This is such an unfortunate case of not having a singular vision and committing to it.
It had a really interesting setup, and greatly executed, but shortly it begun to fall apart.
I get the sense that one person had a great idea and then more people started contributing to make it more "accessible" to more audiences, resulting in a bland mixed soup.
Unfortunate, and doesn't seem that it will get any better looking at the cast.

The Last Frontier is ridiculous but it's also worth watching as long as you can turn your brain off and watch for fun. It gets better with each episode as the stakes rise. Jason Clarke, Haley Bennett and Dominic Cooper all give solid performances that make the show that much better. I like that's there's a big storyline that takes up the whole season while each episode focuses on a different inmate's manhunt and how they're brought in. It also shows how beautiful and dangerous Alaska is, a world that most of will never know. Overall, it's a fun action thriller that's a solid watch as long as you don't take it too seriously.
I'm about to finish The Last Frontier and while it's far from the best show I've seen this year it's edgy and suspense enough to hold your attention and for you to be entertained by it. It's about a U. S. Marshall (Jason Clarke) whose life is turned upside down when a plane full of violent inmates is deliberately crashed in the remote wilderness of Alaska. The CIA officer (Haley Bennett) is after one very dangerous person (Dominic Cooper) while the Marshall wants to bring them all in. The pacing could've been a little better and this probably should've been a 7 or 8 episode series instead of 10 but I still enjoyed it and never found myself bored.
Episode one reeled me in. It felt fresh and the fast-paced action kept me engaged till the credits rolled. It felt promiaing and so I continued to eps 02 thinking this was gonna be binge-worthy.
Episode 2, seemed like a filler, trying to establiah main characters and their motives. Allowing the audience to gauge who they would sympathize with for the rest of the show. This episode instead, felt like a stretched filler, a mixed bag that for some odd reason, I fell asleep aomwwhere at the halfway mark. There goes the plan to binge LOL. Anyway I managed to finish E02 but the inferest waned down. Ain't no way i'm gonna binge this.
The next day 1 progressed to E03. Boy this wa a mixed bag. Yes there were aome solid thrills but the dumb decisions by juat about every main character leads me to believe the writers are clueless on how to keep audience engages besides thoae dumb decisions and plot holes. Yes the dim-witted teenage son, the unstable female agent who loses her cool easily (twice), the weird dumb decision by whoever flew the chopper and other thinga that truly distract from the story. It's like the writers were making up the atory as the crew shot the film. Oh My... this level of absurdity is so far off from what E01 has us believe. And I still have 7 more episodes????
I am trying to decide when to attempt watching E04 onwards. Should I watch it while eating? Doing the diahes? Or background noise when driving?
Sorry Jason Clarke, you are the man! But this ain't something to carry by yourself. Haley Bennet ia auch a letdown (feels like she doesn't wanna be in this mini series) and dominic cooper doesn't win any hearts as a cold-blooded ruthless villain.
Maybe I'll revisit this review and edit it if it gets.
But believe me, those giving this overall review anything above 7 surely only watched episode 1.

Started reasonably well. I like Jason Clark so tried to stick with it but couldn't get past ep2. I was looking forward to some glorious scenery but that seemed to end after ep 1. After that the majority of scenes were indoors in various 'locations'. It is also preposterous that we are meant to believe that CIA agent Sidney Scofield trained 'Havlock'. She's way too young to have gained the qualifications and experience to pull that off.
