Adam Sandler is having a great summer so far, and it’s not just because of his long-anticipated Happy Gilmore sequel, Happy Gilmore 2. Another Sandler sequel movie is climbing up Netflix’s Top 10.

Per FlixPatrol, Grown Ups 2, which was released in 2013 and is a follow-up to 2010’s Grown Ups,is in the No. 9 spot in Netflix’s Top 10 as of Aug. 2. Sandler fans seemingly can’t get enough of the funnyman, as Happy Gilmore 2 is the No. 1 movie on the streamer and the first Grown Ups film is in the No. 7 spot. Even his 2018 animated movie, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, is in the top 10, ranking in a respectable third place.

Kevin James is a henchman trying to quit the mob in the first trailer for Guns Up. The movie marks the actor's return to the action genre after having played neo-Nazi leader Dominick five years earlier in Becky.

As the Guns Up trailer shows, quitting the mob is easier said than done, as James' character's final job goes off the rails. "With the clock ticking, the ex-cop has one night to get his unsuspecting family out of the city before he gets snuffed out," reads the synopsis for the action movie. The trailer features James' Ray Hayes showcasing his lethal skills, which leads to his son questioning whether he's "John Wick," the beloved assassin from the franchise of the same name, played by Keanu Reeves. However, after Ray's wife, Audrey (Christina Ricci), takes care of a few mob men herself, their daughter remarks to her brother that their dad "married John Wick.

Universal Pictures has announced the nationwide theatrical re-release of Happy Gilmore, the beloved 1996 sports comedy starring Adam Sandler as a failed hockey player turned golf sensation. Audiences nationwide can experience this comedy classic on the big screen during special screenings on April 27 and April 30.

In Happy Gilmore, Sandler stars as the titular character, an aspiring hockey player with a powerful slapshot who can neither skate nor control his volatile temper. When the Internal Revenue Service repossesses his grandmother’s house, Happy resolves to earn enough money to settle her debts and reclaim her home.

After discovering his golf swing can drive balls an extraordinary 400 feet, Happy quickly becomes an unlikely star on the PGA tour, despite his poor putting skills and frequent explosive outbursts that antagonize his more traditional competitors.

Originally released in February 1996, Happy Gilmore was created on a modest $12 million budget and earned more than $40 million during its initial theatrical run.

Richard Chamberlain, a prolific actor known for his work on television series like Shōgun and Dr. Kildare, has died. He was 90. Chamberlain, whose notable projects also spanned across film and stage, passed away on Saturday, March 29, after suffering a stroke in Hawaii. His longtime partner, Martin Rabbett, delivered the sad news in a statement (via Variety):

"Our beloved Richard is with the angels now. He is free and soaring to those loved ones before us. How blessed were we to have known such an amazing and loving soul. Love never dies. And our love is under his wings lifting him to his next great adventure."

Apple and Mattel have found John Cena a co-star. Jessica Biel is set to star alongside the fan-favorite actor in the upcoming Matchbox movie.

According to Deadline, Biel is in talks to star opposite John Cena in Matchbox, a live-action feature film from Apple Original Films, Skydance, and Mattel Films. Biel has been acting in Hollywood since the early 1990s, although she didn't rise to prominence until 2003 when she starred in the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Her other film credits include the Marvel movie Blade: Trinity, the Jason Statham romantic drama London, the Adam Sandler comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, and the sci-fi remake Total Recall. On the small screen, she earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for The Sinner and is currently shooting the Prime Video thriller series The Better Sister.

Happy Gilmore director Dennis Dugan is returning in front of the camera for the Adam Sandler-led Netflix sequel, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Dugan, who is an executive producer on Happy Gilmore 2, will reprise his role of pro golf tour commissioner Doug Thompson that he originated in the 1996 comedy. Kyle Newacheck is helming the new film that is currently in production and has not yet announced a release date.

Sandler is back as lead character Happy Gilmore, introduced in the original as an unsuccessful hockey player who becomes an unlikely golf sensation, due to his mammoth drives. Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen and Ben Stiller are among the returning faces from the first movie, while new additions to the cast include Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley and Scott Mescudi, along with cameos from Travis Kelce and golfer John Daly.

The Rotten Tomatoes score for the new Adam Sandler movie Spaceman is revealed. Directed by John Renck, Spaceman tells a story about an astronaut named Jakub who becomes concerned with his life back on Earth half a year into his solo space mission, enlisting the help of an ancient creature he discovers within his ship. May 1 marks the series debut of “White House Plumbers,” the new limited series from “Veep” showrunner David Mandel that chronicles the Watergate break-in and fallout. That show airs on HBO and will stream on HBO Max. Then on May 4, the comedy “The Other Two” returns for its third season on HBO Max.

The sixth season of the animated series “Rick and Morty” will be available to stream on HBO Max starting on May 11, and in terms of library titles the “Men in Black” trilogy, the comedies “Step Brothers” and “Some Like It Hot” and Jonah Hill’s directorial debut “Mid90s” all come to HBO and HBO Max this month.

Wait a minute, you might be asking, isn’t HBO Max supposed to be “Max” now? How then, am I seeing a list of HBO Max new releases for May 2023? Well spotted, dear reader. Warner Bros. Discovery did indeed recently reveal that it would be rebranding its combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service as just Max. HBO Max will officially be replaced by Warner Bros. Discovery on May 23 with a new and improved service called Max. However, that doesn’t mean the service is scrimping on content until then. One of the biggest new releases of the month is the new limited series “White House Plumbers,” which will premiere on May 1. Starring Woody Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt and Justin Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy, the pair portray two real-life Watergate burglars and Nixon saboteurs who ended up destroying the very president they desperately wanted to serve.

Paramount Pictures has announced that Tracy Flick Can’t Win — a sequel to Alexander Payne’s cult classic 1999 comedy Election — is being made for Paramount+. Payne is returning as director, with the original film’s lead Reese Witherspoon to produce and reprise her starring role.

Based on Tom Perrotta’s 1998 novel of the same name, Election watches as the high school teacher Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick) finds himself on a collision course with the over-achieving student politician, Tracy Flick (Witherspoon). The satire drawing parallels between the worlds of high school and politics was Payne’s second feature on the heels of 1996’s Citizen Ruth and proved to be his breakthrough project, netting him and his collaborators three Independent Spirit Awards, a WGA Award and an Oscar nomination, with Witherspoon landing her first Golden Globe nomination.

The Election sequel is based on a follow-up novel by Perrotta, which was published by Scribner in June.

An upcoming episode of NCIS: Hawai’i will pay tribute to Yakira Chambers, story editor for the CBS drama who died suddenly last week at the age of 42.

Chambers’ family tells Deadline the preliminary cause of death has been attributed to acute asphyxia. She was with her mother outside a mall in Newport Beach, Calif. on Wednesday evening when she began suffering breathing difficulties and then collapsed.

Chambers was promoted to story editor for Season 2 of NCIS: Hawai’i after joining the show as a staff writer in the NCIS spinoff’s debut season, penning four episodes. She earned the staff writing position following her selection as a mentee in the highly competitive ViacomCBS Writers Mentoring Program in 2020-2021.

The Gotham Film & Media Institute will honor Adam Sandler with a Performer Tribute at its annual ceremony, presented by Josh and Benny Safdie, co-writers and directors of the actor’s 2019 crime thriller Uncut Gems.

Nomination for the 32nd annual event will be announced Tuesday at 9 am Pt/12 pm Et. Awards will be handed out Nov. 28 at Cipriani Wall Street in NYC for the first major ceremony of the fall season, which can draw early critical recognition and media attention to indie films and series.

Adam Sandler spent most of his time recently working on the movie “Hustle” which Netflix released on June 8. The movie is about a down on his luck basketball scout (Sandler) who catches a lucky break when he discovers a new young talent (Bo Cruz). He decides to bring the new talent back without the approval of his team, causing quite a stir between teammates.

Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.

Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.

It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.

Adam Sandler and Kevin James seem to be joined at the hip, and you rarely see one of them without the other following close behind. Sandler gave James his first role in a live-action movie when the latter was handed the glamorous part of Factory Worker in 2004’s 50 First Dates, back when he was still best known as the star of sitcom The King of Queens, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.

Over the last fifteen years, Sandler and James have co-starred in the three entries in the Hotel Transylvania franchise, two Grown Ups movies, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Zookeeper, Pixels and Sandy Wexler, while James showed up as himself for an uncredited cameo in You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.

We have just lost one of the most prolific character actresses of our time, as A Cinderella Story and Mom star Mary Pat Gleason has passed away. Her manager confirmed that the veteran performer died after a long battle with cancer on June 2, noting Gleason "was a fighter to the end." She was 70 years old.

Mary Pat Gleason was born on Feb. 23, 1950, in the Minnesota town of Lake City. Before her career in movies and television would begin in the '80s, Gleason was performing on stage in high school, notably starring in a Theater St. Paul production of Once Upon a Mattress. Decades later, she would return to the stage to play herself in an Off-Broadway production of Stopping Traffic at the Vineyard Theatre in New York.

Chances are, Gleason would be recognized by many of us from her many memorable one-off appearances on a wide variety of famous television programs over the years.

As Alison Brie is now the apparent frontrunner with fans to see play Jennifer Walters in Marvel's She-Hulk series, digital artist BossLogic has created some interesting fan art imagining the Glow star as the titular green superheroine. Recently, it had been reported that Marvel Studios was seeking an "Alison Brie-type" to play She-Hulk in the upcoming series, with Brie herself rumored to be at the top of their want list. Seeing the potential in the casting choice, many fans took well to the idea and gave their approval to Brie as She-Hulk all across social media.

Comedian and actor Kevin James has signed with UTA.

James most recently was seen in his Netflix stand-up special Never Don’t Give Up, which he also wrote and executive produced. On the television side, James is known for his starring role on Kevin Can Wait, which ran for two seasons on CBS, as well as hit comedy series The King of Queens, which he helmed for nine seasons. The long-running CBS comedy which successfully runs in syndication, was executive produced by James and earned him an Emmy nomination for his role.

On the film side, James has produced, co-written and starred in films including Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, Zookeeper and Here Comes The Boom. He made his feature debut in Hitch opposite Will Smith and has starred alongside Adam Sandler in Pixels, Grown Ups, Grown Ups 2 and I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry.

Analysis: One of the most troubled productions in Working Title's history, 'Hippie' began development back in 1998 but failed to get beyond script stage both in 1999 and in 2002 when "Elizabeth" helmer Shekhar Kapur was attached to direct. Filming finally got underway late 2007 with director Beeban Kidron in charge and shooting seemed to proceed without issue aside from feminist author Germaine Greer being vehemently unhappy about being depicted on film.

Maria Bello is in final negotiations to join the all-star comedy cast of Columbia's untitled film project being produced by Adam Sandler and Jack Giarraputo via their Happy Madison shingle.

The script, by Fred Wolf and Sandler, revolves around high school friends who reunite 30 years later. Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Salma Hayek and Maya Rudolph are part of the ensemble.

Bello will play James' wife.

The Martin Luther King Jr. weekend is proving bountiful for at least one shopping-mall misfit.

Sony's PG-rated comedy "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" -- starring Kevin James ("I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry") as a hapless security guard-turned-hero -- rung up an impressive $33.8 million in estimated opening grosses through Sunday. That put the Happy Madison production firmly atop the domestic boxoffice headed into the Monday holiday.

"It's a huge number, there's no doubt about it," Sony distribution president Rory Bruer said.

Clint Eastwood's "Gran Torino" from Warner Bros. was pacing second over its second weekend of wide release, following several sessions in limited distribution. Pumping another $22.2 million it its tank this weekend, "Torino" now hauls a $73.2 million cume.

The frame's three other wide openers also loaded up on three-day coin.

Lindsay Lohan and Eddie Murphy both scored multiple nominations for the 2008 Golden Raspberry Awards - honoring the worst movies and performances of the past year. The annual ceremony - known as the Razzies - is a spoof of the Oscars, with the honors handed out a day before the famed Academy Awards. Lohan's 2007 movie I Know Who Killed Me received a staggering nine nods in the nominations, which were announced on Monday - a day before the Oscar nominees are revealed. The film is tipped in several categories including Worst Picture, Worst Director for Chris Sivertson and Worst Actress for Lohan. The Mean Girls star is nominated in this category twice as she played two different parts in the film. Golden Raspberry founder John Wilson insists Lohan's thriller deserves to lead the way at the 2008 ceremony. He says, "Lohan's movie played like a cross between the torture tale Hostel and The Patty Duke Show. For worst actress, Lohan polled more heavily than any actor since Sofia Coppola in The Godfather Part III. I Know Who Killed Me is the most fabulously brainless movie since Showgirls, which Razzie voters picked as the worst movie of the 1990s. By the end of it, you still don't know what happened. Can I please have my hour and 50 minutes back?" Eddie Murphy's 2007 comedy Norbit received eight nominations, including two for Murphy himself for Worst Actor and Worst Actress - as he also played the wife of the main character in the film. Wilson adds about Murphy's performance, "We decided that each of his characters was so offensive that he deserved individual nominations." The other Worst Picture nominees were Bratz, Daddy Day Camp with Cuba Gooding Jr. and I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, which starred Adam Sandler.

Jessica Biel will star in the crime thriller Die a Little for United Artists.

FilmColony's Richard Gladstein is producing the project along with Biel, who optioned the book, and will co-produce with her producing partner Michelle Purple through their Iron Ocean Films shingle.

Marcia and Geoffrey Blake, who pitched the project to the actress, are penning the script. FilmColony's Neil Parris will executive produce.

Based on the Megan Abbott novel, "Die" tells the contemporary story of a schoolteacher and her brother, an LAPD detective whose life is turned upside down by a beautiful and mysterious woman (Biel).

Biel, who was last seen in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, is filming Powder Blue with Forrest Whitaker, Patrick Swayze and Ray Liotta. She is repped by CAA, Management 360 and attorney Karl Austen.

Gladstein, who recently produced The Nanny Diaries and the upcoming Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, is a two-time Academy Award-nominated producer for his work on Finding Neverland and The Cider House Rules. He is repped by Lichter, Grossman, Nichols & Adler.

TORONTO -- A delectable opening in Germany helped Disney/Pixar's Ratatouille finish as the No. 1 film internationally during the weekend with an estimated $19.7 million from 3,010 playdates in 30 markets.

The animated movie about a Parisian rat with a discerning palette cooked up an estimated $12.2 million on 700 screens to open No. 1 in Germany.

Ratatouille was "like a vacuum cleaner in Germany," Disney vp international sales and distribution David Kornblum said.

The film also bowed at No. 1 in Austria with an estimated $1.6 million from 125 dates and came out on top in German-speaking Switzerland with an estimated $905,000 from 125 screens. An opening in Denmark tickled another $865,000 from 50 screens.

Holdovers included Ratatouille earning another $760,000 in France on 592 screens to take its local cume to $59 million, and coming away with an estimated $650,000 on 129 screens in Greece during its second weekend to take its cume there to $1.6 million.

The international cume for Pixar's latest release stands at $247 million; it's at $450 million worldwide. That makes Ratatouille the 14th-biggest movie launched internationally by Disney and its 15th-biggest release of all time.

Next up for the Pixar concoction is a Friday opening in the U.K., Italy on Oct. 17, and Oct. 19 bows in China, Sweden, Poland and Finland.

In second place for the weekend was Universal International's I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, which grossed an estimated $6.7 million at 2,220 playdates in 38 markets to take its international cume to $48.2 million.

"Chuck & Larry" grabbed the No. 2 spot in Germany behind Ratatouille, earning $2.2 million at 475 dates, taking its 11-day total to $6.9 million.

TORONTO -- Two guys named Chuck and Larry bumped off The Bourne Ultimatum this weekend to come in first on the international circuit with an estimated $9.3 million boxoffice gross from 2,512 dates in 38 markets.

Debuting in seven markets, Universal International's I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry earned an estimated $3.1 million on 490 screens in Germany. The comedy, starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James as straight firefighters who pretend to be gay to receive domestic partner benefits, also recorded No. 1 openings in Austria, with $600,000 at 85 dates; Sweden, with an estimated $225,000 at 42 dates; Mexico, with $1.2 million from 300 screens; and Malaysia, where it earned $150,000 at 30 dates.

That performance was enough to push last week's top overseas film, Universal International's Bourne, into second on the international heap with an estimated $8.7 million from 4000 screens in 42 territories.

In its seventh weekend out, the Matt Damon spy thriller raised its international total to $161.7 million by coming in at No. 2 in France with an estimated $1.5 million at 450 dates, just behind the local film 99 Francs.

The action sequel had an estimated gross of $1.2 million in its fourth weekend in Germany at 596 dates, for a $12.6 million cume. The U.K. contributed another $740,000 at 224 dates for a 34-day total of $15.8 million.
