Val Kilmer’s Best ‘Heat’ Scene Had a Very Different Purpose Revealed by Michael Mann, 30 Years Later
In 1995, Val Kilmer starred alongside Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in a film titled Heat. Directed and written by Michael Mann, the film found worldwide fame for its shootout scenes and action.
It wasn’t any ordinary shootout scene that Michael Mann told Val Kilmer to copy from. The scenes in Heat where Val Kilmer is raining bullets on the police officers felt different than other movies, not because of the sheer amount of bullets that Kilmer was firing, but because he actually knew what he was doing.
Heat director reveals 95% people cannot do what Val Kilmer did in the 1995 film
Heat depicted the story of conflict between the Los Angeles Police Department detective Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) and a professional thief, Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro), and how it affected their personal and professional relationships.

Steven Spielberg's filmography as a director is long, but his resume as a producer is gargantuan (and definitely not as quality-consistent as his directing career). Case in point: He has executive produced all of the modern "Transformers" films, and recruited Michael Bay to direct the first one. Those movies are definitely more Bay, less 'Berg, but flashes of Spielberg's influence do show up.
The first "Transformers" film, especially, structures itself like "Jaws" and "Jurassic Park" (i.e. holding off on the spectacle in the first half). The heart of that film pulls from Spielberg's playbook as well, depicting an "E.T."-like friendship between Sam Witwicky (Shia Labeouf) and the Autobot Bumblebee.
"Transformers" wasn't the first time Spielberg was involved with a story all about evil cars. Spielberg's first widely-released feature film, 1971's "Duel," featured a menacing truck,...

Adam Driver was key to getting The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, Ferrari & Megalopolis produced. All three movies were ambitious passion projects for filmmakers Terry Gilliam, Michael Mann and Francis Ford Coppola. Coppola's Megalopolis is currently facing difficulties finding a distributor due to its experimental nature.
Megalopolis star Adam Driver is fast becoming the go-to actor for getting "unfilmable" movies made. Since his breakout on shows like Girls and supporting parts in the likes of Inside Llewyn Davis, Driver is now recognized as one of the best actors of his generation. It's a label that's hard to argue with when presented with Adam Driver performances like those found in Marriage Story or Ridley Scott's The Last Duel. The Star Wars sequel trilogy may have proven critically divisive, but even those who didn't enjoy the movies praised Driver's works as Kylo Ren.

Inside Out 2 director Kelsey Mann explains why the emotion Shame was cut from the movie. Mann revealed that the character wouldn't have been fun to watch and that he wanted the movie to be more rewatchable. It remains to be seen if Inside Out 2 has the emotional potency of the original movie.
The excision of one major Inside Out 2 has been explained by the director. The upcoming Pixar movie is a sequel to their 2015 Oscar-winning movie, which anthropomorphized the emotions in the head of an adolescent girl named Riley who was undergoing a tough transition after her family moved from Minnesota to San Francisco. The movie included the emotions Anger, Fear, Disgust, Joy, and Sadness, and the sequel will add an even more layered ensemble that includes Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment. However, the major emotion Shame, which was part of the original story, has been cut from the movie.

Riley getting older in Inside Out 2 meant that there would be some new emotions added to the mix. However, there was one that was meant to be featured that was cut from the final film, as it was just too dark for the animated sequel.
Speaking about Inside Out 2 with TheWrap, director Kelsey Mann confirmed that a new emotion, Shame, was cut from the story. The character was described as grey and "looking rather glum," and Mann said that Shame was "always a part of it." The problem was that the character was just a bit too depressing to include, getting to the point that it wasn't enjoyable to watch. Mann explains that Shame was ultimately cut out of concern it would leave filmgoers feeling uneasy afterward.

Inside Out 2 cinematographer Adam Habib revealed which Adam Sandler-led movies inspired some of the visuals of the highly-anticipated animated sequel. Habib had previously worked as the layout lead during the first installment’s production, and as the camera and staging supervisor for Riley’s First Date short.

Pixar Animation is all set to release the much-awaited Inside Out 2 in June of this year. Coming nine years after the first film, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, the sequel introduces new emotions in the protagonist Riley, who has to deal with a new phase of her life: teenage. Apart from regulars Amy Poehler and Phyllis Smith, the sequel sees Maya Hawke and Ayo Edebiri join the cast as new emotions.
Hawke voices the emotion of Anxiety in Inside Out 2, which enters Headquarters when Riley decides to try out for a hockey team. The makers reportedly did a lot of research on what kind of emotions a thirteen-year-old usually begins to have and fixed on a few, including anxiety. The makers also reportedly took inspiration from one Adam Sandler film to treat the visuals for scenes involving Anxiety.

Inside Out 2 will introduce Anxiety as one of Riley’s new emotions and rather appropriately, Pixar looked at Uncut Gems as a reference.
Inside Out may very well be one of the finest animated films of the last few decades and Pixar is currently busy getting a sequel, Inside Out 2, ready for release in June.
There’s a lot of pressure on Pixar and director Kelsey Mann to match Pete Docter’s brilliant first film, but the trailer looks pretty good. Adding to the hype, Polygon reports that the Safdie brothers’ Uncut Gems was one of the inspirations for Inside Out 2.
Polygon visited Pixar and not only got a good look at the upcoming sequel, but also chatted to many of the people working on it. Inside Out 2 will follow Riley as she enters her teen years and experiences a whole roster of new emotions.

Inside Out 2 will have new emotions for the lead character, Riley, and the team behind it explained how each emotion was chosen. The first animated film premiered in 2015, following 11-year-old Riley deal with emotions like Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust.
With Disney's new focus on sequels, Inside Out will receive a continuation this summer. The Pixar hit's original emotions are meant to make a return, but Inside Out 2 will show Riley, now 13, experiencing a new slate of feelings. Kelsey Mann will replace Peter Docter as director, and the cast features Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Paul Walter Hauser, and Adele Exarchopoulos.

When Pixar released "Inside Out" back in 2015, the studio introduced us to five core emotions inside the mind of Riley, an 11-year old girl leaving her hometown of Minnesota and moving with her parents to a new home in San Francisco. That came with a lot of complicated feelings, and the emotions of Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) helped Riley worked through all the hurdles, allowing the feelings to learn something about themselves and the girl they've nurtured over the years.
"Inside Out 2" is about to make Riley's life even more complicated by introducing some new emotions. Though Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust are all back, they have to deal with the arrival of Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser). Director Kelsey Mann carefully selected Anxiety, Ennui, Envy, and Embarrassment as new emotions for Inside Out 2 to depict teenage self-consciousness. Jedi Masters Avar Kriss and Elzar Mann may be the reason why the Jedi Order took a harder stance against attachments during the prequels. Avar and Elzar's forbidden romance in The High Republic Era is concerning as they're both on the brink of the dark side. Manhunter holds a fascinating place in the Hannibal Lecter canon. Released in 1986, it's the first time fiction's most famous (and beloved?) cannibal hit movie screens. No connectivity exists with the four subsequent films. The third outing by soon-to-be-heralded filmmaker Michael Mann, it met with a lukewarm reception. Almost 40 years down the road, the consensus puts Manhunter anywhere between "excellent" to "masterpiece" on the reexamination scale. For Mann aficionados, the film is a gold mine. For fans of a polite psychiatrist-turned-serial-killer, how does Manhunter fare as an adaptation? Not too badly — with some key caveats.

The sequel explores Riley's transition into her teenage years as new emotions enter the picture and the existing emotions are unsure how to feel about it. Pixar CEO Pete Docter teases that Inside Out 2 will have the same heart and emotion as the first film, maintaining the studio's commitment to universal stories about life issues we all face.

Over the first half of “Tokyo Vice” Season 2, Ken Watanabe’s harried detective looks, to put it mildly, like absolute dogshit. Puffy bags threaten to swallow his eyes. Peppered stubble creeps across his chin and cheeks. Watch closely and you’ll swear you can see his hair falling out, one withered strand at a time. At work, he’s been relegated to demeaning desk duty, promising clueless citizens he’ll find out where the yakuza has taken their cat. At home, he’s been living alone for months, smoking silently in an empty bed, gazing out into the darkness for any signs of danger — and danger is out there. His family is in hiding because, when not busy catnapping, the yakuza is threatening to kill them. If they feel Katagiri snooping around in their business,...

An action movie is created to excite and wow us, taking the audience on a rollercoaster ride to see if and how our protagonist — who may or may not be much of a hero — survives amid pure chaos. It’s also a genre that often strives to top itself. Many of our favorite films have found new ways to raise the bar, whether it be through the storytelling, cast, or sequences that completely change the game.
Den of Geek is celebrating 15 movies that looked forward, whether they were celebrated in their day as innovators or have been finally reevaluated years after release. Like the animated show, Mr. Peabody & Sherman follows Mr. Peabody, an anthropomorphic genius dog, and his adopted son, Sherman as they go back in time to learn about history. This time around, Mr. Peabody and Sherman must deal with time-jumping hijinks as well as their own complex father-son relationship. Mr. Peabody’s aptitude to be a father is called into question and a child protection agent is called to separate the pair, for good.

A lot of names have been bandied about to replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond. Henry Cavill. Tom Hardy. Idris Elba. But there’s one actor who’s already synonymous with the role, and he’s nothing if not available: Sean Connery.
Deceased actors have been brought back from the grave before: Carrie Fisher, Paul Walker, Peter Cushing and Harold Ramis, among others, have each been resurrected for the screen, with mixed results, thanks to old-fashioned CGI wizardry. But recent, startling advancements in artificial intelligence promise to deliver far more realistic results than ever before thought possible. According to the experts, the technology needed to create a totally believable deep fake 30-year-old Connery is just around the corner.

Last July, Michael Mann revealed to Empire that the Heat sequel — published in novel form the following August – was always intended to be a movie. Now, according to Deadline, Mann is making moves to have that happen, with Warner Bros. looking to back the film as it did the original and Adam Driver as Mann's chosen actor for one of the prime lead roles.
The 1995 original movie, a powerhouse of heist action, cat-and-mouse cops 'n' robbers confrontations and some of the best working actors still stands as one of the director's best. So naturally, a follow-up comes with all the anticipation and plenty of pressure.
Heat 2 the novel (which Mann co-wrote with Meg Gardiner) takes place both after and before the film in a Godfather Part II sequel-prequel structure, largely focusing on Detective Vincent Hanna (Pacino) and heist crew survivor Chris Shiherlis (Kilmer). But there is also a strand about...

Writer and director Michael Mann's Heat 2 is nearing development with Star Wars star Adam Driver set to star. Originally developed as the television movie L.A. Takedown, Mann later remade the script for 1995's critically-acclaimed crime film, Heat. Starring Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino, the action-thriller became a critical and commercial success, earning over $187 million at the box office.
Per Deadline, Heat 2 is close to starting development, with Driver attached to star as a younger version of De Niro's original character. The film will be an adaptation of Mann's original follow-up novel Heat 2, which tells both a prequel and sequel story. Written with co-author Meg Gardiner, the book hit the market last August and quickly became a New York Times bestseller. Michael Mann has a great script, and Warner Bros. has its head all the way up it.
Deadline has reported that a deal is close for a follow-up to Mann’s 1995 sleek L.A. cops-and-robbers epic, “Heat.” The project is based on the novel “Heat 2” that he and Meg Gardiner published last summer. Moreover, it looks like Adam Driver is in talks to play the criminal mastermind Neil McCauley, who was played by Robert De Niro nearly 30 years ago. The “Marriage Story” and “Star Wars” actor is, indeed, about a decade younger than De Niro was at the time, but “Heat 2,” following the path of the book, is both a prequel and a sequel. The novel was a number one New York Times bestseller.
While Driver is the only “firm attachment” for the not-quite-greenlit project, as per the trade outlet, word is that Ana De Armas is rumored to play...

New Delhi, April 4 (Ians) As conversational artificial intelligence (AI) becomes a talking point on social media, representatives from Indian schools and experts on Tuesday expressed divisive concerns over children’s exposure to the AI chatbot in the classrooms.
Schools around the world have already banned ChatGPT, citing concerns that the AI tool which has been helping people write poems, essays and even work papers, can provide inaccurate information and enable cheating.
According to Nikita Tomar Mann, Principal at Indraprastha Global School in Noida, as amazing and fascinatingly incredible as it appears, “ChatGPT is still at a nascent stage” for us to fully comprehend its ramifications.
“Schools must keep it at bay for the time being, till such time we understand its need and utility at the school level,” Mann told Ians.
Children should rather be trained to be doing their own research, assimilate information, and construct their own knowledge out of it.

We all knew what the main intention was from filmmaker Michael Mann when he and co-author Meg Gardiner published the “Heat 2” novel last August (You can read The Playlist’s review here). It was obvious they figured out how to make a follow-up film to one of the most beloved crime thrillers of all-time and wanted to test the waters first. Mann had confirmed his desire to turn the book into a theatrical release during the book tour last summer and now we have a credible status update of where things are at with that sequel.

Almost 30 years after the original, Heat 2 is in the works from writer-director Michael Mann, with Adam Driver in talks to star as Neil McCauley.
As Deadline reports, Warner Bros. — which distributed the original Heat — is in negotiations to develop Heat 2 based on the novel of the same name Mann published last year (order here). The book, co-authored by Meg Gardiner, is both a prequel and sequel of sorts to the original story, offering storylines involving Heat characters that occur before and after the events of the original film. Driver will play a young McCauley (first portrayed by Robert De Niro), meaning his casting relates to the prequel aspect of the story.
No other actors have been officially linked to Heat 2, but its dual storylines open the door to several more names. While De Niro originally portrayed the career criminal McCauley, Al Pacino played Lieutenant Vincent Hanna, the LAPD cop who...

This is not a drill: "Heat 2" may finally be happening. That's right, nearly 30 years after director Michael Mann delivered one of the greatest crime films ever made with 1995's "Heat," Warner Bros. is getting behind a potential new film. What's more, none other than Adam Driver is in talks to star. And that could just be the tip of the iceberg, but we'll get to that.
The news comes to us via Deadline, who confirms rumors that have been swirling for weeks regarding the status of the project. Warner Bros. is backing the development of the film, which would be based on 2022's novel "Heat 2," which was written by Mann and Meg Gardiner (read our review of it here). Driver, meanwhile, would star as a young Neil McCauley, who was played by Robert De Niro in the original. It's worth noting that Driver is currently working with Mann on "Ferrari,...

While Mann is still in the midst of post-production on Ferrari, the report states that the Heat sequel could be his next project; Not only that, but it also confirms that Adam Driver is in discussions with Mann to play young Neil McCauley, the character played by Robert De Niro in the original movie. Deadline says that the other Heat 2 casting rumors, which range from Al Pacino to Ana de Armas, haven’t been confirmed and that Driver is the only actor currently committed to the project.

The heat is on. A film adaptation of Michael Mann’s book “Heat 2” and the sequel to his seminal crime film “Heat” is quickly moving forward, with negotiations currently underway for Warner Bros. to acquire rights to develop the project and with Adam Driver in talks to star in the lead role, IndieWire has learned.
Mann, who produced, directed, and wrote the original film from 1995 starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Val Kilmer, is the driving force behind the project and is negotiating the rights for the film adaptation. He would be both writing the screenplay and directing the “Heat” sequel should a deal close at a studio. The film would closely follow Mann’s novel “Heat 2” that was a #1 New York Times Bestseller last year, and Mann has long hinted that a sequel to the film has been one of his passion projects.

For the Somewhat Inevitable But Still Crazy files, Deadline have learned Michael Mann and Meg Gardiner’s Heat 2 will fulfill its cinematic ambitions: Warner Bros. are courting Mann to adapt the sprawling novel as a sequel to his 1995 masterpiece. And per recent rumors it could mark a Ferrari reunion: Mann and Adam Driver have discussed him taking the Neil McCauley role (made famous by Robert De Niro) for its prequel sections, which in the novel concerned his days running operations in Chicago, staging a major heist in Mexico, and suffering personal tragedy. (It’s all very cosmic and Godfather II-like.)
That is the extent of solid news, though rumors pegging Driver have also suggested a few more key players: a returning Pacino for its sequel stretch, Austin Butler filling the Val Kilmer role therein, and Ana de Armas for an undisclosed part (though the book leaves room to guess). Crazy...
