa & Fred remake opens the festival.

Knight Competition entries include the world premieres of Marcelo Tobar’s Asteroid (Asteroide, Mexico) and Jorge Duran’s Memories Of The Desert (Romance Policial, Brazil).

Among the Knight Documentary Competition selection is Joe Berlinger’s Whitey: United States Of America v James J Bulger (pictured) and the North American premiere of Marianne Lamour’s The Art Rush (France).

Four entries compete for a total of $10,000 in the Lexus Ibero-American Opera Prima Competition for first-time feature filmmakers emerging from Spain, Portugal and Latin America.
