Pilot

Sabrina is no ordinary teenager, she's a teenage witch - if the title of this show didn't give that away then this pilot certainly makes it clear.

The early years of this show were by far the best, with the trio of Sabrina and her aunts being more than enough to keep the laughs coming.

I thought this pilot episode had enough strong moments to show that the series has the potential to do well, largely in part down to the fact that in Melissa Joan Hart it had a natural comedienne who could carry it.

This episode does a great job of introducing the characters and their dynamics. We get a clear sense of Hilda and Zelda's roles as Sabrina's mentors, along with their distinct personalities. We also see how Harvey and Jenny meet Sabrina and become friends. While the origin of Libby's hatred toward Sabrina isn't fully explained yet, if she stays, I hope she's set up to be the villain of the season.

Some of the jokes don't quite land, and the pacing feels a bit slow, almost as if the show is finding its rhythm and figuring out where the humor fits best.

Still, it's a solid start. It may not be a perfect episode, and the plot isn't the most exciting, but the silly jokes and the silly magic are already alive, giving the episode a charming vibe. The goofy universe of Sabrina is being built. Looking forward to seeing the next episode.
