Another Bad Luck For Jacob Tremblay
This movie is another example of Jacob Tremblay being plagued with bad directors because once again, Jacob was underutilized in his own co-lead movie. I'm even betting that the horror movie that Jacob directed in Prodigy Camp in August 2024 was better than this one.
There was so much potential for his character Samuel Brass, but they intentionally withdrew from doing anything good with him. His character portrayal is lacking so much consistency along with confusing temperaments, and add on top of that, a terrible character arc.
One time he's trying to be a bully, another time he's being pouty, and another time he's suddenly a compassionate person. His character simply can't make up his mind. He's just there to cover up what's missing in the plot having no self-originality and going nowhere. What were the writer and director doing? Sam's arc was a mix of being so forced and all over the place.
Jacob Tremblay is one of the best young actors of the industry, but the bad writing and directing was as if made to ruin his image. Make no mistake, I love watching Jacob in every moment of the movie, but his scenes could've been done way better than this.
The takes were terrible as if they're trying to fit a quarter of the movie in a single day - as if this movie made in four days. Jacob's takes should've had been repeated. His scenes looked as if they were only rehearsing and not actually filming the movie at all. It was 100% not Jacob's fault why it was terrible; it was all the incompetent writer and director's fault.
