Dcu’s Superman completed three weeks at the cinemas and shows a stronghold. It will soon outrun the trending dinosaur movie as one of the top 3 highest-grossing films of the year. The Dcu movie will hold on to its title as the highest-grossing comic book film of the year. It has recorded one of the biggest fourth Fridays among 2025 and DC movies. Liam Neeson plays Frank Drebin Jr. in The Naked Gun from Paramount Pictures. © 2025 Paramount Pictures. All Rights Reserved
Liam Neeson is stepping into some legendary shoes with the new Naked Gun reboot. Much like Leslie Nielsen in the original films, the Zaz team — director David Zucker and co‑writers Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker — once transformed a dramatic actor into a comedic icon, and now Neeson is taking on that same challenge.
Now, history is repeating itself with Liam Neeson taking on the role of Frank Drebin Jr. in the new Naked Gun reboot. Like Nielsen before him, Neeson has built a career on drama and high‑octane action, but very little comedy. And, just as it did with Nielsen, playing against type makes Neeson’s performance even funnier than audiences might expect.
So why did the acclaimed actor choose to take on such an unexpected role at this point in his career?...

Today, we’re putting our best effort into making you watch The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! for the first time, or maybe even rewatch this cult classic for the umpteenth time. Because this movie is pure comedy gold, packed with a myriad of one-liners that are known to leave fans in stitches, and it deserves a re-watch after over three decades.
Released in 1988, this masterpiece starring Leslie Nielsen is the kind of movie where logic takes a backseat and absurdity takes the wheel. In the movie, Nielsen’s character, Detective Frank Drebin, isn’t just a cop; he’s a walking disaster with a police badge. And somehow, every time he opens his mouth, comedy magic happens.
Whether he’s barging into a press conference or accidentally causing ruckus, he delivers some of the best deadpan humor ever filmed. So, we’re here to celebrate the...

Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson aren’t exactly the kind of couple anyone saw coming. One’s an iconic blonde from the beachside slow-mo runs of Baywatch, the other’s a deep-voiced action hero with a very particular set of skills. On paper, their worlds don’t quite collide. But Hollywood has always had its own ways of writing love stories, both onscreen and off.
While Anderson’s past has been filled with headline-hitting romances and Neeson has kept things quietly under wraps since his heartbreaking loss more than a decade ago, a new buzz is now swirling around them. They’ve teamed up for The Naked Gun, and let’s just say, something more than just professional chemistry might be brewing behind the scenes.

Although Sinners has landed among the top box office releases of 2025 so far, Machine Gun Kelly had his reasons for passing up a role in the film.
The Grammy nominee recently claimed he was “supposed to” audition to play a vampire in writer/director Ryan Coogler‘s critically-acclaimed supernatural period piece about two brothers taking on blood-sucking neighbors in the South.
“Like Sinners, I was supposed to be in that,” said Kelly on The Pat McAfee Show, according to Billboard. “The vampire, they had me set up to do the audition — it’s the one that’s in the house, so he’s the second vampire, the one that the guy comes and eats the family. In the audition, he has to say the ‘n-word’ and I wouldn’t do it.”

The new Liam Neeson-starring take on The Naked Gun is earning rave reviews, either because that movie’s just that good, or film critics are all secretly in the pocket of Big Spoof.
But one person who won’t be watching the new movie is David Zucker, the director of the original Naked Gun, and to a far lesser extent, that movie in which the ghost of General Patton scares a Michael Moore lookalike into loving ‘merica.
Zucker has been highly critical of the reboot in the press, telling Fox News that “just being a fan” of the earlier movies doesn’t guarantee success. He’s also stated that he will never see the new film because he’s “not going to spend any time on it.”
In a new interview with The Telegraph, Zucker confirmed that he still has no plans to see 2025’s Naked Gun, likening it to a previous,...

More than 30 years after the “Naked Gun” franchise enjoyed its “Final Insult” in 1994, arguably the world’s most beloved slapstick spoof film series is back for another slice of straight-faced silliness — and to test the contemporary box office waters of big-screen comedy.
Leslie Nielsen, whose legendary turn as bumbling L.A. detective Frank Drebin still has fans merrily reciting his most famous lines, died in 2010. For Paramount’s new reboot “The Naked Gun,” out Aug. 1, Liam Neeson has been recruited to follow in the Canadian icon’s deadpan footsteps as his equally incompetent (but decidedly less silver-haired) detective son, Frank Drebin Jr.
Also starring Pamela Anderson and directed and co-written by The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer, the legacy sequel to the original three films is awash in visual gags, absurd one-liners, terrible driving, comically Ott action scenes, sexual innuendo, at least one montage featuring an angry snowman and more...

Liam Neeson gets candid about leading Taken’s action franchise while promoting The Naked Gun. The actor is known for his commanding on-screen presence, starring in films such as Schindler's List, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Batman Begins. However, Neeson has also shown a more light-hearted side in films like Love Actually alongside various comedy movie cameos.
Recently, Neeson has caused a stir with his latest movie, The Naked Gun, an action comedy serving as a legacy sequel and the fourth film in The Naked Gun franchise. In fact, 2025’s The Naked Gun debuted with a fantastic Rotten Tomatoes score, scoring 90%. However, that hasn’t stopped Neeson from reflecting on his most iconic action movie role.
In a New York Timesinterview, Neeson looked back on his defining role in Taken, stating, “I was a tiny bit embarrassed. Don’t get me wrong, I did love the script.

Plot: Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson) runs afoul of an evil tech genius (Danny Huston) while being aided by a mysterious femme fatale (Pamela Anderson).
Review: I did something I hadn’t done in a long time at the early screening of The Naked Gun I attended earlier this week — I laughed myself silly in a movie theatre. It’s been years since I’ve seen a movie this funny theatrically, and boy did I miss the sound of a theatre full of people cackling so loud I occasionally missed a joke. I’ve missed comedy, and this was a really good one.
I’ll admit, I was wary of a Naked Gun reboot. I love the original movies (even the much-maligned third), but it’s been a while since anyone did a laugh-a-minute spoof like this. That said, director Akiva Schaffer turned out to be the right guy to tackle the formula.

Henry Cavill’s name has been drawing attention again after being replaced as Superman by David Corenswet but his earlier work is finding a fresh audience. Nearly two decades ago, he appeared in The Tudors, a historical drama that has returned to streaming charts. Cavill shared the screen with Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Anthony Brophy in the story of a young king consumed by his pursuit of a male heir.
All four seasons are now available on Prime Video and Paramount+ in the United States, while the show is trending internationally in places like the Netherlands and Taiwan, per Collider. This article contains spoilers for "The Naked Gun."
It almost seemed like a grave mistake to revive a long dormant franchise whose comedic identity revolves around the impossible-to-recreate screen presence of Leslie Nielsen, but rest assured, it's a glorious new day for "The Naked Gun" series. In the Akiva Schaffer-directed reboot of the same name, Liam Neeson embraces his sillier side as Frank Drebin Jr., the equally destructive offspring of Nielsen's character. After spending the latter half of his film career playing older tough guys, Neeson gets to channel that energy into an incredibly funny performance that honors his cinematic daddy without outright copying him. His comedic turns in "The Lego Movie," "A Million Ways to Die in the West" and a scene-stealing cameo in "Ted 2" were all warm-ups for a film that could easily guide Neeson into the next phase of his career. But he's not...

Paramount’s new iteration of The Naked Gun, starring Liam Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the late Leslie Nielsen’s Frank Drebin, and Pamela Anderson, is getting mostly positive reviews from critics ahead of its Friday theatrical release.
The fourth film in the franchise, coming more than 30 years after the last movie, 1994’s Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult, was directed by Akiva Schaffer, who wrote the screenplay with Dan Gregor and Doug Maud. It may be Superhero Summer with movies like Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps dominating the box office charts, but one of the steamy season’s most anticipated comedies, The Naked Gun, is ready to rake in millions for the genre. According to analysts, The Naked Gun is targeting a $15-$17 million debut from 3,300 locations. The amount is a decent bit of scratch for a rebooted comedy, especially as the genre struggles at the box office. As Liam Neeson points out in a recent Naked Gun PSA, comedy films don’t perform in theaters like they used to, and if we want movies like The Naked Gun not only to exist, but succeed, we need to show up to the cinema when it counts.
Here’s the official synopsis for The Naked Gun:
“Only one man has the particular set of skills… to lead Police Squad and save the world!

Early on in the new version of “The Naked Gun,” there’s a moment that gives you that old “Naked Gun” feeling. Sgt. Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson), a veteran L.A. cop of unorthodox methods, has just surveyed the scene of a fatal car crash that may have involved foul play. It’s time for the wrecked car to be hauled away, so to accomplish that task they use a vehicle attached to what looks like a giant version of one of those mechanical claws in an arcade game. The claw lifts the car halfway up and then, at the crucial moment, drops it. The joke is that Drebin and his colleagues all let out a disappointed “Ohhhhhh!,” the way a million parents have when the claw guided by their 7-year-old drops the plushie toy it’s trying to hoist (as happens just about every time). In its patented absurdity,...

For a character whose whole identity revolved around being a bottomless drunk, Charlie Harper rarely faced the consequences of his problematic lifestyle, which wasn’t surprising as at the end of the day, it was just a sitcom. On the flip side, Charlie Sheen, who led a similar lifestyle, often found himself in the media crosshairs, and it’s not hard to see why.

At one point, certain experts speculated that Harper’s manic outbursts, which contributed to his firing from Two and a Half Men, might’ve been a result of a psychological disorder, and Sheen himself later acknowledged this concern.

As Paramount gears up for the theatrical release of its The Naked Gun revival in August, the future of scripted comedy was under scrutiny at the Avp Summit producers’ event in northern Italy on Wednesday.
Former Paramount exec Gary Lucchesi, who oversaw the production of the original The Naked Gun movies in the 1990s, chaired the talk, having suggested the topic on the basis of his own desire to see comedies back on the big screen again.
He was joined by The Idea Of You producer Jordana Mollick, co-founder of comedy-focused Semi-Formal Productions with filmmaker Michael Showalter; former Funny or Die execs Mike Farah and Joe Farrell, who now work as independent producers, as well as Italian producer Verdiana Bixio, whose company Publispei is currently filming a reboot of the popular comedy show I Cesaroni.

"For the price of one movie ticket, and you can help rescue a comedy. And in the process, you'll get to share a smile, a laugh, and the occasional groan with the people in your very own community. Right now there's a comedy movie that needs you..." Ha ha. Paramount has debuted a funny fake (or is it?) PSA video for The Naked Gun movie, directed by the comedy mastermind Akiva Schaffer. The video features Liam Neeson trying to convince you to buy a ticket and help save comedies in Hollywood because less & less of them are being made nowadays. (It's true!) "A Naked Gun for the modern age — only in theatres August 1st." Watch the full trailer here. Liam Neeson stars in this as Lt. "It's really wild. It's just one laugh after another." Paramount has unveiled a series of promo featurettes for the upcoming comedy reboot The Naked Gun, directed by the comedy mastermind Akiva Schaffer. Their opener "Absurdist comedy is back! A Naked Gun for the modern age — only in theatres August 1st." Watch the full trailer here. Liam Neeson stars in this as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., son of the original Frank Drebin, played by comedy maestro Leslie Nielsen. Joining the case are Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Cch Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, & Danny Huston. The three original Naked Gun movies are some of the funniest ever made – for real. So much absurdly dumb humor. Thankfully this also looks hilarious! Only one man has the particular set of skills... to lead Police Squad and save the world! This promo shows some behind-the-scenes but mainly has the cast...

The cast and creatives behind The Naked Gun wanted to bring back the energy of the Leslie Nielsen classic for a new generation. Directed by The Lonely Island's Akiva Schaffer and Executive Produced by Seth MacFarlane, The Naked Gun introduces Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen's Frank and the successor to his role as an officer in Police Squad. Played by Liam Neeson, Frank Jr. is a chip off the old block — quickly proving to be as silly, unpredictable, and chaotic as his father.
In a BTS promotional clip for the movie released exclusively on Screen Rant, Schaffer and MacFarlane reflect on the legacy of the original Naked Gun films and bringing that comedic sensibility to 2025. In the clip, Schaffer described Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson as the perfect stars to infuse the absurd broad comedy with the right amount of gravitas to seal the joke.

30 years ago, The Usual Suspects arrived in theaters and drove pop culture completely wild with its mad genius. Written by Christopher McQuarrie, Suspects won him an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay while Kevin Spacey won another for Best Supporting Actor.
Meanwhile, whoever said it takes two to tango must not have met Tom Cruise. The powerhouse actor is single-handedly capable of reviving the cinematic industry through sweat, blood, and tears. There isn’t a single genre that Cruise has not indulged himself in, and continues to remain marvelous as ever in every single one of them.
The only thing now missing is an Oscar to make his career complete. And it looks like that, too, will be an easy task for the eclectic star, considering his current relationship with McQuarrie.

Helldivers 2 players are exercising their right to vote, but the results are predictably dumb so far. The Super Earth megacity of Remembrance has been rebuilt following its destruction during the Illuminate invasion, which has also resulted in a wacky Warbond on the horizon. With a new dawn coming for the restored megacity, the Ministry of Truth has put its new name to a vote.
Ever diligent in their roleplaying as the Ministry of Truth, the developers at Arrowhead Game Studios have opened a new channel on the official HelldiversDiscord server with the express purpose of voting on a new name for Remembrance now that it "will be reborn." Players have five options when voting for a new megacity name: New Remembrance, Everlasting Memory, Peacebeacon's Bloodlight, Winds of Change of Tides of War, and Gun. Brad Pitt’s F1: The Movie had everything going for it: star power, sport at peak hype, and real grid footage. While the engines roared, many fans couldn’t help but stare at the way the film handles its female characters. Kerry Condon’s Kate McKenna had promise as F1: The Movie‘s first female tech director, until she was reduced to a one-night stand with Pitt’s washed-up racer. Yep, and fans can’t stop to bash her character’s arc, stating,
She basically risked her career to have an affair with a guy who wasn’t going to stay for longer than a season.
And it’s not just McKenna, every female role in F1: The Movie feels like a checkbox. And honestly, given it’s Pitt’s movie and comparing it to his other movies, especially Top Gun: Maverick, where Monico Barbaro’s Phoenix was a standout,...

We Star Trek fans always end up having a favorite character, no matter which series we watch. Some seek out the uncommon alien, such as Spock, Neelix, or Quark, while others enjoy the fallibility of human characters, like the original series Enterprise navigator, Pavel Chekov.
Chekov joined the Enterprise crew in season two of the original series to bring a sense of youth and playfulness to the bridge, and to draw in younger viewers (especially teenage girls). He had some great moments, so let’s take a look at four episodes where our resident Russian stood out, made us laugh, and even showed us his softer side.

Filmmakers like Mel Brooks and the trio of David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker (also known as Zaz) once made spoofs the cream of the comedy crop with hits like "Young Frankenstein," "Blazing Saddles," "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun." Sadly, the popularity of "Scary Movie," a truly great horror parody from 2000 that followed in similar footsteps and kicked off a franchise of its own, resulted in a swath of far worse copycats from two of the film's co-writers, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. "Date Movie," "Epic Movie," "Disaster Movie," "Vampires Suck," and more all tried to cash-in on spoofing popular blockbusters of the time, but the comedy left plenty to be desired, and the poor reception essentially killed the greatness and the appeal of spoof comedy — at least for a little while.

For her next role, Pamela Anderson is cutting loose. Earlier this year, the actor made a major comeback with a stellar turn in Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl, displaying significant dramatic chops and entering awards consideration. Soon, though, she’s trading seriousness for silliness in The Naked Gun, starring opposite Liam Neeson in Akiva Schaffer’s reboot-quel. While Neeson is playing Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen’s original cop, Anderson is Beth – a femme fatale who has Drebin investigating the murder of her brother.
For Anderson, starring in a Naked Gun film is something of a full-circle moment – since she nearly made an appearance in the original trilogy decades ago, in 1994’s The Naked Gun 33 1/3. “The part that Anna Nicole [Smith] played, I almost played,” Anderson reveals to Empire. “It was just scheduling. I couldn’t do it. But it’s good: I’d rather play this role.

Judging from the trailers, the upcoming Naked Gun reboot is seemingly going to be chock-full of references to the original movie trilogy, up to and including a brief, photographic cameo from late accused murderer/prank show auteur O.J. Simpson.
But will the new movie include an appearance from the one living celebrity who’s been in every other installment of the Naked Gun series and wasn’t married to Elvis?
As you may remember, early in 1988’s The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, Frank returns from his jurisdictionally-questionable trip to Beirut and discovers a crowd of reporters and fans waiting for him at the airport. Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were fierce rivals earlier in their career, and their rivalry took a new turn with the release of F1, directed by Top Gun: Maverick helmer Joseph Kosinski. As a result, the two films have been frequently compared, especially because of their visual style and flamboyant lead characters.
While the Pitt-led movie is lacking in some departments when compared to one of Cruise’s biggest blockbusters, F1 is proving to be a tough competition at the box office. F1 Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Damson Idris
Director: Joseph Kosinski
F1 Movie Review Out (Photo Credit –Facebook)
What’s Good: The visuals are just really impressive, and every single race in the film feels like a huge event.
What’s Bad: The script is very bland in general, with tons of exposition and watered-down character development to fill the space between the races.
Loo Break: The film is, indeed, a bit overlong, so there are a couple of character scenes that could be missed on the way to the big racing moments.
Watch or Not?: Yes, this is a must-watch on the big screen, especially if you are a fan of racing or impressive visuals.
Language: English (with subtitles).
Available On: Theaters
Runtime: 156 Minutes.
User Rating:
Hollywood is in shambles with fewer and fewer people going to cinemas, and while there are many reasons,...

Video games are a rather fascinating piece of media, largely thanks to their interactivity. This level of interaction is simply absent in alternative forms of media, and is what makes games unique. Naturally, this extends into game mechanics as well, many of which can be rather obtuse and often, remarkably ingenious too.
Unfortunately, many of these additions have proven to be one-trick ponies, much to the disappointment of many. These genius game mechanics never made their return to other titles, which would have otherwise resulted in a massively revamped experience.
Game mechanics we wish developers would add to modern games
You can find a list of the most popular video game mechanics that have either been lost to time or locked behind some asinine copyright wall that prevents them from being carried over to modern titles:
