Appreciate this film for what it is: fun, mindless, action-filled entertainment. No need to dissect, analyse or compare this. My only few complaints are that the writing was too loose and should have been edited down by 15-20 mins to keep the pace more elevated throughout. Also, not a fan of the Energyne CEO sister and brother characters - they were way too cheesy and annoying and cheapened the film. All other actors were cast and performed great, and Dwayne entertained as always. The SFX/VFX were also great. A fun and well deserved 8/10 from me
Based on the 1986 video game of the same name Rampage is the mindless cgi filled take your brain out movie you'd expect, but has a bit of charm to it (Bit).
I played Rampage as a kid, it was one of those fantastic games that got sequels but nothing that followed ever came close to meeting its quality. But it had no story, it was devoid of plot! So how could you possibly make a movie based on it over 30yrs later?
Well they did and the story is thinner than Kate Moss's waistline. It tells the story of everyones favourite wrestler turner actor the Rock chasing after the genetically modified gorilla he saved years before. Cue cgi, chaos, monsters, falling buildings, explosions and all the usual tropes.
With all three original monster George, Ralph and Lizzie (Though nobody acknowledges Lizzie's name) it's about as loyal as it can physically be considering the lack of material to actually work with.
I still can't get my head around why they would make it? Whats next? Tetris? Lemmings? Worms? Roland on the Ropes?
It's big, it's shiney, it's overbudget and it's as dumb as they come. Generally I despise films like this and consider them to be a problem within the industry but credit where credit is due Rampage does have some redeeming qualities.
Some of the humour is on point, it's heart is in the right place and Jeffrey Dean Morgan steals the entire film.
Passable stuff if you can get past the sheer unadulterated stupidity of it all.
The Good:
Jeffrey Dean Morgan
A few nods to the video game
The Bad:
Dumb beyond belief
Simply shouldn't really exist
Things I Learnt From This Movie:
Jeffrey Dean Morgans face should be in the dictionary next to awesome, amazing and godlike.
Forgetting Lizzie's name is just lame
Genetic engineering turns wolves into porcupines and squirrel monkeys
I suddenly want to play the original game!

I'm not familiar with the game and watched the film without knowing its origins. For those Gen Xers who recall the original Godzilla, you'll be having a bit of deja vu with this film. The Rock always draws an audience despite being on the wrong side of politics this year. Men like that are still attractive and that's really all they're good for. That's sarcasm, for those getting all worked up.
The film itself had some well-placed humor though nothing too overt. George, the albino gorilla, relaces the family dog here in the sense that he's the cutie pie that makes it a good ending as the film wraps up. Johnson delivers his usual testosterone & brawn surrounded by what I can only describe as massive CGI-created chaos. For being 2018, I was actually slightly disappointed in the quality. The monsters, including the mutated gorilla, didn't move as realistically as I expected. Perhaps the technical team was going more for detail in the features, which were impressive.
People call the plot thin but I'm just wondering what plot they're looking for in a film about monsters destroying a city. This one does an acceptable job of imagining a private engineering company launches a space craft into orbit in an attempt to ensure their experiment is contained away from mankind. That doesn't go to plan.
There is a handful of main actors who all sell their character successfully.
It's not a film most adults would pay to see without at least one teen egging them on. It's entertaining as an unpaid offering on Freevee.

Ok, let's see. A movie based on an incredibly simple video game about monsters climbing buildings and eating people.
Do people go in thinking it's going to be Oscar material?
I love Godzilla. I love Kong Skull Island, Pacific Rim, you get the picture.
It's a giant monster movie with The Rock and Negan in it. And it is a barrel of fun.
The humor is good, the effects are great, the story is interesting, the pace is fast, the characters are fun.
If you can turn off your brain and just have a good time, you'll love this.
For people saying they hated it, I have to question their reasoning for spending money on a movie that is clearly laid out by the trailer and premise alone.
If you didn't enjoy it, what on earth did you expect?????

Rampage is an unpretentious fun popcorn film. It is worth it just to see a three way fight between a DNA altered Gorilla, Wolf (who can fly) and an Alligator.
Dwayne Johnson is primatologist Davis Okoye. He is also ex special forces and he once saved an albino silverback gorilla George when it was a baby out in the wild as its mother was slaughtered by game hunters.
When some highly sensitive and dangerous samples that are experimented up in space land on earth, the infected animals grow in size and mutate.
George mutates, he grows in size and strength and heads for Chicago with the others because of a single transmitted by the corporate villains who are conducting the illegal experiments. Davis helped by a genetic engineer Dr Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris) need to track down an antidote to control George and stop the rampage which is destroying Chicago.
The film has shades of King Kong and Godzilla. The villains who are siblings are rather cartoonish but Malin Akerman seems to be having fun.
It is not a deep film, the script is not great but it is a mindless, cheesy and enjoyable film with plenty of mayhem.

Take a look back at The Rock's career in photos.
¿Sabías que…?
- TriviaDavis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson) signs to Pablo to calm the gorilla down, signing "It's me." The sign he makes is for "rock," a reference to Dwayne Johnson's nickname "The Rock."
- ErroresKate carefully pulls on a rubber glove to pull the antidote out of cryogenic storage and then promptly touches the vials within with her bare hand. They would have been equally cold and at least frost bitten her fingers if not worse.
- Citas
Davis Okoye: Even assholes deserve a second chance.
- Créditos curiososThe main title doesn't appear until just before the end credits and, aside from the production logos, there are no opening credits.
