The Paris-based company is rebranding as Elev8on Management and has signed Lovecraft Country and Dexter: New Blood actress Jamie Chung for European representation at the same time. Perhaps most intriguingly, though, it has also launched an AI-powered talent assessment tool that will look to redefine how American talent is likely to fare in Europe.

The rebrand to Elev8on is a “transformation towards sharper, more global and visionary positioning at the intersection of talent management, packaging, and strategic innovation,” according to company CEO Florence Lamy and President Daniel Blanc. They told us the ‘8’ stands for “continuous growth, the transatlantic bridge we operate on, and the infinite potential of the talents we represent.”

Today, Apple TV+ debuted the trailer for the second season of Shape Island, the clever and inspiring stop-motion animated series based on the internationally bestselling Shapes picture book trilogy by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen.

The new season is set to premiere with all eight episodes on Friday, August 29, 2025.

The Emmy Award-winning series from Apple TV+ takes place on a charming island and invites viewers to join serious Square, intrepid Circle, and tricky Triangle as they dig up some fun, search for answers, and build on their friendship — all while learning how to navigate each other’s differences.

Here's some fowl news: Disney's beloved Moana franchise is making the leap from animation to live action next year, but Alan Tudyk won't be coming along for the ride. The actor and Mouse House voiceover star provided the clucks and crows for the title character's trusty rooster sidekick Heihei in the Oscar-nominated 2016 original and its box-office-record-breaking 2024 sequel. But the feathery baton will pass to another performer in the live-action Moana, due in theaters on July 10, 2026.

"Heihei will be played by someone else," Tudyk confirms to Gold Derby during a conversation about his Emmy-nominated voiceover role in the Disney+ series Andor. The actor adds that the "someone else" will be a female performer whose casting has yet to be revealed. "Everybody calls Heihei a chicken, even though he's a rooster," Tudyk jokes. "So it's about time they got an actress to put a little more 'chick' in the chicken."

The 2004 feature I, Robot will make its way to Hulu in July. I, Robot was generally well-received by fans and even got a handful of awards recognition, including an Academy Award nomination.

Walt Disney Animation Studios is paying tribute to female talent in art and animation at a one-of-a-kind exhibition during the Gran Canaria-based Animayo. From May 7-10, the exhibition Whimsy & Wonder will be exclusively on display during the fest.

Disney, an official sponsor this year, will celebrate the female artists who helped shape Disney’s visual storytelling for more than a hundred years. The 2025 Academy Awards have come and gone, and the anime community once more finds itself disappointed with no nominations within the field. The Oscars have had a long history of overlooking anime, but to be snubbed for another year—especially when Kiyotaka Oshiyama’s Look Back was more than eligible for the running—had anime fans everywhere shaking their heads.

Previous anime productions have snagged an Oscar in the past, however. Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away became the first anime feature to win an Academy Award in 2001, followed by The Boy and The Heron in 2024. In recent years, other Studio Ghibli productions and anime films have also contended for the entertainment industry's most coveted award, with some close to winning.

T.J. Miller has signed on to star in the upcoming independent techno-thriller A.I. Heart U, written and directed by Jason Cook. The film, which explores artificial intelligence and its impact on human relationships, features an ensemble cast that includes Zach Gilford, Heather Morris, Kayla Compton, and Jonathan Kite.

Miller will portray Marco, an eccentric AI tech partner, in what the filmmaker describes as a cautionary tale about artificial intelligence. “This is a cautionary tale about AI, but framing it as a tool, not an inherent evil. This is a story about a bad guy enabled by AI, kinda like Faust,” Cook said.

The project is being produced by Cook alongside Trent Garret under their newly formed Blue Collar Productions. A.I. Heart U is the first of four planned films in a fully funded slate from the company. The production has been underway in Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon.

Despite announcing plans for a Princess and the Frog series, titled Tiana, back in 2020, Disney has pulled the plug on the animated follow-up. In addition, Walt Disney Animation is scrapping all development plans for content on Disney+. Walt Disney Animation joins Pixar Animation, Marvel Studios, and Lucasfilm as divisions of the Walt Disney Company that are focusing less on streaming projects and reinvesting their energy in theatrical films, a far cry from where the studio was just five years ago.

Walt Disney Animation Studios has officially pulled the plug on its Tiana princess series as it abandons making original longform content for streaming, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

A spokesperson confirmed there will be some layoffs in its Vancouver studio as a result of this shift in business strategy. In addition to the Tiana series, the studio is also scrapping an unannounced feature-length project that was set to go straight to Disney+.

Tiana was first announced in December 2020, and was envisioned as a musical featuring Anika Noni Rose reprising her role as Tiana from the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog, the film centering on Disney’s first Black princess.

Sources close to the streaming series say that despite best efforts, including several changes to the creative team, Tiana ultimately could not get to where it needed to be given production costs.

The Oscars are coming up on March 3, and while Hollywood is buzzing with predictions, let’s take a moment to address the elephant in the Dolby Theatre, the Academy doesn’t always get it right. In fact, sometimes they get it so spectacularly wrong that fans are left questioning reality.

DreamWorks’ animated feature The Wild Robot boasts a nearly-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 97%, and now the Chris Sanders-written and directed film has been nominated for three Academy Awards. Per Deadline, Sanders, who watched the nominations from Tokyo, Japan while touring with The Wild Robot, said getting the news of the film’s three nominations was “amazing.”

“(On Monday) we were screening the film and introducing it to the very first audience here, and now to get this nomination has been amazing. Three nominations, it’s incredible,” Sanders said of the film that is based on the series of books of the same name by Peter Brown.

Disney has always had a presence in the animation space. Evidently, that is where they started, and while the initial growth was slow and steady, recent decades have seen the company advance from being a notable presence, to pretty much dominating the market.

‘Big Hero 6’ was the first Marvel Comics animated theatrical release. It was a highly successful release thanks to an engaging mix of action, humor, and heart. Audiences loved the lovable character Baymax, who brought warmth and compassion to the film. The animation, fast pace, and emotional depth made it enjoyable for both kids and adults, earning it strong reviews and a high approval rating.

The movie was released more than 10 years ago and although a sequel was discussed a lot of times the movie is still a single release. After all, why shouldn’t the movie get a sequel, it was a great origin story.

Co-director Chris Williams said that a great movie starts with a great story. He believes the crew and the audience, who love Disney animation, both deserve a good story and that was one of the necessary things for the sequel – an equally good story as the first installment.
